Fiona, however, was blissfully ignorant of the attention attracted by her boss. Not that she would have been surprised by it. On the contrary, she was completely, painfully aware of just how attractive Augustus Rookwood was, and she fully expected that all females would see what she could see. She just wasn't aware of the women who were already moving closer to them in the hopes of catching his attention. She was just much too conscious of the fact that she was here, in a very public place, with the man she most desired to see in a more intimate, private location. Her cheeks were flushed, and as she took a sip of her club soda, she found herself wishing that she had ordered something alcoholic, just to calm her nerves a little.
She took another look around, and her eyes fell on a beautiful, slightly older blonde woman who was moving towards them. She didn't realize that Augustus was the object of her attention, but she did recognize the lustful look in her eyes. Not far from her, however, was a tall, skinny, pale man who seemed fixed on the blonde. It was all very shocking and scandalous... the darkness of lust and passion. Where was the love?

Arystar contemplated his next move. He could go over to Shawna and try to get her attention back, or he could just try and find someone else. He leaned heavily toward ignoring her and finding some else that wasn't so...but he didn't like the feeling of being brushed off either. He both desired her and was repulsed by her, to say the least it was confusing. Alcohol was urging him to go up to her and be bold, so he made his choice to go after her. He began his stride toward her.

Shawna had nearly reached the handsome stranger and his insignificant little companion. She hesitated for only a moment, trying to determine how to rid herself of the tiny brunette obstacle. In the end, she decided to slide in between the two of them under the guise of ordering a drink. After all, her martini from earlier had been lost in her attempt to ensnare Arystar.
She approached the bar and slipped in between the brunette and the man, leaning slightly towards the man as she winked at the bartender. "Another martini, Tony," she said in her warm-honey voice.

It might not have bothered Fiona so much if the woman had said a simple "excuse me." Fiona didn't exactly get out all that often--or at all, really--but she knew about common courtesy. This woman either didn't know or didn't care. Judging from the looks of her, Fiona was guessing the latter. For as little as she got out, Fiona was capable of making observations about people. And her observation of this woman was that she knew just exactly how beautiful she was and how men would react to that beauty. And she used it to her advantage.
Fiona cleared her throat, fully intending to make an angry remark to the woman. But her courage failed her, and all she managed was a weak, "Um, excuse me..."

"Yes, excuse her." he said coming behind Shawna to the sweet faced brunette as Shawna had skillfully cut off from her date. "It seems I can't leave you alone for a moment." he said to Shawna, He stood looking at her. He looked tall and very smooth, like the magic of alcohol had made his clothes fall in just the right places, his hair had the right kind fall in front of his eyes and he looked darkly gorgeous. Not that he was aware, he just didn't think she could just walk away from him just because he had a moment of hesitation. He also didn't like that she stuck herself in between two people that had come into together, even if the Wizard was appreciatively looking at Shawna. He could pick apart what was really feeling later, right now he was acting.

Shawna rolled her eyes at the handsome man next to her and turned slowly to face Arystar. She had to admit, he looked pretty good. But he was skittish and odd, and with a better prospect in her sights, she was not really in the mood to play with the foolish boy.
"Oh, are you back for more?" she asked innocently. "I'm sorry, pumpkin, but the moment has passed. I'm sure you can find someone more your speed. Why don't you just run along?"

Pumpkin was like a spear to his heart, well more like his pride. Despite being regularly awkward and shy, he still had his pride! He narrowed his eyes and nodded "Just as well, I don't normally just apperate into bed like I'm sure you're used to." Of course he realized a second too late after he said it, that it was the most horrible thing to say! What he had meant to say that he wasn't as fast as she was, but that was equally as rude. He tried to quickly correct his mistake. "Ah I didn't mean that." but in a second he was just as awkward as when he first walked in, he put a hand to his neck and started again "What I meant to say was that not that you're fast, it's that I'm too... ah " he floundered on what word he could use to describe himself, he didn't want to say slow, that implied that he was stupid. He might as well of said that for the look she shot him.

Augustus had actually been quite amused by the entire thing since he first noticed the blonde bombshell walking toward him and Fiona. And now this other guy was fighting for her attention, and she was blatantly shoving him off. Augustus rather liked what this did to his ego.
When the guy insulted her, Augustus chuckled... a rumbling sound from in his throat, and he finally turned his gaze to the two of them. The look he gave the girl said that he wouldn't mind playing for a bit if she could get rid of the other guy, and the look he gave Arystar was something akin to, "You are so gonna get it."

Shawna raised her eyebrows at him. While his implication was not entirely off the mark, that didn't make it less insulting. Clearly the alcohol had made the shy wallflower turn bold. She wasn't entirely sure she liked it. She certainly didn't appreciate his saucy remarks.
Lifting her chin as if insulted, she pulled back and slapped his face. "How dare you," she said in a venomous tone. "Just because I've decided we weren't right for each other, you have to insult me. And to think, I thought you were a gentleman!"

Arystar felt her hand smack him hard across the face. He was sure he had a big red hand shaped mark on his cheek. Women were so mean! she had been subtly insulting him since they started talking and he slips up once and now he wasn't a gentleman! his ego deflated like a day old party balloon. His nose actually started to run a little and he sniffled. "Ah hadn't meant that!" He had actually felt badly for speaking before thinking, and hated the idea that because of that he had actually hurt someone's feelings "I apologize." and with that he turned and started to leave the immediate area. He was mentally kicking himself for not only being a prick, but not even managing how to continue acting like a prick. He was sure he looked as foolish as a boy, no wonder she kept calling him pumpkin. He felt like an enormous boulder with the words 'childish prick' was sitting on his head.

Fiona watched all of this nervously. She didn't quite know what to make of the dark-haired man, but personally, she rather suspected his remark about the blonde was spot on. There was something about the woman that just seemed to scream "tramp!" But Fiona supposed that if she looked like that woman, she would have down everything she could to flaunt it, too.
And maybe then Augustus would notice her.
Fiona wasn't completely naive. She didn't know why Augustus had brought her here tonight, but she was pretty sure it wasn't because he wanted to take her into his warm, strong, muscular arms and sweep her off her feet. She also hadn't missed the interested look he had given the blonde. But how could she blame him? If he could have a woman that looked like that, why would he choose her? It would have been like choosing a bologna sandwich over filet mignon.
As the dark-haired man walked away, Fiona glanced at Augustus, and, noticing that his attention was on the blonde, she slipped out of her seat and went after the other man.
"You know," she said in a nervous, breathy voice, "You shouldn't have apologized to her. Maybe it's not my place, but I... I think you were spot on. She seemed like a tramp.... and she's very rude."

Arystar turned as he heard the hesitant voice, the red hand print on his face burned more with shame than pain. He did feel better knowing that he wasn't wrong about Shawna, but it was still very rude. "Thank you for saying that, but she was right. It was very rude of me to say that to her. not that it pardons her for breaking up your date." He said it mournfully. He was a little glad that he wasn't going to have to follow through with Shawna, but it proved that he wasn't ready to deal with people in such an environment. "I'm not used to this sort of place or these sort of dealings." he added trying to make it clear he didn't usually make it his past time to do this sort of thing.

Fiona's lip twisted. "It's not a date," she said sadly. Casting a wistful glance at Augustus, she sighed. "I wish it were, but it's not. It's supposed to be for business, although I can't imagine what kind. Or why he needed me for it. You see... he's my boss. I just work for him."
And she loved him. But this man didn't need to know that. It wasn't like it actually mattered, anyway. He didn't love her. How could he? She was just a pale, awkward, mousy little thing. What right did she have even hoping that he would look at her as anything but an employee?
"I... uh... I'm not very good at this sort of thing, either," she admitted. "I don't get out much."

Arystar's face frowned "Your boss? Here? and he's just letting you go to talk with her? How cold!" He felt badly for her, she came here with a hope and it was dashed, he came in here out of curiosity. His self pity dried up and didn't look so wretched. Despite that horrible moniker that Shawna had given him, he wasn't a pumpkin and he wasn't going to act like one either. "You and I are a little alike...were both out of our element...that is to say if I even have one. I'm not sure actually." his head dipped a little in a bow, but he picked his head up again and gave her a smile. "My name is Arystar Cory the third, It's a pleasure to meet you." and he held out his hand to her. He wasn't trying to win any points anymore, he was just trying to be polite. He had already forgotten his manners to many times this night anyway.

Fiona shrugged, but her eyes were sad. "Yeah, well... If I were him, I'd probably ditch me in favor of her, too. I'm out of his league, you know? I don't really blame him."
Fiona was actually not capable of blaming Augustus for anything. If he would rather be with the gorgeous blonde tramp than with her, then Fiona assumed it must have been some fault of her own. She wasn't pretty enough, she wasn't elegant enough, she wasn't interesting enough.
But she identified with Arystar a little bit. He may have been more blunt with the blonde than Fiona was ever capable of being, but she sensed a similarity in their social awkwardness.
"It's nice to meet you, Arystar," she said. "I'm Fiona. My friends call me Fi." She let out a nervous giggle at that. "Actually, I don't really have any friends. I've just always wanted to say that."

Arystar let out a short laugh, she struck him as cute, cuter than the woman that had tried to ensnare him earlier. "I like that, Fi, it's cute." he smiled at her in his warm and awkward way. "If he was smart he would leave her alone too, She's like dealing with Devil's snare or something else that's generally bad." He had lost his Alcohol smoothness, he was starting to sober up a little, It was a strange feeling it was like stepping on land after being on a boat. He knew he could easily start feeling the same sway, but he tried to keep his thoughts more or less ordered. "She gives off that feeling...She's a bit older too isn't she?" he said looking back at her and paid attention to the creases around her mouth and eyes. "She must use some smoothing potion or something." he said scrutinizing them a second before turning back to 'Fi'.

"I think Mr. Rookwood can probably handle her," she said. "He kind of... well, women tend to flock to him. He really could have anyone he wanted."
She thought of Rookwood as being quite invincible. He never betrayed an emotion or showed an ounce of weakness. If anything, the woman was probably more likely to be hurt than he was. But even if Rookwood broke her heart, Fiona would have considered her lucky, because for that one brief shining moment, he would have been hers.
Of course, this was all speculation. Nothing at all had happened yet. But Fiona felt it was only a matter of time.
After casting one more longing look at Augustus, she turned back to Arystar. "She does seem a bit older... maybe it's just from the lifestyle. I don't know. She's still beautiful... but poisonous. Like oleander."

Arystar wrinkled his nose. He didn't like oleander, his grandfather had a small shrub of it, it smelled bad to him as a child, that and he was scolded for wanting to pick at it. At least magical plants listened to him. Muggle ones would be just as deadly and never look any more dangerous. "I think she is Oleander." He frowned, she seemed so obsessed with her boss. "I don't know, I think he's a little on the disheveled side, not very clean cut either." and crossed his arms over his chest. He thought it would be funny if someone disagreed with her assessment that her boss could have anyone he wanted.

There wasn't much one could do to get on Fiona's bad side. She was used to taking whatever crap was piled on her from anyone. She was the classic pushover, a Pollyanna.
Except when someone she loved was being put down. Fiona had no family, no friends, no one... except for the boss who she worshipped like a god. Putting him down was the one thing Fiona could not accept.
"Are you kidding?" she said incredulously. "He's beautiful! He's perfect! He's a god among men. Just look at him.... if he would only look at me as something more than a pitiful little office drudge, I'd be the happiest woman alive."

Bad luck! he sighed and shook his head "No way! besides the point is moot because he's a man!" Arystar was seriously starting to think maybe he was hideous. He sighed and looked toward the door. "I don't think a person like that can make anyone happy." he said it quietly really frowning. what could he say? He didn't know the man, but he knew he couldn't be so kind if he cast people aside like Fiona and used them. He was seriously going to head back to his room in the Leaky Cauldron, He didn't think he could stand to meet anyone else tonight if it kept going this way.
