Andi wasn't quite able to calm the nervous fluttering she felt in her stomach when she received the memo about the meeting. The emphasis was very strong that all aurors were to attend... which meant to her that Ted would be there as well. For a while, she weighed the consequences of not showing up. Would she be fired for not attending?
In the end, she decided it wasn't worth the risk, and she headed out to the ministry, keeping her head low. With any luck, he wouldn't notice her.
But as she stepped into the room, her eyes found him instantly, hiding in the back, looking surly and uncomfortable. Their eyes locked for a split second before she turned away and went over to sit next to her cousin Fabian. She hoped Ted couldn't see that she was shaking.

Ted held her gaze when she came into the room, and he stared back at her harshly, for that brief split second. And when she looked away and went to her cousin, the hurt and the heartbreak was evident in his eyes.
Why couldn't Angelique had pardoned him from this meeting? Everyone knew he was useless, and he didn't even care anymore.

When Andi entered, Fabian immediately looked to her. It was no secret as to what happened between her and Ted. He felt horrible for it. He didn't like Andi feeling that way, or seeing Ted the way he was. Fabian's glance went to Ted. No hatred or dislike was held in his eyes, just curiousity. He looked back to Andi and noticed that she was shaking. He wasn't going to ask if she was alright. That would be the wrong thing to do.
"Hi Andi."

"Yes, Roland is back in town. He returned not long before I did. I have seen him. I ran into him in the bar when I returned."
Hayden's attention to his uncle was changed when his aunt entered. "Hello Cara," he greeted. He smiled at his aunt and uncle's exchanges. One day, he hoped that he could have something like that, but he wasn't going to rush anything.
"I've been trying to Cara, been trying to. How about you?"

Cynthia nodded. "In our line of work, it's never really easy to trust anyone, is it?" she said. "I'm sure it must sound odd to you, aurors being sent in from other countries to help out. Honestly, I'd understand if you were still a little suspicious of me. The Australian minister of magic sent me as a gesture of solidarity, because I'm one of the best aurors in the country, and there's not really a lot to do in Australia. There are dark wizards, but they're more scattered, not unified. And so I'm here." "Trust is always a hard thing I think," said Jacob. "No offense to you or anything. I've always been careful about who I trust." He continued to listen to her. In honesty, he loved to hear her talk but he wasn't going to just blurt that out. "It's not really all that odd. I'm sure that the Ministry is trying to get help any way it can. I'm really glad that you're here though. We need as much help as we can get." He offered her a gentle smile. "I'm not suspicious of you. I noticed the way you acted when I first met you the other night. I believe you."

Cynthia smiled softly. There was something about this man that she was beginning to like very much. He seemed to have a good heart. And his eyes were so easy to get lost in. She was going to have to be careful around him, because it would be all too easy to fall in love with him. And she couldn't afford to let that happen.
"Thanks," Cynthia said. "And you really helped me out a lot, with all your information the other night. Now I don't feel totally lost in the dark. I'm hoping this meeting clears up the rest of it for me, so I can get started working."

"No problem," he said. "I'm sorry if I just started going on and on about things the other night. I sort of get that way when I talk about certain things." Jacob gave her a sheepish look. "And if you ever need anything, don't be afraid to ask. I'm willing to answer whatever questions I can. If I can't answer them, well, I'll help you find someone who can. Plus, I don't think it will be that hard to find me afterall."
He admired how Cynthia seemed to be ready to start working. Jacob was the same way. He preferred to be working rather than just sitting around doing absolutely nothing or something close to nothing.

"No, I didn't mind at all. I really like hearing some of the things you had to say," Cynthia replied. "Especially the part about the muggleborns. It's really not easy being muggleborn, but I'm proud of where I came from. My parents passed when I was younger, so I've pretty much been on my own ever since."
It was a lie, but she couldn't very well tell him the truth.

Mathieu wanted to ask Hayden about Roland, to make sure he was OK. He knew Roland could take care of himself perfectly well, and that he was probably perfectly fine, but his oldest son was too much like him... he kept a lot inside and threw himself into his work. It worried him at times. He didn't know what was going on in his son's head and it worried him sometimes.
"I'm glad you saw him," he said. "I rather would have thought he would contact us as soon as he got back, but at least you talked to him. How are you doing, Hayden?"

Cara nodded to her nephew. "Well enough," she responded with a gentle smile, and squeezed her husband's hand.
"Roland is twenty-two now, Mathieu. And he's proven himself more than capable when it comes to taking care of himself. He always checks in eventually." She was sure he was fine. Besides, they would have heard by now if he wasn't.

Mathieu smiled at his wife in a way that was eerily reminiscent of his eldest son's smile. "Of course... I know you're right, dearest. It's just..." He closed his mouth quickly. He was being silly. Of course Roland was fine. Why wouldn't he be?
"Perhaps later we should visit with Jamie and Amandine," he said, changing the subject. "Make sure our younger children are doing well at school."

It was a lie, but she couldn't very well tell him the truth. He thought about using the 'I'm sorry' line, but he figured that she didn't want to hear something like that. His eyes showed what he didn't say. "Well, there's nothing wrong with where anyone comes from. People are people. We're all different no matter who our families are. Some people are just afraid of seeing everyone in the same spectum I suppose." Jacob shrugged absently. "Um, I just wanted to ask, since you're new here if you wanted to grab a bite to eat. It's not like a date or anything, just as friends."

Cyrus stared at the memo on his desk, there was a meeting of the whole department and they were including him. He didn't know if he should be thrilled or terrified because this meant that he would have to be in the same room as Cara and Mathieu Ferrera. Crumpling the memo he quickly tossed it in the trash and headed towards as the meeting as he decided that the honor of being involved in this meeting was more important than not wanting to face his parents.
Entering the meeting room he quickly spotted his parents, standing with his cousin Hayden. Approaching from the other side, Cyrus clasped his cousin on the shoulder and nodded at him, he decided he would just try and ignore his parents this should make it easier than starting a fight in the meeting. "Hey Hayden, hows it going?"

Elphias sat at his desk, as he hurriedly finished a bit of paperwork he had left untended until now. He had been at Hogwarts as part of the task force assigned there for the student's protection and had been spending much time with his dear friend Albus Dumbledore. Knowing better than most the true danger of the growing darkness, he knew this meeting today would be important, placing the last of the papers in his outbox he quickly stood and headed towards the meeting.
Entering the room he looked around at the bright, young faces around the table. These were the men and women who would be on the front lines of this war and he wondered how many of them were scared of that fact. Noticing Angelique, he moved around the table and beamed at the Head Auror, "Angelique, I hope all finds you as well as can be expected?" Grabbing a chair close to Miss St. Clare, Elphias wondered where the one was face that he did not see. "Hrm...Anyone seen Alastor?"

Angelique looked up as Elphias addressed her. "Thank you, Elphias, I'm muddling through," she said politely. She was beginning to realize what a difficult job she had inherited, and she was determined to throw everything she had into it, but somedays, like today, she felt like it was hopeless. She was counting on the meeting to help her organize her troops.
Glancing around, she took a quick mental head count. "I have no idea where Alastor is. I can only assume he is planning some grand entrance. I also notice one other absence," she added, not seeing Roland Ferrera. "I think maybe we'll wait another few minutes or so, then begin without them."

Alastor entered the lobby of the Ministry, he was reporting in to fill out his weekly report on the state of things at the school and had decided to take the long way for no real reason. He had just left Grace's loving embrace, wanting to handle this before reporting back to the school for his protective duties. As he exited the elevator and reached his desk, he read the memo and nearly yelled. Throwing it carelessly in the trash he stormed down to where the meeting was to be held.
How dare Angelique interrupt his duties for some simple meeting, as he approached the doors a quick swing of his wand caused the doors to fly open, creaking on their hinges, storming into the room his eyes locked upon Angelique's ignoring the others in the room for the moment. "St. Clare, this had better be good. I have things to do that are a tad more important than listening to you jabber on ya know." Noticing Fabian and his cousin sitting at the table, he grabbed a chair near them clapping his old friend on the shoulder and sharing a friendly nod with Andromeda.

Angelique rolled her eyes and turned a glance to Elphias as if to say "I told you so." Just what she needed to deal with today; theatrics from Alastor Moody.
"I'm so glad you could make time in your busy schedule to join us, Mr. Moody," she said with a slight smile. "I assure you, I rather hope to accomplish more in this meeting than jabber. I'll be giving you a quick briefing on the state of things, and then I'll be reassigning some of you."
She glanced at the door again; Roland Ferrera was still not present, but she knew if she didn't get started soon, Alastor would have a fit. "At any rate, we're still one short, but I think we can get started."

Mathieu didn't let it show, but he was relieved when Cyrus entered the room. Even though he was displeased with his son, he was still glad to know that he was doing well. He quickly turned away from Hayden and Cyrus and looked back at his wife.
When Angelique announced that the meeting would start, Mathieu's concern grew. Where was Roland? It was not like him to be late? Could something have happened? He silently gripped Cara's hand under the table.

Cynthia blushed at Jacob's offer. She was, of course, used to getting asked out, but the way he did it seemed so genuine... and for the first time in a while, she actually wanted to accept. But before she could respond, Alastor Moody had burst in, making his scene. Then Angelique announced that the meeting would begin.
She looked quickly at Jacob and smiled. Then she mouthed the simple word, "Yes."

Cara was honestly surprised that Cyrus showed before Roland. Roland was the responsible, dedicated one. Cyrus was the careless one... and yet, Cyrus was the one here.
"He's fine," she whispered to her husband, though inwardly, she was very worried.
She leaved forward and gave Cyrus a warm smile. She wasn't angry at her son in the least. No, she was angry with that tramp ruining his life. Did they even know for sure that the child was his?
"It's good to see you, Cyrus," she whispered before giving Angelique her attention.
