Athena held Coda's hand as they walked toward the restaurant. She was feeling happier than she had in a while, now that she knew Coda would be her adopted daughter. She was still a little worried about Alastor's illness, but she hoped that everything would be OK. She hadn't told Coda about Alastor being sick, and she wondered how she would go about doing it.
When they reached the restaurant, Athena opened the door. "OK, here we are," she said brightly. "Where do you want to sit? By the windows, or in the back?"

"I-in the back." Coda held tightly onto Athena's hand. She was nervouse about being around so many people, she felt like when she saw all those kids at the school. She looked up at her, "Mommy? Wh-why didn't Daddy look for me too?" She thought it was strange that only Athena would look for her.

"OK," Athena said, leading her towards the back. She found a table and helped Coda get into her seat, then sat down across from her. Now she would have to tell Coda about Alastor. She took a deep breath. "Honey, your daddy isn't feeling well," she said. "He's going to have to stay in bed for a while. But the doctor is taking care of him, and he's going to be fine."

Coda looked down at the table, Alastor was sick and she had ran away. "When did he get sick?"

Athena gave her a brave smile. "It's OK, it just happened. It started last night, after you left. I'm sure he's going to be fine." She patted Coda's hand.

"Does he know I ran away?" Coda asked hoping she wasn't the reason for his illness.

"No, he doesn't," Athena said. "He started to get sick before I even knew, and then I just didn't want to worry him anymore. I was hoping that I would find you before I had to tell him. And I did." She gave Coda's hand a little squeeze. "He's going to be fine, I'm sure of it. Please don't worry. The doctor is with him now." In truth, she was a little worried, because of how quickly the illness seemed to have spread. In fact, she was actually a little worried about Coda being exposed to it, in case it turned out to be dragon pox.

"I don't want him to know about it." Coda whispered looking at the table. "So.. um.. what kind of food do they have here?"

Athena nodded. "Don't worry, I won't tell him. He doesn't need to know... all that matters is that you're back now." She looked down at the menu, remembering that Coda not only couldn't read, but she probably didn't know what sandwiches or soup were. "Well, they have something called sandwiches," she explained. "They have meat and other things on bread and you can pick them up and eat them with your hands. Would you like something like that?"

Coda nodded. "Yeah, I would, it'll kinda remind me of when I was with the wolves." She said looking at the table so she wouldn't see the strange looks people were giving her.

Athena nodded at her. "OK, that sounds good, then. I don't suppose you know what kind of meat you like? Or are you OK to just try anything?"

"I'll try anything." Coda told her. "Do you like the dress I have on?" She asked trying to make conversation.

"OK, then," Athena said. She looked at Coda's dress, which was a patched-up hand-me-down. Still, it fit her well and the blue floral pattern matched the color of her eyes. "It looks very nice," she said. "Did you get that from someone in Zander's pack?"

"Yes, I lost the clothes I had on before I changed and had to put on one of my dressed I had when I lived with the wolves, it was too small so she gave me this one when we got to her house. She had to make it shorter though." Coda told her smiling a bit. She did wonder where her pack was.

"That was nice of her," Athena said. "You'll have to thank her for it when you see them again, OK?" Just then the waitress came to the table, and Athena looked up at her. "She'll have a ham and cheese sandwich, and I'll have the roast beef sandwich," she said. "And we'll both have water to drink." The waitress nodded and wrote down the order, then hurried into the kitchen. Athena looked back at Coda. "We'll have to get you some shoes, too," she said.

"I already thanked them for saving me and I thanked her twice for the dress." Coda said looking up at Athena. "Yeah, I'd like to have shoes."

"Good," Athena said. "Next time we see the pack, you'll have to introduce me to some of them, if you remember their names. As for the shoes, we can go to a store and you can see what you feel most comfortable with. Sound good?"

"Yeah." Coda said. She looked at the table thinking, trying to figure out where her wolf family would be. No matter how much she thought on it though she could never come up with anything.

"What else do you think you might want to do?" Athena asked. "Did you want to work on learning to read? Or maybe you would like some toys? When I was a young girl, I used to love playing with dolls."

Coda looked up at her. "Dolls? Toys?" She had never heard of these words before, she had only played with the wolves.
