Albus Dumbledore had more than his share of reservations about holding to his decision about the Tournament and the Yule Ball. But the Department of Magical Games and Sports were perfectly clear on one thing--the Tournament must continue now. The Goblet of Fire was a binding contract, and they were obligated to play it out accordingly. But if felt wrong, considering how many people--including students--had died in the attack in Hogsmeade.
So he had postponed the dance until after Christmas (making it more of a New Year's ball), and ordered a toned-down, sober affair. Now, at long last, the ball was about to begin.....
(Note: Chaperones and staff members should arrive before couples.)

Carlisle had been ordered by his wife to go down to the Great Hall so that he could chaperone the dance. This was already planned, that he would be chaperoning. But the ordering part was Amadora's way to get him out of the way as she spent time fixing Adelaide's hair and getting her ready for her date with Peter. It was better this way, Carlisle was not pleased that his little girl was going out with an older boy. Or going out with any boy at all. It was too soon.
Carlisle was dressed in his best formal robes, the collar of which had always bothered him. But Amadora said he looked "dashing" and he liked that, so he never got another set. His dress shoes had hard soles that clicked as he entered the Great Hall, the acoustics in the room only made the sound louder and more prominent. "Professor, the place looks completely different," he said of the decorations as he approached the Headmaster.

It seemed crazy to Isabella that Dumbledore had decided to carry on with the tournament and the Yule Ball after the events in Hogsmeade. She had been there, and still remembered with perfect clarity how terrible and traumatic the scene had been. A man had died right in front of her, from a curse meant for her. Students had died, civilians had died, and a few of the attackers had been killed as well. With so much carnage, it seemed almost impossible to carry on with frivolities like the Yule Ball. After all, the last time the school had held a ball, the Halloween Ball from the previous term, Elle Wright had gone crazy and stabbed Laitia in front of everyone. Isabella couldn't help but fear what might happen this time.
Still, as a Hogwarts staff member, Isabella was required to chaperone. Furthermore, as the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor, she needed to be there to protect the students, in case anything terrible should happen. Conor would be spending the night with Emily and Vincent, so she and Voltaire would be attending the ball together, without having to worry about the baby.
Isabella stood in front of the mirror, admiring her reflection in the straight black gown. She had lost all of her baby weight, and was back to her original size. Her hair was swept up off of her face, and her high heels made her look taller than ever.
Satisifed, Isabella walked over to the door, behind which her husband was still getting ready. "Voltaire! Are you ready, darling?"

"Yes! nearly!" He finished buttoning his formal robe, the dark green interior of his robe could be seen as he moved, He had on a fitting pair of sliver pinstriped slacks. He was like his house colors! He sighed as he checked his pocket watch, Conor was on "safe" and Isabella was on "Waiting" and he was currently on "Nearly late". He understood the need to try and distract the children from the horrors of the world, it was a very ugly place at the moment.
He stepped out of the room and toward the door where Isabella was waiting. Black and green, they weren't totally mourning colors, they had to remind themselves they were still alive. It was still such a sad thing to do though, moving on was always a sad thing.
He reached the door and held out his arm for his wife. She was a vision, as always, she seemed to think she had to work to make herself beautiful to him.
"Precious heart, would you give me your hand for the night?" he asked bowing his head to her.

Nikita had a hand in decorating a few things and organizing what she could. She was one of the Chaperones but they were trying to go easy on her since she was one of the individuals hurt in the attack. She felt fine now and her wounds had been healed, enough so that her gown was virtually backless to prove that the burns and the scars were gone. She wore a floor length crimson gown that hung round her neck with a modest enough neckline and hung low in the back, it was actually quite sophisticated but then again she was expecting to meet Vaughn tonight and she was perhaps a little excited.
Taking a deep breath she looked around the room and waited for others to arrive.

Erica was actually in agreement with Dumbledore, proceeding with the Yule ball and the tournament would be overall beneficial to the students who otherwise would grow too idle and too worried about their circumstances. Everyone was somber and there was no changing that, but the Yule ball was an excellent example of life continuing on.
She wore a deep purple gown that was reminiscent of her marriage, in high society she had many such gowns though as of late not many reasons to wear them. She found Nikita shortly and struck up a conversation. Unlike her colleague however she wasn't waiting on anybody tonight.

Daniel fiddled with one of the buttons on his classic black and white dress robes, before deciding he looked fine. He ran a quick comb through his hair and smiled, glad it didn't take him too long to get ready for the ball.
He went down to the Great Hall and was immediatly struck by how different it looked. Hopefully, Daniel thought, this would brighten the spirits of most of the students.
Daniel saw Nikita and Erica and moved toward his fellow chaperones. "Good evening Ladies," Daniel smiled.

Caleb was used to these sort of affairs as of late. You didn't join the Montgomery clan and not experience it's dramatic impact on your social life, but really he was here for one reason and that was to see to his sister and his cousin's safety. Now Geoffrey and Nicolas were going to be at the ball anyway and that would certainly back him if anything , heaven forbid, should go wrong.
He noticed who was already in attendance and nodded, his sister and her date would show up later to officially start things with the other champions, until then he simply had to bide his time, although his mind kept wandering toward Adele and if she was going to be there tonight.

Erica smiled at professor Tortuga, " Evening Daniel." she nodded taking another glance around the ball room, " Things are shaping up." she said with a tinge of excitement in her voice, she wanted the night to be a happy one for the students and was hoping that her excitement could somehow make it so.

Isabella broke into a wide smile at the sight of him. Even after a year of marriage, she still felt a little thrill go through her at the sight of him. She moved over to him and wrapped her arms around his waist. "You look very dashing," she said in her warm voice. Lifting his chin with her finger, she kissed him deeply. "You know you have my hand and my heart, every night," she said. "It's almost too bad we have to go to the ball... how rare is it that we have a night where we don't have to worry about Conor? I know Emily and Vincent will be perfect with him... they need to get in a little practice for their own little one."

Voltaire laughed "I think Vincent needs a lot of practice! I'm sure Conor will let him know if he isn't doing his part time job right." Voltaire leaned into her kiss and then kissed her neck "We have to show up for the ball... and i'm sure we'll have to stay until it's over, check to see if all the students are in bed, It promises to be a very late night, In fact, I don't think we'll have a moment to pick up Conor until at least morning." It was a wicked trick he thought, leaving his son with Novices like Vincent, but it would be very eye opening for him! " What do you think My dear?" he asked with an evil chuckle.

Isabella laughed as well. "I'm sure Vincent will do fine... or, if not... at least Emily is there." Both Emily and Vincent would soon understand all too well how hard it was to take care of a child... and Conor would be easy, compared to a newborn. But Isabella trusted them, and was sure they would be wonderful parents. She just hoped Conor didn't make things too easy on them tonight... just so they could get the practice.
At Voltaire's suggestion, Isabella gave her husband a seductive smile and kissed him again. "I like the way you think," she replied, trailing a finger along Voltaire's jawline. "After all, if Vincent and Emily are to get any real practice, they really should have him overnight, anyway, right?"

"Ah! well you know what they say about Great minds..." he smiled and pushed open the door and offered for her to go first. "To the ball my lady?" and shut the door behind them and began walking with her toward the ballroom.
"Do you think Conor will give Emily and Vincent a hard time?" he smiled and added "I personally hope he doesn't give them a false impression of how babies are."

Isabella just smiled as she moved through the door. "Well, Conor has spent some time with Emily before, but never without me," she said. "But at least he's familiar with her. And he's been a lot less fussy lately, so hopefully he won't be too rough on them. But... I hope he's not too easy on them, either. They do need to get used to this, you know?"
They walked down the stairs and entered the Great Hall, which was decorated to look like a frozen wonderland. Even though it was no longer a Yule Ball, but a New year's ball, there was still a definite wintry theme.
"They did a nice job," she observed. "Classy. Oh, I hope everything goes OK. I don't think this school can handle another tragedy."

Daniel smiled as Erica adressed him. "Yea, the hall looks great." he nodded. "It's almost too hard to tell that this is even the Great Hall anymore." He looked around happily. "I hope the students will enjoy it." They had been through a tough time. Daniel agreed with Professor Dumbledore that he thought the ball will brighten the kids' moods, even if for just a bit.

Evangeline looked at herself in the mirror again to make sure that she looked alright. To be honest, she was somewhat nervous. Her dress fit her well. It wasn't to big, nor to small. It wasn't anything flashy either. It was simple, yet elegant at the same time. The length went to the floor, however it didn't drag. Her hair was pinned back with a few loose curls falling down and she had on just a touch of makeup.
Sighing, Evangeline arrived at Wesley's door. Biting her lower lip lightly, she raised her hand to knock on the door.

Wesley, meanwhile, was extremely nervous. Even though he was really just a chaperone, having Evangeline as his date made the event a little more special. And he was a terrible dancer. He was very afraid that he was going to embarrass himself, and Evangeline, with his terrible dancing.
But at least he looked good. For the first time ever, he had traded in his glasses for contact lenses. Along with a fresh haircut and a nice set of tailored dress robes, Wesley looked quiet dapper that evening.
At the sound of the knock, Wesley walked over to the door and opened it. The sight of Evangeline on the other side of the door was nearly enough to knock his breath away. She was beautiful.
"Evangeline," he said softly. "Good evening."

Once he opened the door, Evangeline took in a breath about to say something but it was caught for a moment. She took in Wesley's appearance. He wasn't wearing his glasses, which Evangeline could say was probably her first time seeing him without them, not to mention he was dressed nicely, it seemed that he wore his robes well.
A smile came to her face. "Good evening to you to Wes," she said letting out a breath. "You look quite handsome." A light pink tinted her cheeks, and it was probably going to remain there for the night.

Julie didn't take long to get ready to help chaperone the dance. She was one of those 'ready in a moment's notice' kind of girls, always had been.
Even still, she didn't take special care to arrive early, and was only just showing up. Not all of the staff was quite there, so she didn't feel too bad about it.
She recognized Daniel... a familiar face to make her smile. She came up and joined him and Erica Nikkita. "Hello," she said. "You all look very nice tonight."

The last thing Augustus wanted to spend his evening doing was supervising a hundred bratty kids dancing. But he had to put on appearances, didn't he? He at least hoped there would be some drama he could get amusement from. Or maybe he could learn something more about the Hogwarts staff. Something.
He was quiet when he came into the Great Hall, keeping to himself, really.
