James awoke early and took his shower and all that before it was time to meet up with Robin. Today was going to be fun, except for the fact that he was going to see Remus with Lily, but he just told himself that they were just friends.
He picked up a brush then set it down, realizing that brushing his hair wasn't going to do anything, because his hair would be messy anyway. James just ran a hand through it and left the common room to meet Robin. Maybe, he would ask her advice about Lily. She was a girl after all. Possibly she could help him out, well, James hoped she could.

Sirius walked into the bathroom and saw James standing in front of the mirror, trying to do something with his hair. He laughed and shook his head. "Dude, your hair is hopeless," he said. "You may as well just give up now. If Robin saw your hair like that before and still agreed to go out with you, you better just leave well enough alone."

James sighed. "My hair always goes back to this," he said pointing to his hair. "I even cut it shorter last night, but it's back to length it's always been!" He turned towards Sirius with a grin. "Plus you know I don't really care about my hair, I was just going to see if it could be brushed now, but obviously it can't. Are you ready for Hogsmeade?"

Sirius shook his head. "I've never seen anyone with such difficult hair," he said. "You can't even cut it... that's just crazy." He picked up a brush and ran it through his long hair. "I gotta say, though, I sorta wish my hair had that power. A few years ago, my mum thought my hair was too long, even though it was shorter than it is now, so she cut it all off and shaved it. I looked like a muggle in the military or something. It would've been nice to be able to grow it back right away."
As he stared into the mirror, he found himself having a hard time looking at his own reflection. He kept thinking about the kiss with Amy in the library the day before. Here he was, about to spend the day with Kris, and he was thinking of another girl. He was scum.
Slowly, he turned to James. Maybe, if he shared his guilt with his best friend, it would help him to get it off his mind. "Hey, James," he said. "I... I gotta tell you something. But you gotta promise not to tell Remus. Can you do that?"

James removed his interest in the sink to Sirius. He knew that voice. It sounded like Sirius had been caught doing something, or something like that. "You know that you can tell me anything Sirius. I promise that I won't tell Remus. It'll just stay between us. What happened?"

Sirius took a breath and opened his mouth. "I.... I did something... really stupid. I knew better, but I just... I couldn't help myself." He hung his head in shame. "Remember that girl in class the other day? Amy?"

"Uh-oh," said James going serious. "Something stupid? Don't tell me you got Kris mad at you or something, because I'm surprised she hasn't hit you already." He crossed his arms and his eyes grew wide at the mention of Amy's name. "Yeah. I remember her. Sirius, what did you do?"

Sirius took a deep breath. He felt bad even saying the words, and wished he had controlled himself better. When he had started talking to Amy in the library, he'd intended to just apologize to her and then leave. Why had he kissed her? What had he been thinking?
"See... I kinda..." he began to say, just before the door swung open.
(wait for Remus to post)

Remus walked into the room just then. He was in a fairly good mood, thinking about the day ahead. He was planning to help James out by convincing Lily to give James a chance. He hoped he could convince her, because he knew how much James liked Lily.
"Hey, guys," he said, then stopped, realizing Sirius was in the middle of talking. "What's going on?"

"Er... never mind," Sirius said, seeing Remus. He couldn't admit what he'd done in front of Remus... if he knew that Sirius had cheated on Kris, he'd flip out. He really didn't want to hurt Kris or Remus... still, he didn't know why he had done what he did. He'd have to talk to James later... but Sirius wondered whether he would be able to look Kris in the eye, knowing what he'd done.
"It was nothing important," he said, keeping his voice light. "Just something stupid."

James waited patiently as Sirius tried to tell him what he had done. He knew that it had to be on a big scale seeing that he shut up about it whenever Remus entered. James turned towards Remus. "Hey," he replied. He turned back to Sirius and noticed that Sirius wasn't going to finish it. Making a mental note of trying to talk to Sirius later he grinned. "Who did you hex this time? Please don't tell me it went wrong," he said trying to stop any suspicions from rising.

Sirius gave a casual laugh. "Oh, just some Slytherin," he said. "I don't even know his name. But it didn't work. I can't believe I got the spell wrong..." He looked at James thankfully, hoping they would have a chance to talk later.

"Of course it was some Slytherin. Your usual target," replied James with laughter. "And that my friend is why you practice the hex first on something so that way when you use it, you are continuing your practicing, but you are better with the spell first." James shook his head and gave Sirius a quick glance of 'let's-talk-later' before Remus could see.

Sirius shook his head and grinned sheepishly. "Yeah, yeah, you're right. That'll teach me not to use spells I read in books without testing them first." He turned to look at Remus. "So, what's up, Remus? You ready for Hogsmeade?"

Remus glanced from James to Sirius and back again. He felt like there was something wrong; something that he was missing. Were they keeping something from him? As always, he began to panic, wondering if, somehow, they had figured out his secret.
Biting his lower lip, he turned to look in the mirror and run a brush through his hair. He was just being paranoid... right? "Um, yeah," he said nervously. "Ready as I'll ever be, I guess. Do I look OK?"

James noted Remus' nervousness. "Remus, don't be nervous around us. There's nothing to be worried about." He gave Remus a quick glance over. James reached up and ruffled Remus' hair a bit. "There, now you're ready. You're hair looked bland with it just being combed like that. You look fine. Don't worry about it."

Remus laughed and shook his head. "But I like my hair combed straight!" he protested, and began to smooth it out again. He looked over at James seriously. "Listen, I'm gonna try to talk to Lily for you. Get her to maybe think about giving you a chance. I know how much you like her, and I still don't understand why she asked me to go to Hogsmeade with her, but I know you can't be crazy about the whole thing. So I'll try and talk you up to her, OK? Maybe I can get her to see you're not such a bad guy."

James laughed as Remus started to smooth out his hair. His face brightened as Remus mentioned that he was going to talk to Lily for him. Of course, that would be awesome, but, James started to feel bad a bit. He didn't want Remus to do that on his 'date' with Lily. He wanted him to have fun. "Remus, you don't have to do that. And, no, I'm not crazy about the whole idea. I admit I was at first, but the more in sunk in, it's cool. She asked you to go with her, so have fun Remus! I honestly want you to just enjoy yourself today. Alright? Promise me that you'll have fun, because if you don't, I'll be upset with you."

"I'll have fun," Remus said. "But I don't see any reason why I can't try to help you at the same time, that's all. I'll just tell Lily what a great guy you are... but I won't push it too hard. Just enough that maybe she'll be willing to give you a chance."
He turned away from the mirror then and looked over at Sirius. "And Sirius, I want you to have a good time, but not too much. It's my sister we're talking about here." He gave him a stern look. "You'd better just keep your hands to yourself, OK?"

Sirius laughed and gave Remus a pat on the back. "Yeah, yeah, sure," he said. "You know me. I'm perfectly trustworthy. I'd never take advantage of an innocent girl."
As he said the words, the smile slipped from his lips. The lie felt heavy on his tongue. He'd already taken advantage of an innocent girl, when he'd kissed Amy in the library. He already had failed to keep his hands to himself. And if Kris found out, she'd be devastated. The last thing he wanted to do was hurt her... but why did he keep thinking about Amy?
He had to stop this. He couldn't keep thinking about these things. Forcing the thoughts to the back of his mind, he pasted on a typical Sirius grin. "Come on, what are we doing standing around here, anyway? Let's go meet the girls!"
He turned and headed for the door.
