Lyra had not felt up to going with the others into Hogsmeade today. She hadn't felt up to doing much of anything lately, though she was finding comfort in Ethan's company, which helped. But a crowded day of shopping and sugar highs were not what she needed. And it was such a lovely day that she wagered she could handle a few stray students in the courtyard.
The snow crunched under her feet as she made her way from the castle. There were others had had opted to refrain from going into Hogsmeade and as Lyra passed she heard some of them mumbling about a "bad feeling". I'd have a bad feeling too if I left the common room looking like that, she thought as she passed a sixth year Hufflepuff in desperate need of a comb. Lyra looked about, seeing if anyone she cared to chat with had stayed behind and wandered out here at the same time.

Collin watched in amusement as a group of 3rd years tripped and trodded their way through the snow on the way to Hogsmeade. Though invited by his friends to join them to the villiage, Collin had the awkward feeling that he didn't belong there that afternoon. So he decided to stay behind and find some other form of entertainment for the day.
Across the grounds, Collin saw Lyra walking along and he decided to catch up with her. "Hey Lyra," Collin said. "Long time no see," he said with a smile, though the housemates and yearmates saw each other nearly everyday, they hadn't talked much. Collin was intent on changing that. "How've you been?"

Hearing her name being called, Lyra turned around, nearly slipping in the snow. Steadying herself her cheeks flushed and she gave an embarrassed grin. "Wotcher Collin. I've been...alright." She hesitated on the last word, as it was starting to become the truth but she wasn't used to it yet. "Not going on the Hogsmeade trip?"

Collin didn't catch Lyra's hesitation, he was never very good at it. So he went ahead and answered his question. "Eh, didn't feel like it. I have better things to do," Collin answered. he didn't want to tell her about his feeling to stay far away from Hogsmeade, because it did sound pretty stupid, even to him. He did slightly wish he had mentioned it to Jamie, who was there with his sister now. "What about you?" Collin asked in return. "Not going either?"

Angelo was not in favor of going to Hogsmeade today, he was tired from studying last night for a potions test that he had to make up in a week or two. He saw two people looking as if they were just walking, but he didn't want to disturb them. He'd probably ask if he could join them in a few minutes.

Julian and Nicolas were at the school today. Julian saw a budding attraction between his current interest and another slytherin and felt a pang. He remembered school, and how fleeting these things were, but he liked Lyra, genuinely liked her. It didn't matter though, as long as she was happy and confident again, then he had done his job well. He nudged Nicolas in the ribs as he spotted Lyra talking to someone else whom he couldn't recognize with his back to him.
Nicolas was in all likelihood looking for Samantha so Lyra was his best bet.
They made their way over.

Julian didn't know Collin, but Nicolas did. Well knew his father anyway and had been at a few social engagements where the boy was likely to have been, he gave his signature grin and nodded to Collin then to Lyra whom he had heard about only through Sam and Julian, but Nicolas doubted Lyra knew who he was. For the moment he was just there to observe, let Julian make the conversation until he could ask where Samantha was.

Lyra had heard that Rystain and Lani might be going to Hogsmeade together, so she most certainly did not want to go and chance running into them without the protection of feigning schoolwork. "No. I ...err... figured I'd have more luck finishing my homework if I stayed here. Guess I was wrong." She gave a cool shrug of her shoulders, two figures catching her eye as she did so. She turned and saw that one of those figures was Julian. The other man she didn't know. She smiled at her pretend lover as he made his way over.

"Yea, Sorry to mess that up for you," Collin said, not really sorry at all. Spending the day inside while everyone else was out having fun did not sound very appeasing at all.
Collin saw the two approaching them as well and turned. The one Lyra smiled at Collin didn't know, but the other one, Nicholas Everhart, Collin was sure he ad met a some sort of function or something his father had dragged his children to. "Hello," he said with a smile. He had a suspicious feeling, but he'd been getting those a lot and they never meaned anything anyway.

Nicolas nodded, "Nice seeing you again Collin." then to Lyra, " Miss Newbury, Samantha speaks very highly of you." he smiled softly that irresistible smile of his, "To say nothing of this guy." he grinned his eyes indicating Julian had talked about her in favorable means.
"You wouldn't happen to know where Samantha is do you?"

"She's in Hogsmeade today," Lyra answered, a little bewildered. She looked sideways at Julian before looking back to the other man and asking, "And you are?"

"Nicolas Everhart." he said extending a hand to take hers, "I'm an acquaintance of Samantha's."
I'm her fiance, Nick wanted to say but knew only too well how much Sam would kill him for that remark. Instead he used his smile and good manners to kiss the back of her hand. He didn't linger, his entire motion purely gentlemanlike.

"Oh. Yet another acquaintance. She has so many," Lyra commented, once she had her hand back. "Pleasure to meet you Nicolas. And how do you two know each other?" she asked Collin. Then, realizing she hadn't introduced Julian she added, "Oh, sorry. Julian this is Collin."

Julian's smile twitched a bit at Lyra's innocent remark about how many acquaintances Samantha had and what it did to Nicolas' constitution, though he'd never show it.
"Pleasure to meet you." he said extending his hand when Lyra introduced him. Julian wouldn't be that well known here, though he was known in France well enough. Nicolas on the other hand was a name in the industry, so he was well known, enough anyway.

"Likewise," Collin replied, shaking Julian's hand. "Collin Borgin," he introduced himself before dropping the other mans hand. "Nick and I met through my parent's work," Collin said, deciding to avoid boring details. "What brings you to Hogwarts," Collin asked, wondering if there was more to their schedual than Samantha Montgomery.

Judging by that creep Rafe's responses to Samantha, and the feeling with which Julian spoke of her when Lyra first met him, there probably was very little more than Samantha Montgomery on Nicolas' schedule. Prior to their buddy friendship Lyra might have been jealous of Sam, spreading rumours behind her back and giving back handed compliments to her face. But Sam had quickly become Lyra's best friend and she could only think that it must be impossible to be Samantha Montgomery with everyone following you around all the time. Though...the money must be nice.
"Julian, I need to speak with you later about the Yule Ball. Remind me, won't you?" She set her hand on his arm and smiled at him. She doubted he would care at all that she had another date for the dance, but just in case she wanted to speak with him privately. However, most of the time that he was around she was pretending to be in love with him which, while she could definitely see a possible future attraction, was not currently the case. Feigning feelings was so much more effort when you weren't trying to seduce someone.

Nicolas simply liked to keep an eye on her, it was something he was used to doing ever since she was a little girl, and he knew better than anybody what a ticking time bomb Sam was. She was wound so tight and confused about everything what with her mother being dead and these new wings that Samantha had acquired. Nicolas knew she needed to be watched.
He shrugged, " Visiting." he answered.

"Visiting" Julian said although with more humor in his eyes as he wrapped an arm around Lyra and held her close at his side.
When she requested a private meeting his mouth quirked to a smile and he nodded.
He really did enjoy spending time with her. He worried that he might be getting too attached but at the same time reminded himself of that impossibility, he would help her move on, and they would part as friends.

She gladly molded herself to Julian's side and tilted her head so that it rested against his shoulder. He was no Rystain, but he comforted her and made her feel nearly as safe.
The way Nicolas said 'visiting' made Lyra imagine he was only visiting for a certain someone. But the way Julian had said the same word made her think he didn't have the same agenda, if any, as Nicolas. "You didn't go to school here," she commented to Nicolas. "Where did you attend?" She assumed he too was from France, England was overran with Frenchmen. But she was not sure, and it never hurt to ask.

"As a matter of fact, I did attend Hogwarts for a time." he smiled casually, " It was only for a year however and I kept to myself mostly. Otherwise I was schooled at a variety of places, my family was always moving and I moving with them, I had tutors." he answered.
"I returned here to test for my OWLS and NEWTS. Then shipped out once more for business purposes where Edward Montgomery, Sam's father, hired me on."
To be his right hand man mostly at least as far as Samantha was concerned. He had his brothers as right hand men, but none of them had been able to see to Samantha's safety as well as Nicolas could, or tried at least, Godric knew that girl had suffered in the hands of that monster Marrion, but there was nothing anyone could have done to prevent it.
