Roxanna smiled at him and felt a light blush creep over her face when he put his hand on her waist. She wasn't good at dancing, either, so his statement made her relax a lot. "It's okay, I'm not that great at dancing, either," she said. "My mom said that was always something I should've learned to do, me being a girl and all. She said that I'd be dancing a lot," She said, and felt herself ready to rant if she didn't stop talking now. She ranted when she was really nervous, and this was one of those times. Their dancing was more of a shuffle, both too afraid to step on the other's feet. "My mom said the same thing about my sister, Ashley." Nick said. "She had danicing lessons, and I was always the practice partner, but Ash would get frusterated cause I'd trip or fall down." he chuckled. Occasionally, Nick would look down at his feet, but for the most part, he kept his eyes up, looking at Roxanna with a smile on his face.

Adele blushed and her eyes lowered to the floor. She wasn't used to compliments like that, or anyone making her smile quite the way he did just then. When it seemed like everyone else happily let her push them away, he just kept sticking around. And making her smile. She couldn't stop thinking about that.
"Thank you," she told him. "You look quite nice, yourself. Are you here with Samantha or Christine?" As if to punctuate this thought, she glanced around for them.

Alenna and Jeremy were sitting at a table, waiting for Julia and Nolan, where ever they were. She had her hand in Jeremy's and she was watching as a few couples were getting on the dance floor, swaying along even if there wasn't any music playing. "How cute," she said.
Suddenly, she stood up. Her hand still in Jeremy's, she dragged him with her. They've danced with no music before, that was when Jeremy asked her to the ball. She blushed at the memory and smiled at jeremy as she pulled him along to the dance floor. "Dance with me?" she asked quietly, smiling wide.

"Right now I seem to be here with you." he said with more charm than anyone would have thought him capable of. Truth was Caleb could in all likelihood seduce the pants off of almost anyone were he to give it an honest shot, the fact that his studies consumed him was the main deterrent, that and he had never found anyone he truly cared to seduce. Apparently that was about to change. It wasn't a conscious decision he made, but rather something inside him was bursting and he was just trying to keep up with it.
"Besides, Sam would rather die than have her big brother on her arm all night," that was a lie he knew, Sam wasn't like that, still it was true of most teenage girls, " and Christine already has her big brother on her arm." he explained, "I'm a chaparone." that made him feel suddenly older and inwardly he frowned.

Roxanna laughed along with Nick, and thought that dancing lessons might serve her well, if she could even convince her parents to let her get them. She wasn't sure what they'd say if she asked, and she figured her dad would just laugh at her.
"Maybe I could talk to your sister about giving me lessons, just in case we go to a dance again. Is she any good?" Roxanna asked, and realized she knew nothing of Nick's family. The two of them didn't talk about what their lives were like outside of Hogwarts.

"yea, she's not bad, I guess," Nick said. "Ash is more of a bookie kind of girl, you know? She's in Ravenclaw, a sixth year," They swayed a little, keeping beat with the silent music. "My little sister Sarah though, she's nine, she's a regular princess that one," he chuckled. He'd never say it aloud, but Nick secretly wished he was in the same house as his sister, and also missed his little sister terribly.
"What's your family like?" Nick asked.

((I know I posted about her parents in the last post, but I got her history mixed up with another one of my characters. Sorry, just ignore my mistake!))
Roxanna thought about the best way to put what she had to say, and decided upon telling him the truth rather than just try to make up something. Lying, Roxanna didn't think, was a good way to start a relationship.
"My mom died when I was ten, and my dad...well, he's a muggle, so he really doesn't like me all that much. He says I'm a disappointment and he doesn't want me around much," Roxanna replied, talking quietly, hoping no one else could hear her. She was a little embarassed about her home life, and she only wanted her closest friends to know about it.

Jeremy might have felt embarrassed going out onto the dance floor without any music playing, but it did help that there were other people out there already dancing. Besides, being with Alenna made him feel confident in a way that he never had before.
“OK,” he said, grinning. “I just hope I don’t step on your feet this time. You have really nice shoes, and I wouldn’t want to ruin them.”

Post by Rystain Quandry on Jan 6, 2010 13:41:39 GMT -5
(Bear with me, this is my first attempt to post as Rystain!)
Rystain was not one to go out of his way for anything. Perhaps it was a byproduct of always having everything he had ever wanted in his life handed to him on a silver platter. Things came too easily to Rystain, and for this reason, he often placed little value on them.
This was why, even as his roommates were getting ready for the Yule Ball, Rystain slept. Lani would be waiting for him, he knew, and although there was a part of him that was looking forward to seeing her all dolled up, the ball itself really held very little interest to him. He figured that he would get there when he got there, and Lani would wait for him.
After his roommates all finished getting ready and left for the ball, Rystain casually rolled out of bed and went to get a quick shower, then began to get ready.
As a result, he left nearly half an hour after the rest of his roommates. And yet, to look at him, no one would have guessed that he got ready in about 20 minutes. He was well dressed in perfectly tailored black dress robes with a black satin collar and patent-leather shoes. He even had a single red rose in his hand for Lani.
Arriving outside the great hall, he could see her standing there, a bright jewel against so much grey. She also looked nervous.
He broke into a smile and strode down the stars toward her, holding out the rose. “Lani,” he said. “You look exquisite.”

“Why wouldn’t anyone else ask you?” Neil said, incredulous. “You look so pretty tonight… easily the prettiest girl in the room.”
What he didn’t say, of course, was that he thought that was true even when she was wearing a t-shirt and jeans and not even a dab of makeup. Even lined up next to her sisters, she was the prettiest in his eyes.
“Honestly, I asked you to dance early so that I could have a chance to dance with you before everyone else came to ask.”

Bobby smiled and shrugged. "Thanks." She appreciated the compliment and thought it was sweet, but she rarely believed anyone when they told her she was the "prettiest" or anything like that. After all, there were two more of her. And really, Linette wore more make up, so if you lined the three of them up, she'd be the prettiest. But they were all pretty equal anyway. At least in Bobby's eyes.
What she didn't tell Neil (because he wouldn't want to hear it) was that she often felt overlooked. No one would ask her to dance because they would be pining after Linny, or chasing Callie in vain. Except Neil, because he was her friend. She also imagined she could steal a dance from Dierks or Jonesy, unless they had dates tonight.
"Well, tell you what... if you see me not dancing later, I'd appreciate it if you wanted to ask me again."
He was stuttering less, not tripping over his words, and it made Bobby smile. He always seemed a lot more sure of himself when he wasn't in the middle of a crowd. She admired him for it, in fact. It was easier to blend in and become anonymous in a crowd.

Dean was going to do what he could to chase any suspicious Jackie had. He wasn't dumb. He knew that Jackie wasn't going to just take him back without any suspicious or being a little angry. That was going to make him work harder. "Oh, below the staircase," he said jokingly as they started to walk in that direction. Dean was going to attempt to keep things easy between them. Putting the teasing aside, he pulled her into a hug. "I know," he said softly, placing a kiss on the top of her head. "I can't apologize enough for making you angry and upset. I missed you too." "Yeah, behave yourself," Jackie told him, teasingly. It suddenly seemed that aside from the footsteps on the stairs, the noise in the hall had been muffled. It gave them a feeling of being very much alone. "Hey... do you want to just skip this whole dancing thing? I don't think the dress is really me, anyway." If he wanted to stay, of course she would. Some part of her even wanted to dance with him, of course. But they had a lot to talk about, and some time to make up for, and she didn't want all those eyes on them while they were doing this. Besides, what if all of Ravenclaw turned against her because Zoe wasn't with him?

But as they talked, they were moving back toward the table, where Glenn and Linette and Micah were still sitting. As they got closer to them, Neil’s confidence began to fade a little bit. “I’ll have to t-take you up on that,” he said, blushing and staring at his feet.
Hopefully he would be able to catch her alone again. It was so much easier to talk to her without anyone else around. When it was just her, he didn’t feel everyone else’s eyes on him or hear their laughter in his head. He could be himself around Bobby; he knew she’d never laugh.
They reached the table, and he pulled out her chair for her to sit down before taking his own seat next to her. “Th-thanks for dancing with me,” he said, feeling like an idiot.

"Thank you for dancing with me, Neil," Bobby told him, reaching over and squeezing his hand as she gave him a smile. She meant what she said... she really didn't think anyone else would ask her. Neil was the only guy who really made her feel like she didn't blend into the background behind her sisters, and even if she didn't quite understand what that meant, she appreciated it.
She leaned in towards him, well aware that there were others at the table. "Hey... I think I'm going to leave the dance early. If you're not around when I do, I'll come say bye, okay?"

His face flushed as she leaned close to him, and for a minute he couldn't breathe. She was so close... If he were a braver man, he would kiss her right now. But of course, he didn't.
"If you're l-leaving early... I could w-walk you b-back to your common room... if you wanted. J-just to make sure you get there safely, I mean," he said.
The truth was, if she left the ball, there would be no reason for him to be there. He really was too shy to talk to most people, and so he didn't have a lot of friends.

Bobby leaned back and nodded. "All right. If you wouldn't mind leaving, anyway, I'd like the company back to the common room." She was smiling gently. Neil was a sweetheart, and it helped that she knew how he was, so shy with people and such. And that was Bobby- she was easy going and laid back, and people found it easy to be themselves around her.
"Callie might kill me if I left early, but..." she shrugged. "I don't know. I'm not feeling it tonight, you know? But I liked dancing with you. Thanks."

"Oh I'm not worried, you did really well when we danced the first time remember?" Alenna took Jeremy's hand and led him to the dance floor. She placed her arms around his neck and she began to sway back and forth, occasionally humming along to some tune in her head.
She smiled at Jeremy and kissed him softly. "This is nice," she said grinning. She couldn't help but smile, Jeremy made her absolutely happy.

"I'm sorry," Nick said honestly. "That's horrile, you shouldn't ever be treated that way," he added. Not by her father. Nick always felt very close with his family. He didn't know how he'd feel if any of them wouldn't want him around. Sometimes his sisters would say as much, but he knew they loved him in the long run. "I would never treat you that way," he added, looking at her, smiling kindly to prove he meant it.

“I don’t mind skipping the dance, I was sort of hoping you would say that you wanted to too.” He gave her a sheepish look. It wasn’t that he couldn’t dance or didn’t want to be there with her because he really did, it was just they were more alone and they couldn’t have that if they were at the dance with everyone else. Dean pulled from her and took a look at her again. “And quite honestly, I believe that that dress is completely you.” He wasn’t just saying it. “You look amazing.”
He smiled at her again and kept whatever comments he could have said to turn her words around to himself. “Where do you want to go? We could always go up to the seventh floor.”

Jackie smiled, blushing a little. She didn't think she was entirely comfortable in the dress, but it was pretty, and she was done up all pretty. Hearing Dean say it just made her feel as amazing as he said she looked. "Thanks," she murmured. "I kind of did it to make you jealous... or... maybe not jealous, but I wanted you to notice me while you were dancing with Zoe." She shrugged, somehow just now realizing that she'd put effort into look good for Dean even when she was mad at him. It was so much easier just not to fight with him.
"The room of requirement?" she asked when he mentioned the 7th floor, and nodded. "Sure, that sounds fine. It will be quiet, anyway."
