Rochelle looked at the whipped cream on Sully's finger and then back up at him. "I guess so," replied Rochelle. "It never hurts to try anything." She leaned up and go the whipped cream off his finger and then swallowed it. It was a creamy like taste, but it was fairly good all the same. Rochelle smiled. "Thanks," she said. "It is pretty good."

Sully smiled. "I like the look on your face when you try something new," he said. "Especially when it's something good. It's like your whole face lights up or something." He leaned in and kissed her cheek. "I promise you, I'll try to introduce you to other new things whenever I can. Just so I can see that look on your face."

Rochelle laughed. "I believe I will take you up on that. Trying something new is not really something I've done often." She picked up her fork. Using a fork wasn't what she was used to. Sure, she used a fork last night, and maybe once more before, but she wasn't familiar with it. Slowly she used it to pick up a few pieces of scrambled eggs and brought it to her mouth. Rochelle wanted to want to know how to do things like humans did and not have to be embarrassed anywhere, although if she were alone or with Sully, she didn't really mind it. She found out that he didn't care if she didn't know how to do things and that made her fall for him even more. Although, the thought of them leaving Rome and going back was something that she didn't want to think about, even though she knew that they would have too. She didn't want to leave Ashura with Gretchen and would try to help him to get his sister back.

Sully continued eating his waffle, all the while watching Rochelle as she ate. It seemed like he couldn't take his eyes off of her. It almost hurt to look away from her. It didn't make sense, but he didn't care. She was the only thing he could see.
But their peaceful togetherness didn't last. He was shattered from his thoughts by the sound of a loud tapping outside their window. He looked over and saw an owl sitting there. With a groan, he pushed aside his breakfast tray and went over to the window to let the owl in.
After he had removed the letter from the owl's leg, he walked back to the bed and opened the letter. Sitting down next to Rochelle, he read aloud:
Sully,
We tried last night to rescue Ashura, but we failed. Even worse, we were nearly caught by Gretchen herself. Now she's on to us, and the chances that we'll be able to sneak into the camp to get Ashura out are very slim. I also tried to negotiate with her, because we found a member of her pack, a girl named Dawn, wandering in the forest alone and are keeping her with us. Gretchen wouldn't agree to a trade, but she did promise that Ashura wouldn't be hurt if you would just come and meet with her.
I'm afraid there's nothing else we can do here; you're going to have to face her. I'm really sorry.

Rochelle could feel Sully's eyes on her, but she didn't look up at the moment. She was busy trying to use her fork. Using the fork was getting easier and she finally glanced up right as there was a rather loud tapping at the window. Rochelle watched curiously as he went to the owl.
Listening carefully, dread started to wash over her. Going back to Gretchen's was something she wasn't really looking forward to, but it was necessary because there was no way she was going to let Sully go by himself.
"Matt," began Rochelle moving her tray and putting a hand gently on his shoulder. She knew that Sully would have to be the one to set Ashura free, because Gretchen didn't care what she did to get what she wanted. Although, she was unsure how he could get her back without getting hurt badly. Rochelle knew that she would be there, but Gretchen would probably expect that and probably hold her back some how or another. When it came to the idea of the two fighting, she wasn't sure how much she would take before she lost it. "We can come up with something to help you. I don't know what exactly, except for your wand. I don't know what Gretchen can do with it because I don't know how to use one, nor do I know any of the words you use, but I think that you can beat her using it. I'm not going to let you go alone either."

Sully sighed heavily. "We have no choice... we've got to go back. Today." He leaned over to kiss Rochelle deeply. It almost felt like he was kissing her goodbye. "I'll figure it out," he said grimly. "Somehow, I'll survive. I swear to you... there's no way in hell I'm leaving you now. I used to be pretty good with magic; I was an auror. That takes some pretty powerful skills. So I think... maybe I do have a fighting chance. I'm not going to give up, because now I've got something worth fighting for. But you need to promise me that, no matter what happens, you won't try anything. I don't want you to get hurt. This is between Gretchen and me now."

Rochelle loved the way his kisses were, but this time it felt like it had something else behind it. She wasn't sure what, but dwelling upon it wouldn't be any different. "I can't fully promise you that," replied Rochelle, "But, I do promise I will try not to. Don't worry about me while you're with her. I can take care of myself while you take care of yourself fighting her." Rochelle tilted her head slightly to the side. "Okay? You have to promise me that."

Sully kissed her again. "I promise," he said. "I know you can take care of yourself, so I won't let myself get distracted" He sighed and buried his face in her hair. "I just wish it hadn't come to this."
Maybe it had been cowardly of his to agree to run away. Maybe this would have been easier if he'd just faced Gretchen from the beginning. But he couldn't findi it in himself to regret the time he spent away with Rochelle. It had been a beautiful, magical getaway, that made him more determined than ever to face this threat and survive, to be with Rochelle.
"Now, try not to worry," he said. "Just finish eating your breakfast. We should probably leave after breakfast. I don't think we should take the time to do any sightseeing."

Rochelle glanced down to her half eaten eggs and suddenly, she wasn't hungry anymore. Although, she picked up her toast and ate that quickly, finishing up her drink as well. Her nerves would be on end, but she had been through fights before and things turned out OK.
Without saying anything, Rochelle gathered her clothes and headed to the bathroom to get dressed and wash her face. She noticed that her hand was shaking, but she ignored it and continued to dress. Just before she walked out, she glanced in the mirror and noticed her hair curly and in a mess. Rochelle ran her hands through it, attempting to tame it a little. She shook her head and left the bathroom, not worrying how tame or wild it was anymore. It didn't matter.
Returning to the room, Rochelle set a smile upon her face, showing him that she was ready whenever he was. She didn't have a problem not going sightseeing, or whatever he called it. Even thought Rochelle didn't know Ashura that well, making sure that she was safe was what she wanted to do now.

Sully watched her as she left the room, then quietly allowed himself to panic. He should have known that he would be forced to face Gretchen. He'd been a coward in the past, running away whenever things got too difficult. Now that he had Rochelle, and had a chance at happiness at last, he needed to learn how to face up to his problems, and his past mistakes. He didn't regret what he had done, the werewolf Buck had been a danger to others and needed to be destroyed. But perhaps he could have done something differently afterwards. He knew how painful it was to lose the one you loved, and he felt sorry for putting Gretchen through that pain. He could hardly bnlame her for wanting vengeance, since that was what had been driving him since Jessica's death.
He could only hope that, now that he had found love and family, he would not lose it again so soon. Happiness was a rare and fleeting thing, and he didn't want to lose his chance at it before it ever really had a chance to begin. If he could face this and survive, he would really have a chance at perfect happiness. And that in itself was a very strong motivator for survival.
When Rochelle came back in, he could see that the smile plastered on her face was only for show. She was scared, and she was in pain, and she was trying like hell to hide it. He didn't blame her. He stood up and put his arms around her. "Please don't worry," he said. "It's going to be OK. I promise you that. It has to be. We are not going to lose each other so soon, the universe just can't be that cruel."

Rochelle felt herself relax when she was in his arms. She found comfort there and safety. Putting her own arms around him, she wanted to cling to him and wanted to wake up from this. Rochelle felt her water fill the bottom of eyes and threatened to fall, however, she swallowed the lump in her throat and fought the tears. She was scared, more so than she ever been. She didn't want to be left alone again. The words 'yes it can' wanted to escape from her mouth, but she bit her tongue to keep them from doing so. She thought that the universe couldn't be that cruel when she was younger, but when that thought was proven wrong when she lost her brother and Victoria. After that, she was alone and she didn't want it to repeat.
She didn't speak at first, because she was afraid that if she did, the tears would fall. Swallowing the lump in her throat again, Rochelle leaned in and kissed him. Slowly, she pulled away and met his eyes. "I'm ready whenever you are," she said in a quiet voice.

Sully kissed her softly. "OK, just a few minutes. Let me just finish packing, OK?" He pulled back and put his hands on her shoulders, looking at her very seriously. "Rochelle, I know you're not going to like what I'm about to say, but I need you to listen to me. It's very important. I... I might not make it out of this... I'm going to fight with everything I've got, but there's still a chance I may not make it. If I don't, love... I need you to promise that you'll take care of Ashura for me. That you'll be there for her, and love her like your own sister. Please... promise me."

Her eyes widened a little as the words that she never wanted to hear flowed out of his mouth. She wanted to say that there was still the chance he might, but she didn't want to argue. "I, I promise," said Rochelle with her voice cracking. She already knew that if something happened, that would be the thing she would have done anyway because she couldn't just leave Ashura there. "I will take care of her." She couldn't cry, not now.

Sully choked back a sob that was threatening to build in his throat. He couldn't cry, he couldn't let her see that he was afraid. He had to believe that he would make it through this. He pressed a kiss on the top of her forehead. "I know you will. But please don't be scared. I need you to believe that I can survive this, OK? I need your strength as well as mine, to help me through this. I'm not going to give up without a hell of a fight, because I don't want to lose you, and I don't want you to go through what I did when Jessie died."
He wanted to stay there in her arms forever, and never leave. But he couldn't do that. All too soon, he pulled away from her and began to gather up the rest of his things in the little knapsack he'd packed.
Once he had everything, he walked back to her and put his arm on her shoulder. "OK, let's go check out, then I'll apparate with you back to Hogsmeade, OK?"

The thought of losing Sully would probably drive her over the edge. Rochelle was scared of the results of the fight more than anything else. She wasn't scared of Gretchen nor Quinn, just what would happen in the end. "You can survive it. I believed that from the first moment that we found out Ashura was taken," she said, finding that her voice was evening out. She wasn't going to start thinking the negatives, because she didn't want to be left alone again.
Once Sully went to finish packing, she felt empty but that went away as soon as he was back by her side. Rochelle nodded her head. "OK," she replied. She walked down the stairs with him and gently squeezed his hand as they neared the front desk. While waiting on Sully to hand the gentleman the key to the room, she pulled out what money she had on her and looked to Sully, then she counted out what was needed and handed it to the gentleman.

After they had paid the man at the front desk, Sully, gripped Rochelle's hand and led her out of the inn. He swallowed a pang of fear that threatened to overwhelm him as they walked quietly through the streets, in search of a private place where they could apparate. He was stalling, and he was pretty sure it was obvious. But he had a feeling she didn't mind.
Finally, they came to a secluded-looking alleyway. It was actually rather creepy, but Sully knew they wouldn't have to be there for very long. He squeezed her hand. "Ready to go, love?"

Rochelle waved goodbye the the man at the front desk and followed Sully out into the streets. She didn't know what to say, so she kept quite, giving his hand a squeeze every now and again. Her fears were something she was trying to drown. She couldn't let it take over, because even werewolves do crazy things when fear is in control.
Going into the alleyway Rochelle swallowed. Apparating or whatever he called it was something she couldn't ever get used to. "Yeah. I guess I am," she said putting on a quick smile.

Sully sighed and put his arms around her. There was nothing he could say at that moment that would make this any easier. No matter how many times he told her it was going to be OK, he couldn't make either of them believe it.
So he looked into her eyes for a moment, then he pushed back her hair and kissed her deeply. It was a long, passionate, intense kiss that left him shaking with emotion by the time he finally pulled away. "I love you," he said, his voice barely above a whisper.
Then, with his arms still wrapped tightly around her, he apparated.
(We'll end this thread here. You can start a new one in Hogsmeade.)
