Alek gave a belly laugh at her response. Why women felt the need to read such drivel was beyond his understanding, but the fact that she had started reading it before even understanding what was happening was extremely funny.
"Merlin, I hope you've since figured it out," he said through his laughter, with no hint of seduction on his lips. He lifted his beer to his lips then said, "I would have taken the shot, love." He laughed then drank his beer.

She punched his arm again, "Yes, I have." she rolled her eyes.
Christine blushed becomingly, though it was partially from the alcohol and the temperature, "I mostly skipped over the parts I didn't understand." she became sarcastically defensive, "Some of them are actually quite good. Whatever." she picked up her darts and threw them at the board 57/54/50.

"Oi! You need a rock if you're going to attempt to intimidate me," he said as she punched him in the arm.
He watched her throw, then stood as she came back to him. "Very nice." Now it was his turn. 57. 54. 60.
"Ooh, looks like I get to go again. Hmm...let's see how much you've learned from your little books." He wore a mischievous grin and drew out his sentence. "I want you...to kiss...our lovely waitress."

She raised an eyebrow as he paused on the word 'kiss', then laughed in relief and mild disappointment when he said Vanessa.
"Wait...seriously?" she sobered and turned to where Vanessa was. She looked back at Alek, "Yeah in your pervy dreams." she said reaching for the bottle of bourbon.

"Only in the nicest dreams," he assured her. He looked at her as she reached for the liquor. "Are you sure that's where you want to set the bar?"

Christine narrowed her eyes at him and set the bottle back down. Then her expression relaxed and she wore a casual smile, "Hey V, come here for a second."
When Vanessa returned she reached to clear the dishes from the table. "Yeah, did you want something else?"
"Just..." Christine leaned in to whisper something in Vanessa's ear, and the other girl laughed then smirked at Alek.
"Oh really?" Vanessa said raising an eyebrow. She shrugged then and turned toward Christine.
The two girls looked intensely at one another as though they would devour each other on sight, their eyes both falling to each other's lips as they pressed forward. For one very hot moment they inhaled and exhaled each other's breath.
Suddenly Christine moved and kissed Vanessa on the cheek with a loud smack as they both fell into a peel of laughter.

Alek was set to mentally record every millisecond of this performance, watching with a satisfied grin up until the very last second. Alek's face fell into a look of humorless annoyance. "That will be all Vanessa," he said shortly.
After the waitress had gone, though still laughing, Alek turned to Christine. "It may still keep me warm tonight," he said as he rose from his seat, darts in hand, and approached the oche. 39. 54. 48.

Christine gave him a small pout, "Don't be mad." she said in a little voice. Her smile returned and she threw 50/60/54.
"Oooh, let's see..." Christine unconsciously played with her drink, "What are you most afraid of?"

His father.
"You've wasted a perfectly good win on a silly question, love. I'm not afraid of anything," he explained with a smug grin.
He drank his beer and set the near empty glass on the table. "Vanessa, dear, your not doing your job very well," he called to the brunette as she passed. "Keep. Them. Coming." A few moments later the waitress had another pint sitting in front of Alek. "Thank you, love."

"Everyone's afraid of something Alek." she said from experience. You could place every single person in front of a bogart and something would take shape, even the most ridiculous fears. And had she known about Alek's father, she certainly wouldn't think his fear ridiculous. Alek felt about his father the way Sam felt about her mother. It was a unique sort of pain and fear that only a parent could inflict.
"The fact that you won't say what it is, means that it terrifies you, and you're ashamed of it." Which meant it wasn't something common: Death, loss of a family member, spiders, heights etc. She reached out and took his hand gently giving him a small nod of understanding, "You don't have to tell me, I couldn't even imagine what could make someone like you afraid."

Alek pulled his hand away. He took a large drink of his beer and set the glass down roughly as he picked up his darts and headed for the toe line. 60. 60. 57. "You're up."
Alek refused to acknowledge her pretty little speech. He believed he was incapable of fear, his father having effectively replaced that emotion with hatred and anger. He wasn't terrified of anything, nor was he ashamed. What the hell would she know, anyway?

Christine was surprised by his reaction. He had been nothing but charm since she met him, but this was different, she had scratched at something that was buried deep. A part of her wanted to explore. She was curious about Alek, what drove him, who he really was, but another part of her didn't want to press him. She listened to the latter.
"Sorry." she muttered then threw her darts silently: 48. 60. 57.

One corner of Alek's mouth curled upward as Christine's first throw fell too short for her to beat him. When she returned he had his question ready. "Tell me how it felt when we were in the maze that night, before your new friend interrupted us. In the moment, how did it feel?"

She gave him a look, then sighed and returned to her beer. He got to be dodgy with her question, she opened her mouth to give him an equally dodgy answer but stopped herself.
If she wanted a friendship with him, or really any kind of relationship with anyone, she wanted honesty to be at the forefront after what happened with Dorian. She also wanted him to tell her the truth too, so side stepping was out of the question.
"It felt..." she avoided his eyes, then growing impatient with herself she stared him down, "It felt good. It felt nice. It felt the way it was supposed to feel." she answered in a 'there are you happy' sort of way.

Alek gave a smug look of satisfaction as Christine locked eyes with him and confessed what he already knew. He simply wanted her to know it and now that she had said it aloud there was no pretending it had felt any other way.
"You're quite cute when your flustered," he commented.

This game was getting far too serious and Christine felt as though she were losing.
She took the darts and threw all three rapidly, her score mirrored her haste. 45. 42. 50.
"I'm slipping."

"We could forgo the game altogether and just get pissed," he offered as a solution to her complaint.

"Sounds like a plan." she said, not giving in, but wanting to learn more about him and thinking the alcohol might loosen him up. It had certainly had an effect on her.
She poured him a shot, then one for herself, "What are we drinking to?"

Alek picked up the shot glass and held it up to hers. He looked her in the eye and said "to you, love, and whatever endeavors you seek out."

She saluted him on that toast and kicked the shot back. She didn't know what her endeavors were. She felt lost more often than not these days.
"What endeavors are you seeking out?"
