Scarlette was so close to just breaking down. She was shaking as they were levetating Jamie back to the castle, and it was only because Bek had pulled her back that she wasn't probably dead on the street. It came with great relief when the man came to them... an adult, not wearing a mask. She was all too willing to put her trust in him. "He was attacked," she said, her voice wavering. "The Cruciatus. He feinted. Please help him..." If this was Jamie's father, it was probably the best person that could have found them. Mathieu frowned worriedly. It could have been worse, of course. But the cruciatus curse was considered Unforgivable for a reason. Some people never recovered from the pain that was inflicted on them. And Jamie was so young... "OK, we have to get him out of here, fast," he said. "Back to the school. I just wish there was a faster way to get back to the school without going through the edge of town. A lot of death eaters are starting to gather there, blocking people from getting back to Hogwarts. We might have to take the long way..."

"Honeydukes!" Bek exclaimed. "There's a passageway in Honeydukes that brings you straight to the castle," she said. "It'll be quicker than the normal path to Hogwarts," she offered.

Mathieu let out a huge sigh of relief. It would definitely be easier to take Jamie back to the school through a secret passageway. Honeydukes had undergone some damage, but for the most part, it was in better shape than many of the buildings around it. He now noticed the group of older students that were guarding the storefront and battling the death eaters trying to get forward. Even though Alice and the others were the same age as Jamie, he still felt an enormous amount of relief to see them holding back the enemy and keeping them distracted.
"OK, let's make a break for it," Mathieu said. He put his arms around the levitating form of Jamie and prepared to run for Honeydukes. He hadn't found Suri or Roland, but Jamie needed his attention now. At least Suri and Roland were fully trained aurors...

Now that there was an adult here, in charge, Scarlette sort of let go. She followed them along numbly, still shaking. She was terrified that Jamie wasn't going to be all right, and the only reason he was even hurt was because he had come back for her. If he didn't make it through this, it would be her fault.
There was very little Scarlette admitted being scared of. Losing Jamie was one of those things, and she took a deep, shakey breath as they made their way into Honeydukes.

Bek showed Jamie's father the way and the three headed, quickly, toward the sweet shop. As Mr. Fererra levitated Jamie, Bek noticed Scarlette sort of lagging behind. Bek reached out and took Scarlette's hand, giving her a comforting smile. "He'll be fine Scarlette," Bek said. "His dad is here, we're getting him to the school, he's going to be fine..."

Alastor watched as the spells came towards him, his strength was fading, grief from the loss of Grace began overwhelming his desire to continue fighting. Throwing up a hasty shield, the stunner dispersed against it, attempting to twirl out of the way of the second curse, as the curse grazed and seared his flesh Moody felt an intense amount of pain, as the full force of the spell crashed into the building behind him, it sent shrapnel and dust everywhere. Feeling an intense pain in his right eye, he dropped the ground and realized he couldn't see out of it. Feeling around he noticed a large chunk of rock was sticking out of the socket where his right eye had once been.
Looking over to Grace, he knew that shortly he would be in her arms once more.....

Elphias looked down at the body of an unconscious death eater, yet one more simpleton who thought he could make an easy target of an old man. Looking around once more at the scene of destruction around him, he sighed sadly and heard a scream from close by, an all too familiar scream. "Alastor, by Merlin's beard, what did you manage to find this time!" Yelling at no one in particular, he took off at a sprint until he turned the corner and saw Alastor on the ground, and a death eater ready to strike the killing blow.
Whipping his wand around quickly, he hurled three balls of fire towards the death eater, followed by a trip jinx. Turning to Alastor, he sprinted over and grabbed the younger auror around his waist. "We're getting out of here Moody, now!" Closing his eyes, the two Auror's disappeared without a trace.

Kingsley's eyes went wide, as he heard the death eater throw a Cruciatus Curse his way. In his weakened state he had hoped that he would be strong enough to block it, mustering as much of his strength as he could manage, he braced himself for the oncoming curse. Throwing up a shield charm, he watched in horror for a split second as the curse shattered his shield and hit him, full force.
Dropping to the ground the pain seemed to hit immediately and wracked his entire body, looking over to Marlene, his only thought other than the pain was that he would miss her dearly. Gritting his teeth for as long as he could, the pain finally overwhelmed him causing him to scream at the top of his lungs before the world around him, finally faded to blackness..

Claudia was enraged. She had been enjoying seeing the great Alastor Moody in a weakened position. In fact, she had not yet planned on hitting him with a killing curse, because she'd rather wanted to toy with her prey a little longer. But the Cruciatus curse she sent never found its target, because a withered old man came along and rescued Moody, firing several curses in her direction. She stamped her foot on the ground like a spoiled child, just before she put up a shield charm to block the fireballs. The third one caught the corner of the shield, igniting her sleeve.
She hit the ground and rolled around, putting out the fire. It had left a large hole in her sleeve, and the flesh underneath was red and puckered.
She immediately walked off, looking for someone to kill.

Marlene was still fighting the death eater when she heard Kingsley cry out. "Kingsley!" she yelled.
She fired a quick succession of spells at the death eater she was fighting, then ran over to Kingsley. The death eater he had been fighting was now standing there, taking aim at her, so she put up a shield charm and fired a disarming spell at the death eater before grabbing Kingsley and apparating. Frank and Alice were already gone by now, so Marlene went straight to St. Mungo's.

Post by Albus Dumbledore on Feb 17, 2009 16:32:10 GMT -5
Albus Dumbledore had, unfortunately, been out of town on the morning of the attack. He had received a cryptic message claiming to have some important information about Lord Voldemort, and had gone off to meet with his so-called informant. Instead he had wound up being detained to deal with a minor conflict, and didn't find out about the attack in Hogsmeade until it was well under way.
Finally he was able to apparate into Hogsmeade, just as Vincent and Angelique, both of whom had been similarly detained, were also arriving.

Claudia was not far from where Albus Dumbledore had apparated, along with the Minister of Magic and the head auror. It was a lucky thing that she saw them when they arrived, because their arrival was to be the cue to leave Hogsmeade. Immediately, she pointed her wand at the sky, uttering the spell that her Lord had taught her. "Morsmordre!" she shouted.
Immediately a jet of light shot up from her wand, and a symbol appeared in the sky. It was of a skull with a snake coming out of its mouth. Just like the symbol burned into her arm.
That symbol was the signal for all remaining death eaters left in town to evacuate immediately, so Claudia did not stop to admire her work. Instead, she apparated immediately.

Roland was in the middle of a battle with a death eater when the symbol appeared in the sky. The death eater saw it immediately and apparated, not even bothering to send a parting curse before disappearing.
Roland looked over at Riley and saw that her death eater had done the same thing. Obviously, the symbol in the sky was a signal of some kind.
He walked over to her. "Are you OK?" he asked.

Riley wasn't sure how much longer she could hold out against the Death Eater, who was similarly skilled as she was. Neither of them seemed to be doing any damage to the other, and then, all of a sudden, they were just gone.
She glanced around. Death Eaters everywhere were just apparating away. Roland's voice caught her attention, and she turned to see him. "Yeah. Are you?"

Roland nodded. "Yeah, I'm fine," he replied. He looked around, and could see a lot of aurors standing around looking confused, but all fighting had come to an abrupt halt. The death eaters had retreated.
"OK, that was weird," he said. "Do you suppose that means the attack is over?"

"I don't know," Riley said, skeptical. "Maybe they're just regrouping." She realized suddenly that Dumbledore was here, and she shot a look to Roland. "Maybe they were waiting to get all of the students back to the school?" There were no Aurors left there that she knew of... everyone had been called here. Maybe they were done fighting... but could they take that risk?
Even if they were done fighting, there was a lot to be done here, too. There were buildings to check, bodies to clear out, though that wasn't technically the Auror's department, Riley would help.

Roland noticed Dumbledore, along with Vincent and Angelique, coming in their direction. "Wait... do you think the school is in danger?" he asked, his voice rising in alarm.
Instantly his mind turned to thoughts of his brother and sister, both of whom he believed to be back at Hogwarts, safe and unharmed. He couldn't stand the thought of either of them being hurt, especially if there was a chance he could have protected them.
"I... I need to go back and check," he said.

"Go," Riley said, understanding and not arguing. "I'll meet up with you," she added, her eyes on Angelique. She felt like she should tell one of them their concerns, and then help Roland.
"I'm going to talk to them first... let me know if you need me," she said, knowing he'd send a patronus if an attack happened there.

Roland nodded, glad she understood. "Good luck here," he said. "I'll send a message if anything's wrong. Otherwise, I guess I'll see you back at the office."
His expression was grim as he took a breath and apparated to the edge of the school grounds.

Riley nodded. "Be careful," she said, and watched him apparate before she turned her attention to Angelique, Vincent, and Dumbledore. They could help.
She ran to them, her wand still clutched in her hand. She didn't know if they had a specific destination, but she needed to tell them their concerns quickly, just in case the school was in danger.
Upon meeting them, she explained where Roland had gone and why, a silent question in her eyes about what they were supposed to do now.
