Jackie felt better when Dean wrapped his arm around her. She still couldn't help but notice that Zoe looked very pretty, and the smiled the girl gave her was not returned. Not yet, anyway. She listened, biting her tongue to keep from interjecting, and wondering just where Zoe was going with all of this. Maybe Dean wasn't the type to hold a grudge, but Jackie was a jealous person. She hated that about herself, but at least she could admit it. By the end, she had at least dropped her arms to her side and sighed. "I know how great he is," she said softly, leaning into him so he would know she meant it. Zoe could see that Jackie didn't trust her. And how could she blame the girl? The last conversation between them had been very unfriendly. She cleared her throat. "Anyway, um... that was all I wanted to say. Just that... and I'm sorry. To both of you. I won't try to stand in your way or anything. I wish we could be friends, but after everthing that happened, I'll understand if we can't."

As expected, it didn't take Jeremy and Nolan very long to get ready, and they had spent the last hour loungng in the common room. Julia was to come downstairs to meet with Nolan, and Jeremy was supposed to go over to Ravenclaw Tower to meet with Alenna.
Glancing at his watch, Jeremy looked over at Nolan. "Reckon I ought to head over to get Alenna now?" he asked. He couldn't quite hide the nervous quiver in his voice.

He hid the smile that wanted to appear on his face as Jackie leaned into him. Dean knew that things were more than likely going to be similar to how they were before. He also knew that Jackie didn't like Zoe at all.
"Well, I appreciate your apology Zoe," Dean spoke up. He was not one to hold grudges. Forgiveness was better than holding it in. He could forgive, but forgetting was a whole other ball park. "And maybe we can start off really small and then build back up to friends. That would be alright I think." Dean looked down to Jackie, with his arms still around her. He wanted to make sure that she knew that she was the only one he ever wanted more than friends.

Zoe took a breath. Dean's forgiveness was important to her, but so was Jackie's. She wanted to start with a clean slate, and to do that, she needed to put aside the ugliness from her past. But she had been so horrible, she wasn't sure she deserved Jackie's forgiveness. She certainly wouldn't have blamed the girl if she couldn't forgive her.
"Thanks, Dean. I really would like that. And... Jackie... I know you don't like me. I don't blame you. I wasn't very likeable for a while there. But I really am sorry for what I did. I just... I kind of lost it there for a while."

Gage fidled with his dress robes over and over. He felt kind of dumb all dressed up like this, being so used to his casual robes. But he figured he was also really nervous about bringing a date, especially Lily, to the ball. The advice Logan had given him played in his head once and a while and it gave him a little comfort. "Alrighty Gage," he said to himself. "Let's go." He left the second year dorm and walked through the common room and headed toward Gryffindor tower, where he planned to meet Lily outside.

Lily's knees were knocking together as she got ready for the dance. Her dress was made of beautiful sea green satin and swept over one shoulder, leaving the other bare. At the waist, it puffed out into a full skirt, but it stopped at her knees. Her shoes had a small heel and matched the dress exactly.
But her hair was what she was most pleased about. The soft red curls were now pinned up in a sort of crown at her head, showing off the milky white skin on her face. It was a striking contrast, and she looked older than her years.
Her breathing was uneven as she stepped out of the common room to wait for Gage.

Sin had waited in the Gryfindor common room for Bek to get ready. He had a lot on his mind but he was determined to enjoy himself tonight. He knew that Jackie would be at the ball and he had promised that he would dance with her and do his best to be a mediator between her and Dean, he knew that Reese would in all likelihood do the same. He didn't know what to think about Dean and Jackie and their problems, but he understood that there was a lot of miscommunication, and now more than ever after the attack it was time for bonding, time for moving on and finding ways to be at peace again.
Although peace wasn't something that Sin could find so easily, it was hard for him to accept his own feelings, and own up to certain truths, he knew he couldn't hide from Alyx forever, and he felt guilty about what happened at Hogsmeade. Then there was Gwen, he didn't really know what he felt for her other than a blind terror when he let her get too close, that was part of the problem, although it didn't seem to big what with everything else going on. He also had a lovely vivacious date that he was taking to the ball tonight, and he was fully set on lavishing her with attention and singing her praises, he felt so comfortable with Bek, and that was due mostly to the fact that they were friends pure and simple, there was no threat to his heart.
He smiled and offered Bek his arm knowing that she would probably want to go find Seth and Maxi if they were there. They were an odd foursome from the different houses no less but he admired her for breaking out of the norm.
"Ready to take on the world?" he asked.

Gage saw Lily step out of her common room and smiled, blushing a little when he saw how beautiful she looked that evening. He qickly walked over to her and grinned wider. "Lily, you look great," he said, hoping that he'd stop blushing soon.

Tyler finished tying his shoes and smoothed out his dress robes. He was pretty excited about taking Ophelia to the dance. Was he nervous like everyone else? Not really. The only thing that he was worried about was the fact that Ophelia's brother was going to be there. He hoped that nothing happened.
He promised to meet her outside her common room to escort her into the Great Hall. Tyler was eager to see how Ophelia dressed up. He was pretty sure that she would nearly make him fall over, or just look like an idiot.
His hair wasn't doing what he wanted it to do, so he just left it as it was. There was no sense in putting in a lot of gel.
Making his way to the entrance of the Slytherin Common Room, Tyler's hands made it into his pockets. A lot of what-if questions entered his mind, but he tried to chase them away with images of what the night might hold. Standing straight, Tyler reached up and fixed his tie while he waited with a little bit of anxiousness.

Gryffin finished fixing his bow tie, he grinned at him self in the mirror. He loved his bow tie, if he could get away with it he would wear one more often, but the fear of getting beaten up was always around. He was going a black robe with a crimson red bow tie to match. He felt slightly mischievous which just put a slight jump in his step. He headed down the stairs to meet Zoe, he saw her in talking to Dean and saw Dean holding on to Jackie. 'Uh-oh' he thought to himself and jumped into a slightly faster stride towards them.
"Hey Zoe," he said once he got closer. He figured pulling her away from that situation would be best. He gave a slight nod to Dean, he didn't really know him but most guys seemed to get along.

After Christine, Sam, and Alyx were finished, they parted ways. Samantha had to meet up with the other Champions, although Alyx clung to her side, at least for a small while, but Christine set her straight. They had given Alyx a mask even though this wasn't a masquerade. It set her apart, made her different from the crowd, and of course it made her a mystery, and who could resist one of those?
She smiled at her handiwork then left Alyx alone telling her to arrive after the Champion's began their dance and most people were already there. Then she went to look for her brother, looking for all the world like a satisfied imp.

Samantha's dainty steps seemed to eat up the ground as she walked toward her date. Nicolas was impeccable as always and she was really quite proud of him for how handsome he looked, and that he had taken time out of his schedule to attend this affair with her. She tried to put Dorian out of her mind and had been successful, for a few moments anyway. What right did he have in making her feel guilty?
She'd see him tonight, and they'd go on as polite acquaintances she was positive. Then with a sigh, she tried once more to blott him out of her mind.
"I think the champions are supposed to meet over there.." she said pointing in a direction she hoped was right.

There had been a part of her that still sort of expected him not to show up, leaving her to look like a fool in front of Jackie and Dean. But he was there, and he looked nice. "Hi, Gryffin," she said. "Um, this is Dean, and this is Jackie. This is Gryffin. My date." She took a breath, as if trying to fortify herself for something. "We'll... we'll leave you alone now. I'm sorry again. I hope you have a nice time." She stepped toward Gryffin and put her hand in his. "I guess... let's go?"

Gryffin gave a grin and a slight nod to both of them as he was introduced. Gryffin noticed her stuttering around and he felt for her. He gave her a reassuring look. She put her hand in his and he gave it a slight squeeze. Gryffin nodded at her when she asked if they should go and lead her across the room.
"Would you like to talk about it," he asked when they had gotten far enough away to be out of earshot.

Zoe let out a heavy sigh and looked over her shoulder at Dean and Jackie. They looked happy together, and she was just going to have to accept that they belonged together. A part of her still longed for Dean, but she had messed that up too badly. And maybe it had never really been meant to be in the first place.
Shrugging, she looked back at Gryffin. "What's there to say?" she asked. "I loved him. Maybe I still do, but he doesn't feel the same. He loves Jackie, and they belong together. When I was with him... I had my nose buried too far in the books to give him what he really needed."

Brynn blushed as she looked at herself in the mirror. Her dress was a light shade of purple, nothing that would stand out too much. Even if she was hanging out with Sirius, Remus, Peter, and James more, she was still extremely shy. She simply left her hair straight and smiled. Happy with her apperence, she slipped on her silver flatts and walked out of her dorm. Seeing that her date, Remus, wasn't out of his dorm yet, she sat on a chair by the fire and watched the other girls and boys come out and greet each other.

Julia was dressed and ready rather quickly. Her dress was black and knee length with a red pattern at the bottom. It was one shouldered and it fit her well. She let her blonde hair fall around her shoulders in their natural loose curls. Finally finished, She walked out of her room and stopped outside Nolan and Jeremy's.
"Are you two ready yet?" she asked, banging on the door.

Unlike Jeremy, he was taking his time and being very carefree about the process. It was just a dance, afterall. "I guess that's a yes," he said to Jeremy, going to the door and opening it. He gave Julia a wide smile. "You always steal my breath away when you get all dolled up, Ju."

Jackie felt bad about still being wary of Zoe, and she was quiet while the girl apologized. She let Dean do the talking for both of them. She could apologize all she wanted, but she was still the girl who warned her off and tried to steal her boyfriend. You didn't just make instant friends with a person like that. Zoe was a girl, and socially awkward as she was, she had to understand that.
She appreciated that Dean was holding her during this conversation, and while teh idea of Dean and Zoe being friends bothered her, she would never say so to Dean.
As she walked away with Gryffin, Jackie looked back at Dean. "Are you okay?"

Her dress was gold and strapless and it flowed down to the floor. She was glad it fit well, she had to make it herself, and with Maxi's help, she could say she looked pretty good. She walked down the stairs from her dormatory and smiled as she met Sin at the bottom of the stairs. "Well aren't you dashing," Bek said with a wide smile and she took his arm. She was happy to have a friend like Sin to go with tonight. The last thing she needed these days was any excess drama. "Ready when you are," She said.
