"It's alright," said Chloe in a low whisper. "You're learning. You have to be on your toes about things like this. I know you wanted to look, it's natural, but when in this kind of situation, you have to force yourself not to look. Just be more cautious okay? I know you don't really understand anything, but that's what I'm here for, to help you anyway I can."

"OK," Dean said. "I just feel like... I don't know what I'm doing. I'm kinda used to keeping to myself, you know? I think you guys shoulda left me behind."

"No, we couldn't leave you behind. After all, you do have a wand don't you? Plus, you seem like you could be pretty decent if you needed to fight, and you need the experience," said Chloe. "It's okay that you feel like you don't know what you're doing, it's your first time doing something like this, although, we each need our chance to learn something don't we?"

"Oh, right. Yeah," he said, remembering his wand. He had forgotten that many of the other werewolves didn't know magic at all. It seemed strange to him, because magic was such a part of his life, and had been for as long as he could remember. Really, a lot of the other pack members were little more than Muggles. It was strange, but that term no longer meant anything to him. "I'll try not to screw up. I'll just stick with you."

Chloe gave him a kind smile. "You'll do just fine," said Chloe. "Don't worry. There's hope and wits in you. You just have to find it."

"Thanks," Dean whispered back. He just hoped he didn't run into the girl from the river again. He still wasn't sure if he could control himself...

Chloe continued following the path that Zander was taking. Her mind drifted off, as it had been doing as of late. She thought about Karl for a bit. He seemed sort of not really wanting to talk a lot, but then again he was 'busy' taking care of Dawn. Chloe herself had been not close to him like she usually was. She had to shake her head to try and get the thoughts out. Just letting her mind like that wonder could get her into trouble out here if she wasn't careful.

Zander was following the girl's scent, when he suddenly came to a stop. He could smell other scents nearby. He could even hear faint voices in the distance up ahead. Crouching low on the ground, he whispered to Chloe, "Keep low and don't move for a second. I think we may be close."

Chloe glanced towards Zander and crouched down, pulling Dean down too. She put a finger to her lips. Chloe glanced around carefully, not really moving, then she turned her glance towards Zander again, waiting for his move.

Dean crouched down low next to Chloe. He wasn't sure what he was supposed to do next, but he figured Chloe would let him know if there was something he had to do. So he waited and watched, trying to remain as still as possible.

Pearl liked that Zander was sticking to his decision to bring Dean, she was however bothered that Chloe had such a control over him. Perhaps she wasn't so strong in her roll as Alpha, or she wasn't clear with her what it entailed to be Alpha. She shook the thoughts out of her head. Her wolf disapproved of the idea of it, but this wasn't the time to be reasserting power rights within her group. She followed the rest of the group silently through the wood, small snaps of twigs seemingly natural in the time.

Zander crouched low in the bushes, straining his ears to pick up any sound. Carefully, he sniffed the air, hoping to pick up a scent, even as he silently hoped that the juniper bush he was hiding in would mask his own scent. Peering over towards Dean, he saw the new pup trying to remain motionless, but still looking uncertain. He questioned his wisdom again in bringing Dean with him, but reassured himself he was doing the right thing by showing the boy that he was a part of the pack and that he was trusted. he was sure it was what Pearl would do. He wondered what she was doing at that moment. He would have felt a little stronger if she had been with him.
Suddenly, he caught a whiff of a scent heading in their direction. It was similar to the girl they had seen by the river. Was she doubling back? He signalled to Chloe and Dean to fall back. If she was coming toward them, now was the time to move, not when she came closer.

Dean spotted Zander's signal, but wasn't sure what it meant. He remained, frozen in place, looking over towards Chloe for help.

Chloe moved very slowly and quietly backwards. She moved beside Dean and took a hold of his arm gently and started to move backwards with him, using her other hand to signal him to be extremely quite. Now was not the time to make any sound.

Dean folllowed behind her, trying not to make a sound. But as he moved, he wasn't watching where he was going and he tripped over a tree root that was half buried in the forest floor. As he did so, his shoe came off and flew a few feet away, in a pile of dead leaves and branches. "Oh, crap!" he hissed under his breath.

Chloe turned towards Dean. Of course, the sound had to be the result of Dean. She mentally groaned and went beside him, bringing her finger to her lips, signaling him to hush. Chloe leaned to his ear. "We must keep moving back, don't stop," she whispered, barely audible.

"OK!" Dean whispered back, a little too loudly. He realized it, then clamped his mouth shut tightly as he backed up slowly, trying not to make another sound. He was now beyond nervous and it took every ounce of strength he had to keep from shaking in fear. They couldn't get caught... he couldn't ruin this for the rest of the pack....

Quinn was advancing slowly toward them. She knew they were there, that they had followed her. As she had hoped she would. She had already warned Gretchen of the approach of the rival pack members, now she was going to see if she could drive them out of hiding. She heard a loud rustling of branches ahead, followed by a loud THUNK. Then she smelled fear. Yes, one of them, the pup... he was afraid. If he could not master that fear, he would continue to make mistakes. Then she would have him.

Dean continued with the retreat, trying to watch his steps and keep his mind focused on what he was doing and not his own fear. He couldn't mess up, not now. He caught a whiff of the girl's scent as she approached. It was hard to describe what he smelled, but the sense he got was that she was a predator, stalking them... stalking him. He had to be on his guard if he was not going to get caught.

Zander scanned ahead, first checking on the girl's approach, then looking over to where Dean was. He could smell the pup's fear from the distance. If he couldn't squelch it, he could cause them to get caught. Maybe he should get them out of there. The three of them could all apparate... maybe it was time just to vanish from the scene.
His decision made, he moved toward Dean and Chloe.
