Athena looked at Coda carefully. "I'm not sure just how old you are," she said thoughtfully. "You look about 13, but you could be older. Since you didn't always get a lot of healthy food, you might not have grown very much."
The dress was now fastened, and Athena stepped back to admire the fit. "It looks like it fits you perfectly," she said. "And the color looks really good on you. It brings out your eyes. What do you think? Are you comfortable?"

"I like it and it does feel good." Coda smiled. "I'll make sure not to wear it on the next full moon." She hugged Athena, she loved being hugged herself so she thought Athena loved it as much.

"Good!" Athena said happily. She was taken by surprise, but pleasantly, when Kris threw her arms around her in a hug. She hugged her back, and kissed her on the forehead. "You're such a sweetie," she said affectionately. After a few minutes, she pulled back slightly and nodded toward the other dresses hanging by the door. "Do you want to try these other dresses?" she asked.

Coda shook her head, "I've been wearing dresses for as long as I can remember... I want to try other things." She looked down at the dress, she liked dresses but they were hard to play in.

Athena nodded. "OK, that sounds good," she said, pleased to see that Coda was thinking practically. "Why don't you get dressed in your old dress, and we'll go back out and see what else we can find?" She unzipped the zipper in the back of the dress for her and began to help Coda out of the dress.

Once Coda was out of the new dress she slipped on the old dress. "What other kinds of clothes do humans wear?"

Athena took the new dress and hung it back up on the hanger. 'Well, let's see... there's lots of choices. "There are pants, and blue jeans, like what I'm wearing. Most wizards like to wear robes, but you don't have to, especially since you're not a witch. When it's warm, some people wear shorts... they're like pants, but they're shorter. There are also skirts, which are like dresses, but you can pair them with any kind of top that you like."

"What would be the best to play in?" Coda asked looking up at her, "I like playing and planting flowers." She missed her little flowers she had outside the cave, she even had a few in the cave.

"Hmmm," Athena said thoughtfully as they headed back out into the store. "You should probably have a pair of jeans. I just hope you don't find them too uncomfortable, because they can be kind of stiff sometimes. We should probably get you some sweat pants, too. Those are very comfortable, but not something you can wear in public very often. And planting a garden sounds like a great idea. I've been wanting to do that since we moved in, and I'd love you have your help."

Coda smiled, "I'd love to help." She started to feel really happy, she wished she could show her the garden she used to have. "I love feeling dirt in my hands, me and Tis would just dig for fun, sometimes to see who was the fastest to make the deepest holes." She smiled at the memory.

"That sounds wonderful," Athena said. "I'm glad you had such good times with them, and I hope you'll like it here just as much as you liked it there. If you want, after we've picked out a few more outfits for you, we could go to the botanical gardens--that's where they have a big garden with lots of plants and flowers. You could look at what they have, and we can buy stuff at the end."

"Ok." Coda said her smile getting bigger. "I already like it being with you and Daddy." She liked saying that, she never had anyone to call that before. She just wished she could remember how old she was, she didn't even know when she was born.

Athena gave her a quick squeeze, then began to look for some more clothes for Coda to try. She selected a pair of jeans, a pair of stretch pants and some sweat pants, then she began to look for tops. Holding up a soft green shirt with yellow flowers, she said, "What do you think of this one?"

"Good!" Athena said, quickly picking out a shirt in her size. She walked around, looking at some of the other shirts. She found a nice blue one with butterflies on it, and a white one with pink flowers. The last one, however, was her favorite. It was brown, and had the face of a wolf on it. "What do you think?" she asked, holding it up.

Coda smiled widely, "It looks just like Tis!" She jumped up and down excited, she didn't notice the people start to stare. She was happy that humans didn't hate wolves, but she knew they would kill one if they saw one in the wild.

Athena smiled to see how excited Coda was. But as she noticed another woman, with a fat, red-faced little boy beside her, staring at them with a strange expression on her face, Athena narrowed her eyes at them. She couldn't abide such rudeness. The woman turned away then, dragging the boy along with her.
Looking back at Coda, who she hoped hadn't noticed the whole exchange, she bent down so that she was eye level with her. "What do you say we go try these on now?"

Coda hadn't noticed anything as she was amazed over how much the wolf picture looked like Tis. She nodded at Athena's question, she was still smiling. She hoped she liked wearing the pants so she could wear the shirts.
(Is this before or after Nat started Hogwarts?)

(This is an older thread, so I'm thinking it's before. This should be from the summer.)
Athena led Coda back into the dressing room and helped her get out of her dress. "To put on the pants, it might be better for you to sit down on the bench," she suggested. "You need to put them on one leg at a time, and if you're standing up, you might lose your balance."

Coda nodded then sat on the bench, she took a pair from Athena then started to put them on. "Am I doing it right?" She asked as she put the other leg in the other place, she bit her lower lip. She was worried she was putting them on wrong so she hoped she was doing it right.
