Zander led his 5 pack members--Pearl, Dean, Chloe, Karl, and David--into the forest. He still felt a little nervous about what they were about to do, but it was necessary. They had to try and rescue Ashura from Gretchen's pack. After a while, he allowed Karl to take the lead, since he knew the spot where Dawn had been found. He forced himself to feel more confident... after all, he had a good pack here. Dean, though he was new, looked strong and tough. Karl was a good fighter, and so was David. Pearl and Chloe could take care of themselves. So why was he so worried?

Chloe followed Zander and the rest towards the woods. As they walked, she couldn't really bring herself to really walk beside Karl. She kept a slight distance so that he was in front of her. When Zander allowed him to lead, Chloe still kept the distance from him. She knew that she couldn't think about anything other than the task at hand. They couldn't afford any mistakes, after all there were only five of them.

Karl noticed that Chloe seemed to be walking far behind him, and he wasn't sure why. It was strange, not like her at all. She usually wanted to be near him. He glanced behind her and saw that she was walking near the new pup, Dean. He wasn't sure why, but it bothered him. There was something about that new pup that he didn't really like.
But as they got close to the spot where they had found Dawn, he forced himself to stop thinking about these things and focus on their mission. He could smell that Zander was worried, and he wanted to prove to him that he didn't need to worry. Everything was going to be OK, he was sure of it. After all, they had defeated Greyback's pack... how bad could Gretchen be?

David noticed himself that Chloe seemed to be keeping her distance from Karl. He shook his head slightly and continued on following. Gretchen couldn't be that bad, could she? David knew that he could help distract for a bit, but hopefully there wasn't going to be too many there. He kept his mouth closed for the trip there.

Pearl Walked at Zander's side. Worry was pouring off Zander in waves it seemed to her, But she was closest to him, she knew him better than even Karl. She quickly rested her head on Zander's shoulder to lend some support. She felt a worm of worry edge its way into her thoughts. She nonetheless smiled at Zander as they made their way closer toward their goal.

Dean walked just behind Chloe, watching her for a moment. She was definitely annoyed. She kept glancing toward Karl, looking angry. After a few minutes, he smiled to himself and walked a little faster to catch up to her. "You OK?" he asked.

Chloe was still glancing towards Karl when Dean spoke. "Um," she questioned. "Oh yes, yeah, I'm okay. Why wouldn't I be?" Chloe glanced towards Dean and smiled. "Are you okay?"

Zander felt Pearl lean up against him and he immediately felt calmer. He turned to give her a smile as he slipped an arm around her waist. "I know I shouldn't feel worried," Zander whispered to her. "We're doing what we have to do, and if I let myself worry, I'm just putting the whole rescue mission at risk. Still... sometimes, it's like I hear Greyback's voice in my head, telling me I'm not good enough. Stupid, huh?"

Dean shrugged. "Yeah, I'm OK. I'm not really sure what I'm doing here... I pretty much was just turned into a werewolf, and now I'm going along on rescue missions against rival packs? I don't know, it's just weird."

Chloe gave a small laugh. "Ah, it'll be alright. I promise. Just use your head, and just follow," said Chloe. "Although you may not be sure what you're doing, just follow what your head tells you. It's not going to be that bad, I don't think."

Dean shook his head. "I can be kind of a hothead. I don't know if I should listen to my head... maybe I should just follow orders." He sighed. "So, I still don't really understand the deal with this Ashura. Why did she get kidnapped again? Are we sure she isn't just joining this other pack?"

Chloe nodded. "Yes. Evidently what happened was, her brother was a werewolf hunter. He ended up killing Gretchen's mate. Well, Gretchen wants revenge on the hunter and took his sister to get him to come to her," said Chloe. "So that's what is basically is going on. We want to make sure that Ashura gets out safe, since we don't really trust this Gretchen woman."

Dean listened to all of this with great interest. "So he's a werewolf hunter, but his sister's a werewolf?" he said. "Well, what about that other girl... back at the house? The frail girl who stumbled into the meeting? What's her deal?" He knew asking about the girl would probably annoy Chloe, because of the way Karl had talked to her. But he wanted to see her react.

"Yeah, but he's not a hunter anymore. He fell for a werewolf of all things," said Chloe. "But it's for the best I guess." She gave a slight shrug. Chloe almost sneered when Dean asked about Dawn. "Oh," she said. "That's Dawn. She's one of Gretchen's. She's not quite right in the head I don't think," said Chloe. She hoped that answer would satisfy him, and he wouldn't ask anymore questions about it, because frankly, she didn't want to talk about her.

"Oh, OK," Dean said. "This is all so weird to me, you know? The whole pack thing... the rivalries.... I guess it's sorta like the houses back at Hogwarts. Still, I never knew being a werewolf was so complicated. It's pretty interesting, really. You sure you're OK?"

"Trust me, you'll get used to it soon," said Chloe. "Yeah, I guess you could say they're like the houses at Hogwarts. However, here, it can get a bit more violent. It's not so complicated after awhile. When you're growing into one, it just seems that way since you're new to everything, but soon, you will understand things, maybe not everything, but a lot more things will make since." Chloe glanced ahead then glanced back at Dean. "Yeah, I'm sure I'm OK. Why wouldn't I be?"

Chloe really just wanted to punch Dean at the moment for dragging out the topic, however she contained herself, which was kinda hard. "Well, he does what he has to, to make sure that she makes it," said Chloe. "And I just don't feel like walking up front," she said snapping a bit. "I'm sorry I didn't mean to snap. Let's not talk about it, please. I want to have a good night, not a bad one. And yes, we're friends."

"OK, I'm sorry," Dean said. "I didn't mean to upset you... I just thought you might need to talk about it. But we can talk about something else. But if you need to talk... you can come to me, OK? I'm a good listener." He was starting to disgust himself with the sappy talk, but he had a feeling it was what Chloe needed. "Um, so, anyway... we're supposed to follow a scent or something? What are we looking for and how do we know when we find it?"

"Thanks," said Chloe. "I'll keep that in mind." She gave him a smile. "Well, the other night, when we found a little girl, who was a werewolf as well, we were around this area. The next morning, Skye and the little girl, Coda, already went to the stream to clean up. Karl woke me up, and we headed that way too. While we were on our way there, Skye and Coda saw Ashura with Gretchen. When me and Karl got there, Dawn came. So we're going back to where we first saw her, and just head that way, after we split up. We're not quite sure where her pack is, but it has to be around there some where."
