"Wouldn't that be fun? It seems like the only things kids do for fun here is go to Quidditch games and Hogsmeade weekends," and now they didn't even have those this year, due to the tournament and the hogsmeade attack.
"And getting all dolled up is fun too," she added, smiling. She stepped back and spun around under Jeremy's arm before stepping close to him again and leaning her head against his shoulder.

Nick nodded, smiling still. "You're right, let's have fun." he grinned and stepped back, quickly spinning Roxanna around before pulling her back close to him. He cluckled lightly. "Okay, so I learned a thing or two from Ash," Nick laughed.
He on the other hand, loved the chances to go home for the holiday. He wasn't sure why. Being the only boy between a teenage girl and a 9 year old girl wasn't entirely ideal. But he loved his family. "You know," Nick said, idea forming in his head. "It can get lonely here, during the holidays. You're welcome to come visit my family whenever you'd like." He knoew his family wouldn't mind. His mother loved company.

"I would never do anything that would intentionally hurt you Jackie," he said. There was no way that he would mean to hurt her. It nearly broke him in two when he realized that he had hurt her when he didn't do anything. She was his best friend and the only person he had ever told everything too. "Plus, we have a longer history together. I'll always choose you." Dean stopped where he was, not minding if anyone was watching, and pulled Jackie close to him. Without a word he leaned down and kissed her. Jackie sighed. "I know. I know all of that, I just... wasn't thinking. It took me so long to realize just how much you meant to me, and I didn't want to lose that-" He cut her off from whatever she would have said next by kissing her, and she felt a rush go up her spine. They hadn't kissed very much, especially with the whole Zoe fiasco, and it was all so new to her still. It thrilled her, and she kissed him back. When the kiss ended, she smiled. "You can do that again." Taking a breath, she frowned again and the next words came in a rush, like she was desperate to tell him. "I'm sorry I wouldn't listen to you before. I was just scared of what I would hear."

Nolan smirked. "Yeah, they're cute." And Jeremy was going to hear all about it later. Nolan wouldn't let him go to sleep tonight without hearing a few well chosen jabs about just how cute he and Alenna were. He waved his hand towards Julia. "I'm always ready for anything," he said, giving her a smile. "Are you ready, milady?" he asked with a flair, holding his arm out for her to take. Julia laughed, loving how goofy Nolan could be. She smiled and took his arm. "Ready when you are." She replied, and the two made their way past other anxiously waiting Gryffindors toward the ball. Julia waved to people she knew, being poilte and smiling. When they reached the ball, Julia looked around excitedly at all the decorations. "Wow this place lookes good." She said smiling. Nolan watched his best friend for a moment (well, best friend besides Jeremy, of course). Her eyes seemed to light up when she looked around, catching the decorations of the Great Hall. Yeah, he saw her as his best friend, but this was also Nolan. He could respect that she was very pretty tonight, and always, and he tugged on her hand to catch her attention again. "You look great," he told her in response to her comment on the room, and he spun her around slowly in front of him. "Whatddya say we go find Jeremy and Alena?"

Thane rushed down to the ground floor. Leo had left him in his shoeless state a while ago, and Thane was almost frantic now. Had the champions already gone in? Was Regina forced to walk in alone because he was too absent minded? He nearly collided with a couple as he rounded the corner towards the staircase, and he called out an apology over his shoulder. And then... there she was. She was alone outside the ballroom, and obviously waiting for someone... him. He felt terrible, and by the time he presented himself in front of her, he was a little out of breath, both from the run and how stunning she looked. "Regina," he said. "I'm so sorry. Am I too late? I couldn't find my shoes, anywhere, and you look amazing." Regina let out a quite giggle whenever Thane appeared. His words seemed rush and she couldn't help it. "No, you're not late and thank you." A light blush rose on her cheeks. She reached up and fixed the jacket he was wearing and sorted out his hair. "You look quite nice yourself. And you know if you would have called for me, I would have helped you find them, that wouldn't have been a problem." Her worries about dancing were almost gone. It was the fact she had to dance in front of other people that worried her. "But I'm glad you're here." Thane blushed as she fixed his hair and his dress robes. Merlin, he wished he could be less of a mess, just for her, for one night. His own hands went to his hair to smooth it down after she did. "It's okay. Leo helped me find them, and... you know. It's not like I'm not used to this. I just feel bad that I made you wait for so long. Did you want to go in now, or....?" He trailed, unsure what other options to offer her, but her final words made him grin like a little boy. "I'm glad you're here, too. And you really do look very pretty."

"It's okay, you don't have to apologize for it. I got here a little early because staying in the dorm wasn't helping the nervousness any." Regina smiled. She didn't mind waiting on Thane to come down and she didn't think that he looked like a mess. The only reason she straightened his jacket was simply to attempt to calm down by focusing her mind on something else.
"I think we're supposed to be waiting on someone telling us to go in. I was just waiting around the see what everyone else was going to do." There were no words to describe how nervous she was. She didn't want to trip and fall and embarrass Thane in anyway. Embarrassing herself wasn't really anything new, but even if he said that she wouldn't, she didn't want to let him down.
Regina gave a quiet laugh. "Thank you. I was terrified of tripping on the stairs coming down." She gave a sheepish look.

"You don't have to be scared anymore Jackie." Dean rested his hand on her cheek and smiled. He leaned down and kissed her again. Reaching for her hand, he started to lead her toward the stairs so they could begin making their way to the seventh floor.
"And I'm hoping that things are going back to normal, or whatever normalcy it was before." He smiled as he looked back to her and teasingly said, "By the way, I'm letting you know now, you're going to be mine for the next few days."

"I'm okay with that," Jackie replied. "I haven't been yours in a while... I rather think I'll like the attention."
She followed him up the numerous staircases to the seventh floor. It was the floor of her common room, anyway, but Dean with have to go back down a couple flights to get to Ravenclaw when he decided to go to bed.
Just before they reached the room of requirement, she stopped and squeezed his hand. "Can we just stay here tonight? I just want you to hold me."

"I sure hope you'd like the attention," he said with a wink. Dean knew that he was going to try to make it up to her. He wanted Jackie to know without a doubt that he would always chose her. She was his best friend and he had always cared about her even if he didn't show it openly.
Feeling the squeeze of her hand, Dean stopped and looked down at her. Her question made his face feel warm but he nodded. "Yes, we can just stay here tonight. We haven't anything to do tomorrow, we can just stay here all day tomorrow too if you want." He looked at her through the hair that fell in his eyes.

Her question was asked innocently. She missed him, missed being held by him and having do outrageous things with her just to make sure she'd be safe. But who knew where the night would end up? She just wanted to be with him, and whatever came as a result was fine by her.
"We can. I've just been surrounded by so many people... it would be nice to just hide away with you. And you did promise that I was going to be yours for the next couple of days, so here's a good way to start with that, right? You make the room," she added, nodding her head towards the wall where the door would appear for the room of requirement.

The real truth, the thing he didn't say to her, was that she was the only reason he had bothered to come to the ball at all. He hadn't even really expected to be able to talk with her, let alone dance with her or leave with her; he had just hoped to be able to see her and admire her from afar as she danced with other boys in all her finery. Instead, here they were, and he almost had to pinch himself to be sure that he wasn't dreaming. Now he was silently wondering to himself if she would have actually said yes if he had been able to get up the courage to ask her to go with him. "The ball did seem kind of weird. Sort of... fake, you know? Like everyone's trying to pretend they're something that they're not. I like this better." He took the plate from her and smiled, then led her over to the little table to sit down. "It depends on my mood," he replied. "Sometimes, you just don't want anything to get in the way of the chocolate. But most of the time, I like them with nuts. They add that extra little bit of intrigue, you know? Although, I think the best kind is with little chocolate chips mixed in...." "Ah, no way. You're way off with the nuts. They have absolutely no mystery to them. I think they kind of take charge of the brownie and leave no room for questions. It's like a hostage situation." Bobby smiled at Neil. He seemed at ease now, and it pleased her. She liked when she could talk to him on an even level, rather than taking things easy on him. "I like when they have the chocolate chips in them too! That's your intrigue." She took a bite of her cheesecake then, sort of reveling in the way it tasted. "It's so much nicer in here Quieter."

Neil laughed. Now that he was away from everyone else, he was infinitely more relaxed. What he liked best about Bobby was that he could really be himself around her. She didn't judge, and she didn't look at him like he was just some nerdy kid. Somehow, when it was just the two of them, he felt more sure of himself, and didn't trip over his words.
"OK, fair enough," he said. "But you know, I don't like when there's frosting on the top. It's just... too much chocolate, you know? It's like hitting you over the head with all the chocolate."
He took a bite of his brownie and nodded approvingly. "Oh, yeah... this is perfect. And it does have chocolate chips in it."
He turned to look at her then, and noticed that she also seemed much more relaxed in here, away from all the noise and the people. He couldn't quite understand it. Unlike him, Bobby was usually good with crowds. She should have stayed at that ball, dancing the night away with all her many friends. It was almost inconceivable that she should leave the ball before Callie, and yet, here she was.
"So how come you wanted to leave?" he asked.

"Right now I seem to be here with you." he said with more charm than anyone would have thought him capable of. Truth was Caleb could in all likelihood seduce the pants off of almost anyone were he to give it an honest shot, the fact that his studies consumed him was the main deterrent, that and he had never found anyone he truly cared to seduce. Apparently that was about to change. It wasn't a conscious decision he made, but rather something inside him was bursting and he was just trying to keep up with it. "Besides, Sam would rather die than have her big brother on her arm all night," that was a lie he knew, Sam wasn't like that, still it was true of most teenage girls, " and Christine already has her big brother on her arm." he explained, "I'm a chaparone." that made him feel suddenly older and inwardly he frowned. "Well, if Christine's with her brother, and I can't imagine Sam not wanting the same thing." Adele smiled as the next thought entered her mind. "And given the fact that you're a chaperon, I'm betting she doesn't have a date." Caleb certainly seemed like the over protective big brother... she had those, once in her life. The thought made her frown, and she took a deep breath, looking around the room. It would be her next, one day. "Does being a chaperon mean you're not allowed to dance with any of your students?" She surprised even herself by saying it, as often as she tried to push him away from helping her. But she was here, and what could one dance hurt?

It was almost inconceivable that she should leave the ball before Callie, and yet, here she was. "So how come you wanted to leave?" he asked. Bobby shrugged at his question. What was she supposed to tell him? That Jeremy said only her sisters were out of anyone's league, but that she was easy to access? It was a girly thing to be upset about, and she knew that he probably wouldn't be able to relate to her. Or care. So she just took a breath and replied, "I'm just not in the mood tonight. I wish it was any other night, because normally, I would love a dance like this. I just... I don't know." She turned an easier smile on him, setting her fork on the edge of her plate. "Why did you want to leave with me?"

Because the only reason I went to the ball at all was to have a chance to dance with you. That was his true answer, which he knew he could never tell her. Because no matter what Jeremy might have thought, Neil believed that Bobby was most definitely out of his league. She was so far above him, that if his league were to explode, she wouldn't even hear the sound for three days.
And yet, here he was, sitting with her. It was so unbelieveable that Neil was half-tempted to pinch himself to make sure he wasn't dreaming.
"I'm not really very social," he replied, which was true. "You're practically the only friend I had there at the ball. And besides, I couldn't pass up the chance to leave the ball with the prettiest girl in the room."
He looked down at that, hiding his face as he pretended to study his brownie. It was actually almost a suave thing to say, the kind of thing Rabastan Lestrange would say. Except that Neil wasn't just saying what he thought she wanted to hear. He truly meant it.

She deffinatly was sure that going with her friends, especially her best friend Nolan, was much better than running around the school, trying to find someone to be your date and then fussing about what to say and how to act all night. Tonight, she was just Ju. Ju in a dress, but still Ju. And she was going to have a fun evening with Nolan, Jeremy, and Alenna. "There's Jeremy and Alenna," Julia said, pointing to one side of the room. They were in a very romantic embrace and Julia noticed they were dancing. "Hmm, there isn't any music playing." she said.

"Yeah, there definitely needs to be more things for us to do... places we can go. We shouldn't have to spend all our time stuck at school, you know? I mean, after the attack, of course they had to cut down on the Hogsmeade trips, but we can't just stay cooped up here all the time, either. Maybe they could find a way for us to have special events or activities every weekend... Just so we have something fun to do." He happened to glance up in that moment, and he caught sight of Julia and Nolan entering the ballroom. "Hey, Nolan and Julia are here," he said, waving to them.

The festivities were running late, so it was time to move things along. Albus Dumbledore made sure that everything was ready befire he went out and approached the increasingly nervous house champions and their dates.
"Ah, there you are," he said, his eyes twinkling. "Alice, Samantha, Maxi, and Regina... I want the four of you to know that, whatever happens, we are proud of each and every one of you. You are each a credit to your houses and to your school. Now then, as you know, you are to enter the ballroom shortly and lead the students in the first dance of the evening. But what you do not know, is that the Yule Ball is actually your second challenge."
He handed each of them a letter on a scroll of parchment. "Read this and think about it for a few moments, and then I will be back to get you and lead you in."
He bowed to them, then was gone.

Alice looked at her fellow champions, then turned to Frank nervously. "I wasn't ready for a challenge tonight," she said, biting her bottom lip. "What kind of challenge can we do dressed like this?"
She stared down at the scroll for a minute, then took a deep breath and opened it. It read:
Back in the 20s and 30s, marathon dancing was a popular activity--partners would dance for hours and even days, to see how long they could last. The winners traditionally won money, and there were people who travelled the US participating in these events.
We will be doing a dance marathon--with a twist. Since the champions, and not their dates, are competing, their dates do not have to dance the whole night. The champions must switch partners throughout the night. They may dance with their dates 3 times (the first dance and the last dance, and one other). They must also dance with each of their competitors' dates at least once. They must never be without a partner, and they must not stop dancing. If they stop dancing, they are finished with the challenge. The champion who lasts the longest will be the winner of the challenge.
After the traditional opening dance with their partners, each champion has 20 minutes to eat and drink and do whatever else they need to do to prepare themselves for the challenge.
No magic will be permitted for this challenge. This is a test of endurance, coordination, and determination.
Good luck.

She said, "As long as I won't be imposing! Maybe I could come visit during winter vacation, and I promise I won't stay too long. Thanks, Nick! It'll be nice to meet your family, especially since they'll accept me. At least I hope they do," She finished with a smile. She no longer felt herself blushing; either she wasn't or she was finally getting comfortable enough around Nick to talk without getting embarassed, which was quicker than it usually took to be comfortable around others for Roxanna.
