"Oh, all right," Jackie said. "She's probably some tragically beautiful, bookish Ravenclaw, isn't she?" She made her move, accidentally leaving her Queen wide open, and looked back at him.
"I don't know. There are some pretty basic things that always intrigue a girl... make eye contact with her, even when you're not talking. Compliment her... but not overtly. Tell her you like her hair or something like that. Touch her... that's a good way to flirt. Like, put her hand on her back when you're opening a door for her, or if she's just told a joke, laugh and put your hand on her arm or something."

"Actually she's not all that bookish. She doesn't contain herself to books all the time. She does know when its time to study though," he said. Dean couldn't afford to deny if it was a Ravenclaw. If he did, Jackie could possibly figure out that it was her. "And I'm not going to tell you what house she's in either." He looked up and she had just looked back down the the board. Dean took a moment to stare at her, but as soon as she looked back up, he glanced downward and moved a piece, not bother to take her Queen. He was going to go easy on her, plus he was have distracted by her anyway.
As Jackie started to name off things, he made a mental note of all of them. He would start doing those things to her. Hopefully things would click with her sometime soon.
"How would I know if she likes me back?"

Jackie shrugged. "She'll respond well. She won't get all stuff if you touch her, and she'll keep eye contact with you, too. Unless she's really shy... then you're really going to have to stay positive because it will always seem like she's not responding well. But she'll laugh at all of your jokes, even if they aren't always funny," she gave him a quirked smile at this. Jackie always laughed at his jokes.

Dean gave her a fake hurt look. "What? My jokes aren't funny? Oh, I see how it is." A smile spread across his face. "I'm just kidding." Of course, Dean always laughed at Jackie's jokes as well.
He considered what she told him. Jackie didn't ever seem to stiffen whenever he touched her, although he supposed she didn't because it was a usual thing for them. "Thanks Jackie. I'll try these things with her and see what happens. Maybe I'll just tell her that I do like her sometime soon."

"That's porbably the best way to do it," Jackie said. "Is to just come out and say it. But rejection is scary, I know."
Suddenly, being the best friend sucked. She didn't want to tell him how to go flirt with other girls. "You'll let me know how it goes?" she asked, knowing he would and sincerely wishing he wouldn't.

"The main thing I'm worried about is that she's just going to laugh at me or worse, not even believe me," said Dean with a frown. What if Jackie didn't believe him when he tried to hint to her that he liked her? That wouldn't be good at all.
"But yeah, I'll let you know," he replied. How long was it going to take for her to understand that he was asking this information so he could tell her that he liked her? Maybe she already figured it out. Dean never really talked to any other girls. If he did it was a short 'hello' or he would basically stutter a sentence out.

"If she laughs at you, she's a slag and I would disapprove of her anyway. And you know I have to approve of her..." she said with a teasing grin. "But why wouldn't she believe you? You're not the kind of guy who lies about things like that... it's hard enough for you to say it when it's true."
She had to change the subject then, unsure why she was so disheartened. She should be happy for him. "I'm sorry, what do the little guys on horses do again? I mean, how do they move?"

Before he had a chance to answer, Jackie had changed the subject. "Oh the knights move in an 'L' direction. You can move it four spaces, however it must be in an 'L'." Dean's attention went from the board to Jackie's face. He noticed that he started to attempt to sneak glances at her more than he usually did, although that was alright. Maybe he would start flirting with her more but the main question would be, would Jackie notice it.

Jackie nodded, biting her lip. "It's like someone was drunk on firewhiskey when they decided how the pieces should move. I mean, I like the game, but really..."
In truth, she had lost all interest in the game. She was too busy trying to keep Dean's mystery girl from her mind. It was ridiculous, she thought. She had no right to be jealous like that. No right whatsoever.

Dean laughed and moved his queen's side castle. "Maybe the person who invented Wizard's Chess was drunk when they decided that." He looked up from the board and looked to Jackie again. He studied her face for a moment. She seemed to be thinking of something, but Dean was not going to push what she was thinking.
"Let's do something exciting. What is one of your crazy thoughts that you haven't done yet?"

Jackie smiled to herself. "Look at you. You jump off one building and you're a total adrenaline junkie. I've created a monster."
She thought of the things she wanted to do, and a few of them were dangerous enough that even she had her hesitations, but she just didn't feel like doing any of them right now. For some reason, thinking about losing Dean to some girl who barely even knew him had completely mellowed Jackie out.
"Why don't you tell me another of your ideas. I'm fresh out."

"Oh, so we're going on my ideas?" Dean gave her a teasing grin. "Well, let's see." He thought for a moment. "We could..." he trailed off. A thought came to mind, and he knew that Jackie would probably slap him if he did it. Dean shook his head. How long would it take for her to figure out how much he liked her?
"I'm out of ideas at the moment. We could always run through the halls yelling, or..." An evil like grin spread across his face. Dean moved quickly from the floor to the couch and put his arm around Jackie to get a hold on her.

"What are you doing?" she asked, immidiately suspicious of why he was grabbing her.
"If you tickle me, I swear I'll scream so loud your ears will bleed, Dean-o."

He continued to grin evilly. "Well, I do know a sliencing charm I could use if you do scream," he said with his arm still around her. "I could then tickle you all I wanted to and you wouldn't be able to make a sound." Dean gave her a wink. "You wanted to know my ideas so I'm telling you. You like my ideas, so I don't get why you don't like this one. I mean, I love this idea."

"No, Dean," she said, exaggerating her frown and pushing at him. She didn't know what his obsession with tickling her was, except that if she really thought about it, tickling would be a great way for Dean to flirt with this girl of his. But of course Dean wasn't thinking that when he tickled *her.*
"I'll hit you if you silence me." Jackie, though she was athletic and high energy most of the time, could not hit hard to save her life.

He loved to flirt with Jackie, even if she didn't understand she was the girl he was crushing on. "Yes Jackie," Dean said not moving. Her pushing away was useless. His smile was still on his lips. "You can hit me all you want but, it's not going to bother me. I'll still keep on."
Dean didn't give up so easily. Now, it was time he tested the waters. He let one of his fingers poke her side.

"Dean!" She said, almost laughing on the spot because even his pokes tickled.
She bit her lip and gave him a mock angry look. It was impossible to be angry at Dean, no matter what he did. Thank Merlin she was laid back and didn't get angry too often.
She smacked his arm, knowing it did no good, but looking for all the world like she thought it might.

He let out a chuckle, but then gave her an innocent grin as she looked angry at him. Dean used his free hand to bring up one side of her mouth to give her an odd looking smile. His grin grew, but then he quickly frowned as she smacked his arm. "Hey! That hurt! Now I'm going to bruise! I see a reason to get even."
Dean's frown turned into his grin again and he started to tickle her mercilessly.

"No!" Jackie almost shreiked. Girls could scream very high-pitched, and she was *really* close to using that to her advantage.
"I warned you," she told him between laughs and smacking him harder, though she got to a point where she couldn't even hit him, she was just trying to get out of his arms, though she was sliding off the couch and to the floor in the process.

Dean's laughter was getting mixed in with Jackie's. He didn't even really feel her smacking him that hard. He noticed that Jackie was trying to get out of his arms, but he wasn't going to be letting her anytime soon.
He continued to tickle her, and Dean didn't realize that he was sliding off the couch with her. His laughter was mixed with hers as they hit the floor, but when he realized that their positions had changed a little bit, he stopped laughing. Jackie was under him, his hand on her side and his other hand holding him up. Their faces were close and Dean seemed to be frozen as his shaggy hair fell in his face as he continued to stare down at her, not moving.
