"Oh, OK," Dean said. He didn't say anything else for a little while as they picked their way carefully through the forest. "When you guys are walking around in here, do you ever get any trouble from the centaurs or anything?"

"Centaurs," repeated Chloe. "Hmm, haven't any trouble from them. As long as you keep your distance and don't bother them, they won't bother you." Chloe gave a slight shrug. "Just keep that in mind, it'll help you keep on their good side."

"That's cool," Dean said. "I knew a kid in school who wandered into the forest and got attacked by centaurs. But he was kind of a jerk, so maybe he was harassing them or something. I've never been this far into the forest before. I always wanted to, but I wasn't stupid enough to go it alone. I heard there's a family of giant spiders or something back in here somewhere."

"Good. Glad you have at least some common sense." Chloe laughed and gave Dean a wink. However, her laughter died away at the mention of a giant spider. "Giant spider? Ew. I can't say that I've heard of one being back here. I just hope I never run into it. I don't really care of the little itty bitty ones, but a giant one AND family!? Oh no sir." She gave a slight shiver. "I'll have to be more careful were I go then."

"Yeah, it's just a rumor I heard," said Dean. "I don't know if it's true. They used to tell about some kid who got eaten by a giant spider or something, but it might've just been one of those stories they tell to keep kids out of the forest."

"Let's just hope that it's just a rumor then," said Chloe. "I think I would die if I ever came across a giant spider and family." Chloe shook her head. "So, Dean. Are you scared of anything, at all?"

Dean thoguht for a minute. "Well... this'll sound kinda stupid, but I'm afraid of lightning. Before my parents died, I was friends with this kid who lived down the street. He was a muggle, but we were friends, anyway. And one day we were out playing and it got really dark and cloudy... we tried to make it back before the storm started, but we couldn't... we were about two blocks away when it started pouring rain, and there was thunder and lightning. But we kept running until we were almost to his house. When he got to his yard, he ran up the lawn, and suddenly, there was this bolt of lightning..." he stopped and shuddered at the memory. I was burned a little bit just because I was close by, but he never made it."

Chloe frowned and put a hand on Dean's shoulder as they walked. "I'm sorry," she said. She let her hand fall back to her side. "It's not stupid to be afraid of lightening. After that, I think I would have been scared of it too. It's never stupid to be afraid of something, after all, we're all afraid of something, wherever we would like to admit it or not."

Dean frowned. He was starting to feel a little weird. He had never told that story, or his fear of lightning, to anyone before. "Yeah... I guess you're right..." he said.

Chloe could smell a different scent on Dean. "Don't worry, I'm not going to tell anyone about your fear, or your little story," she said with a smile. "We all have our little secrets."

"Thanks," Dean said. He smiled slightly, then looked away. "So, uh, are we almost there? I think I hear some water running near by."

"Hmm," said Chloe. "Yeah, we're almost there. Just a bit further. I'm not sure how far we're going to go before we stop though."

Pearl strained her hearing to catch parts of what the pack was saying. Living so long with Greyback didn't present itself without eccentricities to a pup as young as she was. She smelled the air, it was getting thicker with scents she didn't recognize, she thanked the wind silently that it blew the scent toward them and not theirs toward their enemies. she trained her ears forward toward the scents, she heard nothing so far.

Karl stopped a moment and sniffed the air. He recognized Coda's scent; they were obviously close to her cave. He turned around. "OK," he said. "I think we're getting close to where we found Coda. Not far from there is the river, where Skye saw Ashura being dragged away."

Zander nodded. "OK, thanks. Everyone, I think we should be really quiet from here on in, OK? We don't want to take a chance that one of them might hear us." He quickly squeezed Pearl's hand, then turned back to Karl. "Karl, lead the way."

Chloe turned to Dean. "This is the part where you don't do anything, unless we need you too. Just be as quite as you can, just remember, it's for your safety and ours. I'll be back," she whispered. Chloe slipped past Zander, Pearl, and David to were Karl was leading. "Do you smell anything other than Coda's scent," she whispered as they reached closer and closer to the river.

Karl glanced at Chloe and sniffed the air. At first, he didn't notice anything unusual and he shook his head at Chloe as he kept walking quietly towards the river. But then, suddenly he stopped. He caught a scent of... someone. It had a bitter, sour scent, sort of like cheap perfume and alcohol. "Someone's coming," he said to her in a whisper.

Chloe continued to glance up at Karl as they walked. She diverted her eyes to the path ahead to concentrate on what was ahead. As Karl stopped, she stopped beside him and smelled something horrible. Chloe wriggled up her nose. "Ew," she whispered. She just nodded at Karl's response. "What are we going to do then, hide?"

"I think we better," he whispered back. "And we should scatter. All of us together will be too obvious. If we split up, it will make the scents harder to track."

"We should split up the way that Zander said something about back at the house, so that way, it's only three of us. We'll meet up soon," Chloe whispered back and stood on her tip toes to give him a quick short kiss on the cheek, although she was sort of annoyed with him from earlier. "Be careful," she whispered.
