Alek had instigated the table dancing by insinuating that Christine was too classy to do such a thing. She quickly proved him wrong and stared him down as she climbed onto the bar stool then the table. Alek had to grab the drinks hastily from the table before Christine knocked them over, to which she laughed and called Alek her hero.
They were having such a fun time that Alek nearly forgot about his plans for revenge.

Then it happened. One person called out for Vanessa to sing and soon a majority of the crowd had joined. Christine's eyes sparkled, "Oooh this is the best part."
Vanessa's shift had just ended. When they did Karaoke night she usually waited til most of the set was over before she sang. She enjoyed singing, but the attention and demands from the audience could be overwhelming.
A piano filtered in, and a familiar melody followed. Vanessa was singing La Vie en Rose. She held the audience in her hand as she sang of love and rose colored glasses. Christine was thankful Vanessa had picked a love song. It didn't matter happy or sad Vanessa had the power to make a person feel what she was singing whether they wanted to or not. Her voice was full of raw emotion sent through a perfect instrument.
Christine looked at Alek, "Dance with me."

Alek looked around, not sure where the chanting had started or what was going to happen to make it stop. Then their waitress took the stage and Alek instantly understood why the entire bar had chorused her name.
He looked to Christine and smiled. "As you wish," he said, taking her hand and guiding her to an opening in the room.

They weren't the only ones dancing, and as predicted Vanessa went on to sing a few more songs, each one sultry and romantic. Christine allowed herself to be pulled in.
Vanessa's singing, the copious amount of alcohol Christine had consumed, and Alek's presence was a heartbreak waiting to happen.
There was something different about dancing with him now compared to how they had danced at Lyra's ball, there was a new element involved: friendship. Genuine feeling.

Friendship. The bane of man's existence. Friendship ruined perfectly good carnal activities, which is what Alek wanted. Not only for revenge, as he normally would have sought, but to quell his own desires. Christine moved like a seductive angel whether she was gyrating on a table top or spinning around the dance floor. Alek's heart raced as he watched her. Vanessa's sultry singing only intensified those feelings.

It felt good to be pressed against him. To feel the hard muscled length of his body pressed against hers. She felt safe. Not for the first time that evening she thought about how easy it would be to let Alek be the distraction she so desperately needed. She craved the touch and passion she knew he would bring her, but she also knew the intimate darkness that would follow. The painful void she would experience knowing that she was still in love with another man.
Dorian's face rose up in her mind and she pushed against Alek as if breaking from the spell that had been cast over them.
"I can't do this with you Alek..." she seemed almost panicked now turning away from him and heading for the exit.

Alek was at odds with himself as Christine left him alone in the middle of the bar. One part of him was confused and possibly even wounded that she had left so abruptly, having denounced their affair before it had even started. But another part of Alek smiled. He was making his way into Christine's heart, which would permit him to put a dagger through his brother's. Continued here.

She left the bar to clear her head and when she couldn't she sent for a carriage to pick her up.
That night she sobbed drunkenly in her room cursing Dorian, cursing Alek, but most of all cursing herself.
In the morning she positively wept for the pain in her skull and considered it a lesson well learned. She would have to stay away from Alek until she had her emotions in check.
