Cynthia blushed at Jacob's offer. She was, of course, used to getting asked out, but the way he did it seemed so genuine... and for the first time in a while, she actually wanted to accept. But before she could respond, Alastor Moody had burst in, making his scene. Then Angelique announced that the meeting would begin. She looked quickly at Jacob and smiled. Then she mouthed the simple word, "Yes." Jacob noticed her blush, and that made him feel a lot less awkward than he already felt. Of course, his attention was diverted to Alastor Moody as he made his entrance into the meeting. The man seemed to have always had to make himself known, but Jacob did look up to him as did a few others. Before putting his full attention on the meeting, he glanced over to Cynthia again. After she mouthed her answer, a boyish looking smile appeared on his face. He looked back over to Angelique, waiting for the meeting to begin.

Angelique cleared her throat. It seemed she had been doing a lot of yelling lately, and her usually loud voice was beginning to show sounds of strain.
"OK, as you know, a girl was killed at Hogwarts and the suspect is still at large. Random violence is escalating. I have reason to suspect that something big is on the horizon, and that is why I have pulled you all off of overseas assignments and brought you back here. We need the backup. So the following people will be assigned to patrol duty in and around Hogwarts: Elphias Doge, Fabian Prewett, Emily Alchemia, and Mathieu and Cara Ferrera. Alastor, you will be there as well, continuing your previous assignment as judge of the tournament. Andromeda, you will continue your assignment as well, but I would like to speak with you in my office after the meeting."
She looked at the girl briefly, then turned her attention to Ted. "Ted, I'm pulling you off the graveyard assignment. We have bigger priorities right now. I want you and Veronica to investigate Death Eater activity in Hogsmeade. I also need to speak with you later."

Andi flushed bright red and avoided Angelique's eyes as she mentioned wanting to speak with her after the meeting. It couldn't be good, she thought to herself. Hearing that she also wanted to speak with Ted worried her even more. She wouldn't want to talk to them both together, would she?
It was all Andi could do not to turn around and look at him. She missed him so much... and yet, now, it was her fault that they weren't together. Why couldn't she just forgive him? She let out a soft sigh, but forced herself to hold her head up high.

Ted, on the other hand, let out a soft sigh of relief. Thank Merlin, his actually got to be an Auror again, at least for a little while. It didn't occur to him that he was in bad shape for it. All he could think was that it would get his mind off Andromeda for a while. And it would force him to sober up.
He didn't even care if she was going to speak to them together. It didn't matter anymore. Somehow, being next to Andromeda right now was when he felt the loneliest.

Veronica looked at Ted worriedly. She was glad she would be working with him. It would give her the opportunity to keep an eye on him, to make sure he was OK. Hopefully she could help keep him distracted from the situation with Andromeda.
Almost against her will, Veronica's gaze drifted over to Andromeda. The girl was very pale and sick-looking, and seemed almost to be shaking. She couldn't understand... if she was so miserable about being apart from Ted, why had she refused to take him back?

Angelique continued, "Cassidy, you'll continue working on Tyler's case until the trial ends. Please let me know if you need any additional help on that case." She nodded toward her friend quietly before moving on.
"Now, then, some of you may have heard that I put out a call to other ministries for some additional assistance. So far only one country has responded, and that is Australia. They sent us one of their best aurors, Cynthia Darling." She turned to the blonde woman sitting next to Jacob. "Cynthia, welcome! I hope you'll like it here. To get you started, I'm going to have you work with Jacob Tanner--whom I see you've already met. The two of you will be in charge of investigating Death Eater activitity in Diagon Alley."

Cynthia smiled politely at Angelique, then made sure to make eye contact with the other aurors, who were now eying her curiously. She was very relieved that she would be working with Jacob. She felt comfortable with him, which wasn't something she could say about many people. She gave him a shy smile before turning back to face Angelique.

Riley turned to look at Cynthia... not appraising her, just to see who the woman was. It was horrible, and a sad statement about the world to her, that only one country had answered their call for help, and even then, they only sent one Auror.
Perhaps someone should be sent, in person, to the UK, the States, China... any country with a force big enough to spare an Auror or two.

Alastor nearly jumped out of his seat as Angelique spoke, was this blasted woman trying to drive the Ministry into the ground. "Bloody hell St. Clare! Your sending rookies to hunt death eaters? Are our numbers not small enough for you? Trying to whittle us down a bit, make it more challenging on the bad guys?" Managing to maintain a steady voice, he kept his eyes locked onto Angelique, not only was this woman sending rookie's out, she was gonna send out that blasted fool Ted Tonks.

Angelique frowned in annoyance. She was getting more than a little tired of having everyone, from her own employees, to the angry housewives, tell her how to do her job. "Alastor, I respect your opinion, of course, but I also have great confidence in all of our aurors. Right now we cannot afford to coddle anyone or sit back and let them learn things slowly. If they're not good enough to handle the job, then they are no use to us. I am sorry to sound harsh, but this is the time for everyone to prove their worth. Many of our aurors are young, and we can't afford to rely only on those with a lot of experience."

Cyrus saw his mother out of the corner of his eye and merely nodded in recognition of her. He could never truly forgive her nor hate her so he had decided to settle for resigned annoyance. Turning his attention immediately to the Head Auror as she began to speak, he listened intently wondering where his assignment would be, as she finished speaking and Alastor had gotten off a rant, he began to wonder if he was even going to get an assignment. "Um...Miss St. Clare?" His reckless bravery and desire to be a better auror than the rest of his family pushed him onward. "Am I to be getting an assignment as well?"

Roland finally arrived as Cyrus was speaking. He opened the door to the meeting room very quietly and slipped into a seat in the back of the room, near Ted. He certainly didn't want to make a scene or call attention to the fact that he was late. But as Cyrus asked about getting an assignment, Roland turned his attention to his younger brother. Was he ready for an assignment yet?

Angelique's attention was momentarily diverted by Cyrus's question. "Actually, yes, you will be receiving an assignment, Cyrus," she said. "I was just getting to you."
A movement in the back caught her eye and she noticed Roland slipping into the room. She cast a look in his direction, letting it be known that his late arrival had not escaped her attention.
"Cyrus, you and Hayden will be working together. You'll be shadowing him, learning the ropes. Your assignment is a difficult one, so I hope you're up to it. You'll need to go undercover at St. Mungo's to determine the possibility of Death Eaters working there."

Hayden looked to Cyrus before Angelique spoke. When she said that they were on assignment together, Hayden couldn't help but raise an eyebrow. Although, he knew that Cyrus would do just fine as long as he did what he was told to do. He could guide him through this assignment and maybe afterwords, Cyrus would be ready for a mission of his own.
He gave a nod toward Angelique and then looked toward his cousin. Hayden had a feeling that Cyrus could handle the mission as long as he was up for it and willing to listen and not be hard headed.

Matheiu felt his nerves increase when he heard that Cyrus would be getting his first assignment. In his opinion, the boy wasn't ready. He still thought of Cyrus as the young, irresponsible boy he had always been. It helped a little that he'd be working with Hayden, but he would have preferred it if he had been partnered with Roland instead... He looked back toward the door to see if his eldest son had arrived. He let out a sigh of relief when he caught sight of Roland, sitting in the back of the room.

Cyrus could not believe his ears, he did have an assignment and it was an important one at that. Death Eaters may have infiltrated St. Mungo's and Angelique thought that he was good enough to put an end to it, and working with Hayden no less. Standing up, he bowed his head slightly towards Angelique. "Neither Hayden or myself will let you or the Ministry down, we'll find these Death Eaters and put them in Azkaban where they belong." Sitting back down, he smiled at his cousin and new partner.

Angelique nodded to him. "I'll be giving both of you a quick briefing and some files on the case after the meeting," she said.
She turned her attention to Roland. "You're late," she said. "Luckily for you, I hadn't gotten to your assignment yet."

Roland nodded stiffly. "My apologies, Ms. St. Clare. I had an urgent matter that could not be delayed." He was accutely aware of all eyes turning to him and it made him feel very uncomfortable. Still, he could not regret the fact that he had taken the time to ensure Lina and Mara's safety. It was a family matter, whether or not his parents chose to see it that way.

Angelique frowned. She knew that, as aurors, it was sometimes hard to arrange one's schedule to make it to a meeting. And she knew enough about Roland to know that tardiness was not a habit for him. Still, she couldn't allow anyone to think she was too soft on such things. It seemed enough people were questioning her ability to do the job.
"OK, but do try to make an effort to be on time next time," she said. "Now, about your mission. I would like you to work with Riley Neves to investigate the murder of Katie Lawrence. The two of you should be a good balance of skills, and I hope you'll be able to make some progress in the case, because I've got a lot of people breathing down my neck over this."

Riley's eyes shot up to Angelique. She had heard the woman wrong, surely. She never worked with a partner. And Roland? He had botched his last assignment.
If she had been talking one on on with Angelique, she would have argued, but as it too, she kept quiet, just nodding her head to acknowledge that she had heard the assignment. She was not happy.
