Sirius sighed heavily. "I know, I know. I'm scum," he said, kicking the ground. "It was with Amy. I ran into in the library the other day, and I just went over to apologize to her for leading her on and putting her between me and Kris. But... I don't know what happened... all of a sudden, I was kissing her." He hung his head, feeling guilt wash over him. "I shouldn't have done it... but I... I kinda liked it. And now I can't stop thinking about her, and we just ran into her in Zonko's..."
He looked up at James worriedly. "What am I gonna do, James?"

James listened intently as Sirius spoke. He ran a hand through his hair in thought. "I'm not sure what to tell you Sirius. I mean, it appears you like Amy, but yet you also like Kris and you're in a relationship with her." James was trying to make sense of it himself. In his mind, Sirius and Kris didn't really seem to have what 'couples' have, but then again that was just James' opinion. He gave a sigh. "I would say avoid Amy, but you and I both know that that's going to be impossible. She's always there. I don't know. Of course you can't say anything to Kris, and we will not let Remus know, because he will kill you. I guess it all boils down to who do you like more? What does your heart tell you? What feels right? But, you have to keep in mind you can't go and do that again with Amy."

Sirius sighed, his shoulders slumped. "I don't know who I like more. I mean, I like Kris. I love her. But she drives me crazy. She seems so... depressed these days. It's hard just to get her to loosen up and have some fun. And the other day she was crying for no reason, saying something about wanting me to know the truth or something... it was weird. She's keeping something from me, and whatever it is, it's tearing us apart, because she can't deal with it. And Amy.... she's fun, you know? She can crack jokes with me and stuff." He gave another nervous look around. I know I have to tell her that nothing can happen, as if she didn't already know... but the thing is, I don't want to. But I also don't want to hurt Kris."

James thought for a moment. "You know you can't have two girls. That's not fair for either of them. If you want, I can talk to Amy. I'm not going to tell her anything mean, I promise. I'd just tell her for you that nothing can happen, but it's OK to be friends. I'm sure she knows that already, and Amy doesn't seem like the type to go and break up a relationship." He ran a hand through his hair again. "Maybe Kris will tell you soon. I mean, if she sees what she's keeping from you is tearing you a part, I'm sure that she'll tell you. I don't think she wants to lose you over something she's keeping from you."

All summer, all I could think about was seeing her again, and we're back together for only a few weeks, and she's different, and I can't keep my mind off of another girl... What is wrong with me, James? Ever since I've known you, you've only had eyes for one girl. How do you do that?"

"I've always liked Lily. Always. Ever since I first saw her," replied James. "Since then I haven't been able to stop looking at her or keep trying to get her to notice me. I guess I don't really look at other girls is because I really and truly like her." He gave a shrug. "To me, no other girl looks like she does and I won't settle for less. I guess that's the reason. You on the other hand have to ask yourself this question. Do you really and truly like Kris? Are you willing to settle for more or less? Does Amy look better to you than Kris does? Who do you feel more strongly for? Until you can answer any of those questions, I don't think you'll know what's wrong with you, other than you are dating your best friend's sister and just so happen to like another girl."

Sirius groaned. "Yeah, I know. I just... I don't know." He shook his head. "I guess I got a lot to think about. I just wish it wasn't so hard." He shrugged and looked at James. "Anyway, thanks for listening. I think I really just needed to get that out of my system. Seeing Amy at Zonko's really messed me up..."
Sticking his hands in his pockets, he turned to go, then stopped and turned back around. "And, James? Asking your date for advice about another girl? Not cool, man. Totally pathetic, even." He laughed slightly. "You're gonna make a fool of yourself over her, you know you are."

"Well. My 'date' just so happens to be a friend! Plus she's a girl, so that makes it better. Who else to go to when I need advice about how girls work? I mean seriously Sirius. Am I supposed to go up to Lily and ask for her advice on how I should ask her out?" James gave a shake of his head. "And you better not mention me asking advice from Robin about Lily. Besides. I don't care if I do make a fool of my myself over her. It hasn't stopped me before." He gave Sirius a grin. He knew that Sirius would probably bring it up again some how or another.

Sirius grinned. "Dude, you're really pathetic. I bet you could have any other girl in this school, I don't know why you're knocking yourself out over the one that doesn't want you." He gave James a little punch on the arm. "But then, that's just how you are. Good luck with it, I guess."
He paused to smoothe out his hair, then said, "Well, I better get back to Kris before she starts freaking out. Thanks for listening, anyway. Remember... Remus can't know about this, OK?"

"Of course Remus is not going to know. I'm not going to see Remus kill you," said James. "I maybe 'pathetic' as you put it, but I'm not stupid." He gave Sirius a grin. "You know that I'm always here to listen. After all what are friends for? Let's get back to the girls before someone goes crazy."
James walked back over to the girls with Sirius. He gave Robin a grin. "Are you ready to go to our next stop?"

Sirius walked up to Kris and smiled. He couldn't quite look her in the eye. Taking her hand, he said, "Sorry about that. I just needed to talk to James about a prank we're planning. I didn't want you to hear too much about it, in case we got in trouble or anything." It almost scared him how easily he lied to her.
"So, you ready to get some candy?"

Kris kept her eyes on the ground but she nodded, she thought that maybe chocolate would help her feel better and go back to being happy. It wasn't like they planned on Amy being there, she kept telling herself that nothing was going on between them. She was just being paranoid, right?

"OK, cool," Sirius said, bringing her hand to his lips and kissing it. He tried to ignore the stabs of guilt that seemed to be poking at him as he did. Liar, liar... Maybe he was more like his family than he had thought. He led Kris into the candy store and looked around. "So what kind of candy do you want?" he asked.

"Just some chocolate." Kris said without looking around, to women chocolate was comfort food. She kinda hoped Sirius didn't think she was onto him, but on some parts she hoped he did.

"Just a chocolate bar." Kris said looking at the frogs and remembering her first one had jumped, creeped her out. She bit her lower lip and glanced at him, wondering if he had lied about what he spoke to James. She pushed that thought from her mind.

"OK," Sirius said, grabbing a handful of chocolate bars for her. He also grabbed a few chocolate frogs for himself, since he liked collecting the cards. "Is that really all you want?" he asked. He felt like he was rushing her or something. "We could get some Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans... or maybe some fizzing whizzbees..."

She had tried to talk to the girl, but she had been very quiet. Robin thought she seemed upset about something, and wondered what Sirius would have needed to talk to James about that couldn't wait. Deciding that none of this was any of her business, she looked back at James. "Yeah, sure. Where do you want to go?" |
