He looked at Jackie a little confused when she said that he would be dancing with Zoe. "Just so you know Jackie, I wouldn't have been dancing with Zoe. I asked you to the dance, and I was going to take you, even if you were mad at me. I never thought about asking Zoe to go because well, I have you. Even if I didn't ask you, I wouldn't have asked her." His tone was quiet.
Dean winked at her and took her hand, leading her away from everyone else. "We can still dance up there. I'm feeling a little selfish right now."

Bobby leaned back and nodded. "All right. If you wouldn't mind leaving, anyway, I'd like the company back to the common room." She was smiling gently. Neil was a sweetheart, and it helped that she knew how he was, so shy with people and such. And that was Bobby- she was easy going and laid back, and people found it easy to be themselves around her. "Callie might kill me if I left early, but..." she shrugged. "I don't know. I'm not feeling it tonight, you know? But I liked dancing with you. Thanks." Neil looked over his shoulder at Callie, who was still dancing with Casey. It was actually really really cute, and he smiled slightly before turning back to Bobby. "I think Callie will be fine," he said in a low voice. "She might even have fun." He finished the last of his pumpkin juice and took in the sight of Bobby in her dress, with her hair curled so pretty. She took his breath away, really. He always thought she was the prettiest girl in the room, even when she was wearing her Hogwarts robes and no makeup, with her hair back in a messy ponytail. But he still hadn't got up the courage to tell her that. "I enjoyed dancing with you, too. Even if there wasn't any music."

"She'd never admit it if she had any fun."
Bobby smiled and leaned forward, putting her chin in her hand and resting her elbow on the table. "Thanks, Neil. I liked dancing with you. You're..." Well, he was safe and kind, and wouldn't make comments that she was too within anyone's league. "You're very sweet to have danced with me at all, music or not."
Taking a sip of pumpkin juice, she looked him over again and smiled. "You look very nice tonight. You clean up well," she said with a nod, as though she approved it. It seemed a waste to shame both their efforts if she left, and Merlin she wanted to. Thanks to Jeremy, she was just moments away from crying, anyway. This ball was really the last place she wanted to be.
"Come on, Neil. I'm done here. I'd like to go back to my dorm, if you wanted to walk with me."

Neil blushed a deep shade of red when she told him that he looked nice. He’d managed to tame his thick curly hair so that it didn’t look like it was making funny animal shapes on top of his head, and his skin had been pretty clear in the last few weeks. And although he wasn’t aware of it, the cut of his dress robes made him look a little less gangly and awkward. “Thanks,” he said.
He could feel Glenn’s eyes on him and was eager to get away, so he didn’t try to convince Bobby to stay. Instead, he stood up and held out his hand to her. “Let’s get out of here.”

Bobby missed the raised eyebrow look that the two of them received from Glenn as she took Neil's hand and stood up. She took her dress in her free hand so that she wouldn't trip over the abundance of cloth. She did like the sound it made when she moved, though, and she did feel quite pretty tonight. Just after Jeremy's comment earlier and her whole mood, she didn't feel like staying. Neil's willingness to leave with her made her smile and feel... well, not so alone.
"I'm hungry. Do you want to raid the kitchens with me?"

Neil, however, did catch the look from Glenn, and, had he been a different sort of boy, would probably have returned the look as if to say "in your face." But Neil was not that type of boy, and instead, he looked away, embarrassed. He wasn't stealing Bobby away from the ball or her sisters or Glenn... he was just escorting her out, because she wanted to leave. There was nothing wrong with it.
"The kitchen sounds great," Neil said. "I'm starving."
Neil was often seen eating, actually, when he was not studying. Being tall and skinny, he had one of those metabolisms where he could pretty much eat whatever he wanted, and he just seemed to get taller and skinnier.
"Did you want to give an excuse to your sisters?" he asked, nodding pointedly at Linette.

"No," Bobby said, waving the thought off. "Neither one of them is even going to notice I'm gone. Well... Callie might. But I'll see her later."
Linette, though sitting at their table, seemed utterly absorbed in Micah, and Bobby didn't care to interupt it. In fact, she was kind of jealous, and it was one of the reasons she wanted to go anyway. She didn't see that she was almost in the same position and Linette. Besides, if either of them asked, she'd just explain that she hadn't felt well.
Once outside, she glanced at the students still hanging around.
"You know, I don't care for these formal events much. The dresses are pretty, but really..." she trailed off, not bothering to finish her thought, and instead ended with, "And all these bobby pins are ridiculous." She let go of Neil's hand to take the offending pins out of her hair, letting her curls fall loosely around her face, giving them a much more relaxed and still elegant feel.

If only she knew how pretty she looked when she took the pins out of her hair, letting the curls spill down over her shoulders. It reminded him of a moment in an old movie with Rita Hayworth, when she tossed her head and her hair seemed to tumble into place like a shining waterfall. For a moment, he couldn’t look away from her, and if she had turned to meet his eyes, she would have seen a look or complete and utter adoration shining in his eyes.
“Your hair looks nice down like that,” he said, blushing and looking down as if to study a non-existent spot on his robes. “You should have worn it like that.”
Looking back at her, he tugged on the collar of his dress robes. “But I know what you mean. These dress robes… they’re so tight… I wish I could have worn muggle clothes.”

"Oh, thank you," Bobby said, holding the bobby pins in her palm for a moment, making sure she'd gotten them all out of her hair. "Linette said to wear it up." She shrugged. "It feel more comfortable down, anyway, and it's still curly, so...." she trailed off, realizing that she was speaking 'girl' right then, and that Neil probably didn't care. She'd kind of agonized about how she looked, and really, for what reason? To leave early?
"You probably could have gotten away with muggle clothes. Cameron came in muggle clothes, and I don't think they kicked him out yet. And really, don't you think it's a little unfair that the girls can wear muggle dresses but you have to wear robes? Which, by the way... they look nice on you."

Neil blushed again, looking kind of embarrassed. He wasn't used to getting compliments on his looks, and from Bobby.... well, that meant a lot. Especially when she looked the way she did at that moment.
"Thanks. I... I guess it's a little unfair, but it doesn't bother me that much. I mean.... if I didn't have to wear dress robes, I don't know if I would know what would be appropriate to wear. I guess it's just, like... guys... we don't really know how to dress well, so we need someone to tell us what to wear. Girls... they understand that sort of thing a lot better. Or... at least... that's what they think. I guess."

Bobby smiled. The way he spoke sometimes made her smile. It was almost like he knew exactly what he was talking about, but never fully committed to it, adding "I guess" and "Maybe" and words like that. She wondered why that was, but didn't comment on it.
Instead, she lead him into the kitchens, looking to see what the house elves left out that was easily accessible. "Yeah, maybe," she told him. "But I don't think that's giving guys enough credit. I think you'd all figure it out well enough."
She turned towards him and put her hands on her hips. "Do you think I'm good at understanding what to wear?" she asked, using his words in her question. Then, before he could answer right away, she added, "Sometimes it takes a lot of effort. Robes are just easier on a lazy day."

Neil shrugged. He was pretty sure he wouldn't have been able to come up with something to wear. But some guys, like Cameron or Rabastan or Rystain or Nolan... they probably would have done just fine. Cameron had proven that. Even though he had been dressed in muggle clothes, he still looked well-dressed. Better than his date had.
"Yeah... I suppose so," he said. "But I think a lot of guys need help with that sort of thing."
Her next question made him blush, though. He liked her fashion sense. She usually wore jeans and a nice shirt or a t-shirt, but it worked for her. It gave her sort of a girl next door look that was incredibly appealing. Her style was similar to Callie's, but the overall effect was softer.
"You have nice clothes," he replied. Was that an appropriate answer? He wasn't sure, and he looked away, embarrassed.

Bobby smiled softly. It wasn't quite the answer she was looking for, but then again, Neil wasn't telling her that she looked like a mess every day, either. That was good enough for her.
She caught one of the house elves' attention, not responding to Neil, and asked for a slice of cheesecake... she was in the mood for it. Her dad made a delicious cheesecake on Christmas every year, and sometimes she missed it. She hated to admit that she wasn't completely independent, but sometimes she found herself wishing she was closer to her father. Distance wise, anyway, as her relationship with him was already very close.
"What would you like, Neil?" she asked, and as she looked over her shoulder, she stopped for a moment, taking a breath. Why was he here with her? "You know, you can go back to the ball if you want. I wouldn't blame you. I mean, I wouldn't mind."

Neil watched her for a minute as she was talking to the house elf. Somehow, she seemed utterly unaware of just how pretty she really was. She could have had a dance with every single boy at the boy, and probably even a few boys who weren’t single, if she had wanted to. It seemed somehow that Linette was the only one who was truly aware of the effect that the triplets had on boys. Callie, if she knew about it, didn’t seem to care. And Bobby, she seemed oddly insecure for someone as pretty as she was. But Neil would have adored her even if she wasn’t as pretty and wasn’t a triplet, just because she was warm and caring and smart. How could she not see how amazing she really was?
He turned to the house elf and asked if he could have a brownie, then let out a small laugh at her comment. “What, and spend the night sitting in the corner alone drinking pumpkin juice? No thanks. I’d rather be here with you.”

He was being nice to her, she thought. If he just put a little more effort into talking, he'd have a group that would hang out with him. Not that she thought his shyness was a flaw, and she thought he was really exceptional one on one... it was when his humor and his personality really came out. Her point was that he didn't have to be alone at the ball, if he didn't want to be.
But she smiled anyway. "Thank you, Neil. I really appreciate the company, you know? I think I'm just in a weird mood tonight for the ball. But this is fun."
The house elf returned with a brownie and the cheesecake, and Bobby took both plates, handing one to Neil. "Hmm... nuts or no nuts on your brownies?" she asked, just curious.

The real truth, the thing he didn't say to her, was that she was the only reason he had bothered to come to the ball at all. He hadn't even really expected to be able to talk with her, let alone dance with her or leave with her; he had just hoped to be able to see her and admire her from afar as she danced with other boys in all her finery. Instead, here they were, and he almost had to pinch himself to be sure that he wasn't dreaming. Now he was silently wondering to himself if she would have actually said yes if he had been able to get up the courage to ask her to go with him.
"The ball did seem kind of weird. Sort of... fake, you know? Like everyone's trying to pretend they're something that they're not. I like this better."
He took the plate from her and smiled, then led her over to the little table to sit down. "It depends on my mood," he replied. "Sometimes, you just don't want anything to get in the way of the chocolate. But most of the time, I like them with nuts. They add that extra little bit of intrigue, you know? Although, I think the best kind is with little chocolate chips mixed in...."

She'd been jealous and illogical, and well, much like a girl. She sighed. "I'm sorry I didn't trust you," Jackie said as he started to lead her away and up the stairs. "I just... Zoe's so pretty, and you have a history with her, and she's in your house... I don't know what I thought."

((No problemo)) Nick listened intently as Roxanna spoke about her family. "I'm sorry," Nick said honestly. "That's horrile, you shouldn't ever be treated that way," he added. Not by her father. Nick always felt very close with his family. He didn't know how he'd feel if any of them wouldn't want him around. Sometimes his sisters would say as much, but he knew they loved him in the long run. "I would never treat you that way," he added, looking at her, smiling kindly to prove he meant it. Roxanna smiled and looked away, both from embarrasment from what he said and from how her father treated her. Nick was the first guy she really liked who liked her back, and just the thought of him being with her, and that he'd take care of her, made Roxanna a bit uncomfortable, but in a good way. "Thanks, Nick. That means a lot to me," She said as she brought her gaze up to meet his. "But it's alright, it's been like that for a while. It's why I never go home during any break, except for summer break, but I don't want to go home then," She said, adding in a nervous chuckle at the end. "But let's not talk about stuff like this, we're at a dance. It should be happy stuff!"

"I would never do anything that would intentionally hurt you Jackie," he said. There was no way that he would mean to hurt her. It nearly broke him in two when he realized that he had hurt her when he didn't do anything. She was his best friend and the only person he had ever told everything too. "Plus, we have a longer history together. I'll always choose you."
Dean stopped where he was, not minding if anyone was watching, and pulled Jackie close to him. Without a word he leaned down and kissed her.

It still seemed like a dream to Jeremy. He had liked Alenna for a while, and although they had talked on a couple of occasions, he never expected that she would like him back. And now she was his girlfriend… it was really kind of amazing to think of it.
They danced slowly, moving to the non-existent music. It was strange, but he almost could have sworn he really did hear music, that was how magical it felt to be dancing here with her like this.
“Yeah, it is,” he said. “I think the school should have more dances like this, don’t you think? Just so it gives everyone the excuse to get all dressed up and dance with each other.”
