Nat nodded. "Okay, I believe you."
She wasn't sure what else to say to him, so she just gave him another small smile, and nodded towards his table. "I imagine your friends are wondering where their drinks are. I'll check on you lot in a few, all right?"

Hayden smiled again. "Thanks," he said as he picked up the drinks. Feeling a little better than when he first walked in, Hayden made his way back to the table. He placed the drinks in front of everyone. "Here you go," he said just as he sat back in his seat.
"What did I miss," Hayden asked as he rejoined his friends.

Damon had been forcing himself to not look over his shoulder at Hayden and Nathalia. But he couldn't deny being very curious. Hayden was the shy type, and had never really shown much of an interest in any particular girl before. In fact, it was the same with all three of his friends... T was always buried in books, Sean spent most of his time with his brother or worrying about something or other, and Hayden was just quiet most of the time. Damon was the one to pull them all together, to inject a little life and energy into their little group. But Damon really did want the best for his friends, and he hoped that Hayden and Nathalia would be good together.
"Oh, nothing much," Damon said. "I was just telling Sean about the hot teacher I met the other day. Caelan. I'm going to take her out to dinner. But hey, enough about me, what did we miss?" he added, with a nod in Nathalia's general direction.

At the mention of Damon meeting a hot teacher, Hayden laughed and rolled his eyes. "You should ask her to dinner. I'm pretty sure she wouldn't turn you down." He felt like he was in a more lively mood than he was before.
Noticing that Damon nodded in the direction of the bar, a sheepish almost shy look crossed Hayden's face. "Nothing really," he said with a shrug. He hadn't told any of them the whole story and he wasn't sure if he really wanted to at the moment. "I have a dinner date Tuesday night." Hayden attempted to be casual about the situation. It had been awhile since he had actually had time to go on a date. The last date he had was probably Erica when he shyly asked her to Hogsmeade in their 7th year. He was pretty sure she had only said yes because she knew he was fairly shy then.

Sean remained quiet during this exchange, and shared a glance with T. He wondered, briefly, if there were any girls in T's life, but he doubted it. T didn't really hide anything, and now that Haydon and Damon were sharing, he figured T would too, if he had anything to share.
And then he glanced at Nathalia again. She was an interesting choice for Hayden to make. Not a bad one... hell, Hayden could use someone who was boisterous and spoke their mind. Just interesting.
"Well done, Hayden," he said, nodding at his friend. "You too, Damon, with this teacher. But then, you've had enough practice. so much for your clever drink names, hm?"

Damon reached over and clapped Hayden on the back. "Good job, mate," he said cheerfully. "Told you she liked Aurors. Or at least responsible guys with their own jobs who probably aren't in the mafia."
He was still joking about it, since the idea that he might have inadvertently joined the mob without realizing it seemed just too preposterous to be true. It all seemed like a big joke, just like everything else in Damon's life.
"We'll see about the teacher," he said. "I'll probably owl her later and see if I can get her to agree to go out with me. But Sean... what about you? Any girls in your life?"

Sean's eyebrows went up as he looked at Damon, knowing he had been foolish to think the question wouldn't be turned on him. He scratched the back of his neck and laughed.
"Merlin, Damon, do you think of anything but girls?" Avoidance, of course, was Seans way of dealing with his personal life. Besides, he didn't want to mention Lydia, because he wasn't really sure that there was anything there. Much like Hayden, he didn't want the teasing for something so new and, well, barely there.
"Anyway... Both of you should have fun on your dates. Just be good to the girls."

Damon gave Sean a blank look. "What else is there to think about?" he said. "Honestly, I can't think of anything else I'd rather think about than girls. Unless maybe it's a good strong drink. This one, for example..." He raised his glass with a laugh. "I think this one is appropriately named, because a few more of these and I'll be sleeping with the fishes."
He took a long, slow drink from the glass, then looked back at Sean. "Seriously, though... I think you're on the verge of becoming a monk or something. You want me to see if the hot teacher has any friends for you? And that goes for you, too, T... I'm gonna get you two to have some fun if it kills me."

Sean shook his head. "I don't know. Work, books, the state of the economy. The weather. I could go on..."
Whew... he narrowly missed that conversation. Damon seemed to go with it when he changed the subject. "And Merlin, I have fun."
Though really, if asked, he couldn't name the last time he'd done something for himself.
Except kissing Lydia.
"I don't want you to set me up, Damon. Your type is definitely not my type."

"If you like thinking about those things, then no, you aren't having fun," Damon snorted.
Really, what was he going to do with his friends? Left to their own devices, he was pretty sure Sean would work himself until he dropped, and T would get buried in a mound of books. At least Hayden was trying... now he just had to work on the other two.
"What type? I don't have a type... I like all girls." he paused and raised an eyebrow. "Sean, is there something you want to tell me?"

Sean paused and narrowed his eye ever so slightly at Damon. He was carefully choosing his response before saying it out loud.
He pointed at Nathalia. "Case in point- not my type. No offense, Hayden." They all knew Damon would have gone out with her if she let him. Sean was pleased that he seemed so jovial about her apparent interest in Hayden, instead. "I'm just saying, I don't want you trying to set me up." Then, as if thinking this might deter his friend further, he added, "I don't have time for any kind of relationship right now anyway. In fact, I should probably get back to the office in a bit here. There's a world of crime out there for me to fight." He flashed a smile and took a sip of his drink to show he was around for a while longer at least.

Damon rolled his eyes. "OK, Mr. Picky. But that's one girl, and doesn't prove anything. You'd like the teacher, I bet. She's everyone's type... But I'm not about to share, at least until I know if I have a chance with her."
He took another long drink from his glass and shook his head at Sean. "Seriously, Superman, I know you want to save the world and all, but I think the world can survive on its own for one evening. You seriously need to lighten up and have some fun. Come on, drink up. You're going to have some fun tonight, and that is final."
He began to scan the bar to see if there were any other girls around. As he saw it, Sean was in serious danger of becoming more boring than his brother Constantine, and Damon couldn't deal with any more that.

As it happened, Paige was just walking into the bar at that very moment. Her friend Caroline was supposed to meet her here shortly. The two of them didn't get out much, because Paige was usually busy with work and Caroline usually spent her evenings with her husband. But Jordan had a rare evening shift at the hospital, and Paige had finished her latest story early, so the timing worked out perfectly for a night out.
Stu's might have seemed an odd place for them to go on such an outing, but both Caroline and Paige knew Nathalia, so it seemed like a low-pressure place to go and talk and enjoy a few drinks.
Upon entering the bar, Paige took a quick look around, just to see if Caroline had arrived yet. Not seeing her, she walked over to the bar and sat down. She never noticed Sean, because his back was facing the door.
"Hi, Nat," she greeted the barmaid.

Sean rolled his eyes. Alcohol was not the way for him to loosen up. So far, somehow, he'd managed to keep his secret from his friends. Thus, he didn't do anything that lowered his state of awareness, as that left him completely susceptible to visions. Any more than this drink was not going to happen.
"Teacher sounds awfully tame for you. But let us know how it goes... I'll be pulling for you."
At exactly that moment, the door opened, and a very familiar head of brown hair walked in. He wasn't sure it was her until she scanned the area and he got a good profile of her. His first instinct was to call out and say hello, but he immediately thought better of it with Damon right across from him.
"I'll stay for a little while longer, just not late, all right?"

Nathalia, still a little offput by Hayden's request for a date, didn't even notice Paige come in at first, not until the girl called her name.
She glanced up from the register and her frown was quickly replaced by a wide smile. She liked Paige, a lot, though they only met at Roland's "funeral." They just seemed to hit it off well.
"Hey, Paige. Haven't seen you through here in quite a while. Taking a day off work, or just out early?" Paige probably had more drive in her life than anyone Nathalia knew, and she respected the brunette for that.

Damon broke into a wide grin when Paige walked in. Until then, Nathalia was the only girl even in the place.... he did not count the two elderly hags in the far corner cackling about something. But Paige, with her brown hair and long legs, looked like just the type for Sean.
He nodded his head in her direction as he grinned at Sean. "How 'bout her? She your type? I could see you with a brunette."

Sean blushed crimson when Damon said he would look good with a brunette, and Merlin help him, he thought of Lydia instantly. He was going to hex Damon for all of the embarrassment later. Just hex him dead.
"No... Not Paige." He realized his mistake in naming her just twenty seconds too late, and was quick to say more before his friend latched onto the fact that he knew this girl. "Damon, seriously, stop trying to set me up. I'm fine being single, okay? No girl deserves to come second to work, an she would right now."
Again, he thought of the healer at St Mungos. By now, it was quite apparent to him that he fancied her a lot. But he didn't want to hurt her. She already lost her family, her sister... She didnt need him abandoning her as well.
"Why is no one giving Hayden a hard time?" he finally asked, shooting his friend an apologetic glance.

"Hey, Paige. Haven't seen you through here in quite a while. Taking a day off work, or just out early?" Paige probably had more drive in her life than anyone Nathalia knew, and she respected the brunette for that. Paige's problem, of course, was that as driven as she was in her professional life, she was still just as chaotic and confused in her personal life. Austin's sincere interest in her still scared the hell out of her, and she felt like she had nothing to offer him. Sitting on the nearest barstool, Paige smiled at Nathalia, inadvertently revealing how tired she actually was. "I finished early today," she replied. "It was a slow news day, apparently... that's a good thing. But how have you been?"

But Sean's attempt to cover up his mistake was also too late. Even if he hadn't said the girl's name, just the way he'd said "not her" was enough to tell Damon that Sean knew this girl, and he was not about to let that go.
"Paige?" he repeated with a grin. "You know her already, do you? Well, Sean, it seems you've been holding out on us. There's a story there... you'd better spill it before I call her over here. And you know I will. For Salazar's sake, Sean, I never said anything about arranging your marriage or anything, I'm just trying to get you to loosen up and have some fun. Hayden gets a free pass, because he actually asked out a girl--one that I've failed with, by the way. But T--you've been sitting pretty quietly over there... don't think I've forgotten you. You're next. First, though, I need to get Sean sorted out. So out with it, what happened with you and Paige over there?"

"No, don't," Sean said, practically kicking himself for naming Paige. And really, she was a lovely girl- he wasn't saying anything bad about her at all. But their relationship, while friendly, seemed to be on a professional level only.
"She and I have worked together a couple of times, if you must know. She works for the Daily Prophet and she was covering the death of that Auror, Roland Ferrera. That's all. And she's a great girl... just not for me."
He wondered when Damon would catch on that Sean was going to say no to every girl that he pointed out- and if he'd be lucky enough that no more girls would come in tonight. "And I think that free pass is dragon's dung. We should be all over Hayden for this. But good on you, mate. I'm glad you asked her."
