"You, too," Karl whispered back. He gave her hand a quick squeeze, then went over to Pearl and David. "Someone's coming. We gotta split up and hide," he whispered to them.

David glanced to Karl and gave a short nod. "Come on Pearl, we need to hide, quickly then," said David. "We're following you Karl."

Chloe slipped back to where Dean still stood. "Come on Dean, come with me and you too Zander. Someone's coming and we've got to hide as quick as we can," whispered Chloe.

Zander nodded at Chloe and grabbed Dean before he hurried off in the other direction to hide. He had expected something like this to happen, so he was not surprised. He could only hope that whoever was coming hadn't caught their scent.

Quinn was doing a quick perimeter sweep of the camp when she decided to take a quick trip to the river for a drink. But as she got closer to the river, she caught several scents floating on the breeze. She stopped abruptly and sniffed the air. She counted 4... 5... no, 6 different scents approaching. At first she thought they might be centaurs, but after a minute, she knew it was not. She recognized several of the scents as the ones she had followed when trying to find Dawn. These were the people who had Dawn!
She knew she should go straight back to camp to tell Gretchen, but she decided to investigate a little further. She crossed the river and walked a little further, towards the scents. It seemed like the people had decided to split up, because now she was only noticing about three scents. The other three seemed to go in the other direction. She smiled to herself. Obviously, whoever these people were, they were nopt expecting her. She kept walking, quietly picking her way through the brush, and noticed one of the scents, slightly separate from the others, that was a little more bitter. It had a light, uncertainty to it, but also a darkness. A new pup... but with a dark side. She smiled again... she could work with that. She lingered just a moment longer, then , trying to act casual, went back to the river and took off her top. Then she stepped into the shallow water and began to splash water on herself.

Dean was crouching under a low bush when he saw a woman walking towards him, sniffing the air. He peered through the branches to get a look at her. She was one of the hottest girls he'd ever seen. He saw her smile, then walk over to the river. To his amazement, she turned with her back to him and took off her top and began bathing in the river. His jaw nearly hit the ground and he strained to try and get a look at her from the front. As he shifted in the bush, he barely noticed that he was making a lot of noise, rustling the leaves and breaking off bits of branches.

Chloe heard Dean making noises with the bushes. She slipped over to him, and looked through the bushes. Chloe shook her head and gave him a quick smack on the head. "Keep your eyes in your head boy and get back," she whispered harshly to him, so only he could hear. "You've got to be quite and not let your hormones get you killed!" Chloe grabbed a hold of his shirt and pulled him back. "Men, I swear," she muttered.

Dean flushed bright red. "Sorry!" he hissed. "I just..." He shook his head and clamped his mouth shut as he continued to watch the girl with wide eyes.

Chloe continued to shake her head and put her hands over Dean's eyes. She leaned down to where her lips were right at his ear. "You have to be focused. If you don't, you'll get us all killed, including yourself. You better use your common sense, and stop worrying about what that girl's doing," she whispered lowly and harshly. "Just clear your mind, and then think about what we came here for. After we do what we came here to do and get back to the house safely, you can do what you please. Understand?"

Dean nodded and tried to clear his mind. But the truth was, he didn't really care about rescuing Ashura. He didn't know her and had never even met her. And he wasn't the rescuing type. He had no desire to play hero. He would rather chase after this hot girl instead. But the pack had taken him in, and welcomed him so completely... he felt an odd need to not let them down, especially Chloe. So he forced himself not to look at the girl and to focus his mind on the task at hand.

Chloe removed her hands. "Good boy," said Chloe with a smile to him. "You see, things like that, no matter how amusing or whatever it is to you, can be the death of us all. Just keep your head on straight, and you'll do just fine." She moved over towards Zander. "Should we wait until she moves or try to go around?"

Zander hesitated for a minute, trying to decide which was best. Clearly the girl had detected their scent. She knew they were there and was putting on a show, probably in the hopes of exposing a weak link. She had almost succeeded in tripping up Dean, who was young and impulsive. He was now questioning of bringing the new pup with him, when he'd only been a werewolf for a few days.
The way he saw it, they could try to move past her and beat her to their camp, and if she caught them, they could even try to knock her unconscious, which would prevent her from alerting her pack. But she looked small but strong, and he didn't think she'd go down without a fight. If a fight broke out, the chance was too great that her pack might hear it or smell it and come to her rescue.
The other option was to wait and see what she did. But she knew they were there, and when her attempt to smoke them out failed, she would surely go back to her camp and warn the others.
Neither option seemed preferable, but he went for the safer one. "We'll wait here," he whispered.

Quinn continued to listen even as she splashed herself with the water from the river. She could hear rustling in the bushes, but it stopped abruptly. She crouched down and dipped her head in the water, wetting her thick, dark hair. Then she stood up and tossed her hair back, spraying water behind her. If it had been light out, she would have acted as if she were sunning herself by the river bank, but instead she slowly put her top back on, not caring that it clung to her wet skin. She squeezed out her hair to keep it from dripping, all the while sniffing the air for a trace of the intruders. They were definitely still there, waiting for her to go. Interesting.
Finally, she took a quick drink from the river, then turned and walked back into the forest. Instead of walking back to the camp, however, she began to complete the perimeter sweep of the camp, intending to walk around it to get to it. This way, she figured, if they decided to follow her, they would get lost.
She smiled as she walked away. If these idiots thought they could sneak into the camp, they were about to be very disappointed...

After the girl had gone, Zander remained motionless for a few minutes. He needed to be sure that the girl wasn't going to double back, and besides, he still had a few decisions to make. Since the girl clearly knew they were there, the smart thing to do was probably to call off the mission for tonight. But would they be able to do it again tomorrow? He feared that it was already too late, and that even if he called it off for tonight, their presence here tonight would cause the other pack to be on high alert. And they didn't really have a lot of time. There were only two days left in the week that Gretchen had give him to return. They should have done this sooner. He sighed.
When he was sure the girl wouldn't be looping back around, he quietly stepped out of his hiding place and walked over to Pearl. "Pearl, I want you to stay back here with Karl and David. You'll be our backup. I'm taking Chloe and Dean and we're going to follow the girl's scent. I don't think we can rescue Ashura tonight, because I'm sure the girl will have alerted her pack by now. What I want to do instead is hang back and see if we can get an idea of how big the camp is, and how many members are in the pack. That way, maybe we can round up a few more people--maybe a few more of the refugees from Greyback's pack--and charge them tomorrow night. But I need to get a look at what we're up against."
He sounded confident. But inside, he was terrified that he was making the wrong decision. Maybe he should be the one to hang back and let Pearl, the real leader, take over. But he gritted his teeth and forced back his doubts. "Chloe, Dean, you're coming with me."

Chloe remained silent and glanced over at Zander as he seemed to be contemplating something or another. She didn't move as he left and ran over to were Karl, David, and Pearl were. As he returned, Chloe came out of their hiding place, and removed a few leaves from her hair. "We're following her I take it," said Chloe.

Zander nodded. "Yes, but not too close. We're just going to scope out their camp, not necessarily go in. I'm sure the girl is going to alert her pack, and we can't risk a full fight with them now. But I want to see if I can figure out how many of them there are."

"Alright. That sounds like a plan," said Chloe. She checked her pocket to make sure that her wand was still there. "I just hope there isn't a lot of them, or anymore guarding the area."

"Me, too," Zander said. "OK, let's go. Keep at a distance, and Chloe... keep an eye on Dean," he added in a whisper. He headed off in the direction where the girl had gone.

"No problem," said Chloe. "C'mon Dean. Keep up and don't do anything stupid." Chloe grabbed Dean's arm and pulled him along with her as she followed in the direction Zander went. She let go of her hold on his arm as they headed deeper into the forest. Chloe didn't really like the idea of going deeper into the forest, it wasn't that she was scared, it was just she didn't really have a positive feeling about anything anymore. She forced herself to stop thinking about it and continued on their journey of finding the camp.

Dean followed behind Chloe, feeling more than a little uneasy. Why was Zander bringing him? Why not Karl, or David? After what had happened by the river, he was beginning to think he was a danger to them. His head wasn't in this. He had no reason to care about Ashura. But he never even got a chance to protest before he was dragged away. "I'm sorry, Chloe," he whispered.
