"Most definitely," Sean replied without hesitation. Damon, loose in a zoo, with kids under his watch and care? No. That, and this girl he would obviously be distracted by. "You'd let some poor first year get eaten by a hippogriff."
His expression softened, and he gave Damon a quiet look to let him know he was just joking. "But you should get a hold of her soon... let her know either way and see her again. Sounds like she was obviously interested, right? Speaking of..." He looked at Hayden and nudged him.
"Why are you still here? Go refill our drinks. Ask her if she has a sister for T."

"Okay, I'm going," Hayden said looking at Sean with a half amused half nervous look. He was going to tell the excuse of him wanting to hear what Damon had to say, but he knew that his friend was not going to buy that.
Before he left, Hayden glanced at all 3 of his friends and then made his way to the bar. It all honesty he was a little nervous. He wasn't exactly sure how to approach Nathalia, but maybe it was just better if he didn't think about it.
Reaching the bar, Hayden placed one arm on the bar as Nathalia helped another man on the other end. For a moment he glanced at her. She really was pretty and Hayden had no idea what he was doing. "Hey Nathalia," he said when she was closer.

Nathalia was hyper aware of everything that the table of four boys was doing. She rather thought she wouldn't see Hayden again, and not only had she come to terms with it, she was okay with it too.
While she was pouring a drink for the guy at the end of the bar, and laughing and flirting with him while she did, she was aware of Hayden at the other end of the bar. When she finally made her way to him, she kept up with the "act like nothing happened" charade. "Hey you," she said, setting a hand on her hip and the other on the bar, careful not to lean towards him. "Time for a refill already?!

Hayden knew that she was acting like nothing happened, and he could attempt to do the same. It was harder than it looked however. He smiled as he placed his other arm on the bar and leaned forward a little on his arms.
"Yeah, time for another refill," he said with the smile still on his face. "I know everyone wants the same thing." For a moment, he glanced over his shoulder at the boys, then back to her. "How are you Nathalia?"

Nathalia glanced back at the table reminding herself what each of them had. "Bugger if I can remember what I put in Damon's drink," she said with a little laugh, filling two glasses with firewhiskey first.
She tried not to look up at his question, which came while she was making his drink. She tried not to react at all. Thus was ridiculous, she told herself. It did not have to be awkward. She was making it awkward. "Good. Been busy, which is rare around here, so.... yeah. How are you?"
When all the drinks were poured, she set them on a round tray and pushed it gently towards Hayden. "I'll come get the empty glasses in a second."

"Good. Not a whole of work going on at the moment," he responded. He looked at the tray of glasses she placed in front of him. Hayden thought for a split second. He should just ask. That would be what Damon or Sean would probably do.
Clearing his throat for a moment, it was sort of apparent that he was a little nervous. "Nathalia," he started disregarding the fact that there was a tray of glasses in front of him. "What are you doing Tuesday night?"

Well, that got her attention. Nathalia stopped whether she was doing, looking up at him, and then letting her eyes move to the table behind him. They seemed to be in their own conversation, but she suspected they were watching out of the corners of their eyes.
"Working," she answered truthfully, eyes back to Hayden. She left out That her shift ended at 8. What game was he playing? He made it pretty clear last time that he wasn't interested.

Nathalia didn't automatically shut him down, so that meant she had to be interested in wondering why he was asking. Hayden didn't bother to look back at his friends because he knew if he did he would probably lose confidence.
"What time do you get off Tuesday night," he asked feeling a little more confident. Of course the worse thing she could do would just flat out tell him no, but she hadn't done that yet. That did let a little confidence build.

So he didn't take that as a no... she was intrigued, to say the least. But she had been stung last time they did this, too. He shut her down, so what was the deal with this?
Her other hand came to rest on the bar as though she were bracing herself. "Eight." She tilted her head a little. He didn't look malicious. In fact, he looked just a little nervous. She crossed her arms over her chest. "What's this about, Hayden? I'm not particularly keen on a repeat of last timeif you catch my meaning."
She wasn't trying to be rude, but she had to look out for herself, too.

Hayden knew that Nathalia would be sort of guarded as a result of last time. He couldn't really blame her. He did figure out what she was going for, but he wasn't wanting the same thing. It wasn't that he didn't want her, it was just he didn't want to go about it that way.
"Would you like to go to dinner on Tuesday night after you get off?" Now the question was out. It could go really good and she would accept, or it could go completely the opposite way and she turn him down. Hayden wasn't exactly sure what his reaction would be either way, but he hoped that she would go with the first option of yes.

For a long moment, Nathalia didn't say anything. She was working all of this over in her head. She couldn't reason why he wanted to take her to dinner, and the best she could do was.... ask.
"Are you asking me on a date?" She said, the uncertainty clear in her voice, and she shook her head. "I mean... why?"

The uncertainty in her voice was something Hayden hadn't quite expected. It allowed to see her vulnerable side, which was something not too many people had the chance to see.
"I am asking you out on a date," he said confidently. Hayden stood a little taller, not leaning on the bar as much. He let his arm just rest on the bar. "Because, I want to have a dinner date with you," he said simply. "Just that simple."

She glanced at his friends again. They still weren't looking, which meant that Hayden hadn't been coerced into this by them, nor was he showing off to them. Her eyes moved back to Hayden. "Just that simple," she repeated, obviously not believing it. She didn't know why she was so distrusting of this.
She had never actually been on a date. Or asked on one. She didn't actually know what to do. "You know... I'm gonna be honest. You made it pretty clear last time that you weren't interested. What's with the change of heart?"

"I never said I wasn't interested," Hayden said raising an eyebrow. "I just wasn't interested in what was going on at that moment. I wasn't expecting that." He did expect her to possibly second guess why he was asking her, especially what happened between them before.
"I am interested," he said bluntly, "but not just in one thing. I want to take you to dinner. A simple dinner date."

Nathalia opened her mouth to say something when he told her he wasn't interested in what had been happening at that moment, but she shut it quickly when he continued. Now she was just more confused... he wanted to take her to dinner, but he had no interest in sleeping with her? Then what was the end game? She just didn't understand because she'd never dealt with a guy who wanted anything but sex from her.
And Hayden seemed to just... want her company. Did she even have anything interesting to say to him? Ah, Merlin, now she was getting nervous.
"Okay." She finally just agreed before she made him stand there too long, and she tried to let the look on her face soften.

It had become apparent that Nathalia had no idea what to really say. He had surprised her by asking her out on a date and Hayden was surprised to figure out that maybe this didn't happen very often.
A smile appeared on Hayden's face as she agreed to the date. "Great," he responded. "I promise, it's not going to be all that bad. Just think of this as a start over." Hayden had a place in mind to go. Of course, he hadn't done the whole date thing in awhile, but he could handle it. "Besides, you might even enjoy yourself. I can pick you up here, or I can pick you up at your apartment, it's up to you."

The only other person she could think of that actually asked her out was Hayden's friend Damon, but even that was mostly in jest, and she couldn't count it.
A start over. A way that they could pretend that the other night never happened, and maybe, if this dinner date went well, Nathalia could stop that pain in her gut at being denied. Because she was told no as often as she was asked on a date. Hayden was just batting a thousand here.
"Uhm... here would be fine. Say 8:30 so I can change, anyway. Oh... do I need to wear something really nice, or...?"

It was a newer experience, Hayden could tell, but he would just go with it. He had a feeling that the dinner would go fairly well. Of course, he thought about maybe getting advice from Roland, but Hayden figured that Roland had enough to deal with at the moment so he would just figure it all out on his own.
"Wear something decently nice. It doesn't have to be anything extremely elegant, like something that you might wear to a ball, but something still nice." He was going to send out a few owls later to make sure things could be set up the way he planned.

Without realizing, Nathalia made a face. A slight one, mostly just thinking. He was overexplaining to her what to wear, and she didn't know if he was concerned she didn't know what 'nice' was, or if he was nervous.
No, that wasn't true. She didn't think he was passing judgment on her. She needed to lighten up and give the guy a break. She just still wasn't sure why he was doing this. If he didn't want to sleep with her, what did he want? What was he looking for? It bothered her that she couldn't figure this out when she was so good at reading people. "Okay," she said at length, and then almost laughed. "Well, congratulations... you've officially surprised me, Hayden."

Realizing that he almost stumbled over his words, Hayden scratched his the back of his neck. He was just nervous, that was the thing. If Damon had been over there, he was pretty sure he would have teased him a little for still being a little nervous.
A smile spread across his face as she said that he had surprised her. "That's not a bad thing," he commented. "You'll enjoy yourself Tuesday night, I promise."
