Justin winked at his little sister, he still though her as his little sister even if she was of age now. It just seemed so odd to him that she was 17 now. His baby sister was growing up and he didn't exactly like what that meant. Guys wanting his sister was not something he liked to think about. In his eyes she would always be sweet pure and innocent Gwenny.
"Xav, I'm sure any girl you ask will be be no issues. I trust your judgment but I'd hate to see you without a date at all. It would be an injustice to the Scotts name if you didn't have a date after all. But I'm sure you'll find one without problems. I have faith in the golden child." He grinned at his youngest brother. If anyone would do as expected it would be Xavier, and he didn't need to worry about him he was sure.

Xavier grinned slightly. He always tried to pretend that he liked being referred to as the "golden child," but it actually kind of annoyed him. He was glad that his parents were proud of him, but deep down, he felt like there was a lot of pressure on him to be perfect. And because of it, his brothers and sister treated him differently, or at least how that was how he felt. He didn't feel like he was one of them. It was the reason he and Thane and Timothy didn't get along very well. He related better to his older brother and his sister.
"Thanks," he said. "I guess I'll keep looking, then. But if I don't find a date soon, I may be stuck with some Hufflepuff with glasses and acne..." He frowned. "Anyway, Jus, I'm glad you're back. How did your trip go?"

"Other than returning empty handed early and almost on deaths door...? I've actually been staying with Tanya for the past few weeks, despite the cost of another scar she did manage to work her healing magic on me. I'm almost as good as new. I just don't want anyone else knowing, don't need any more issues than I already have. But I know I can trust you two to not say anything to anyone else. To be honest I'm glad to be home I just wish I hadn't been empty handed, all that time and effort for nothing." It also had to do with the favior he needed from Xavier. Moody had been stationed here and he'd been the last one with the artifact. He needed to have someone who was in the school keep an eye out for anything that might be helpful. He still had hope he could get to the artifact or at the very least get to Moody in the end.

Xavier snorted. "Yeah, don't tell Timmy, he'll just tell Mum and Dad. You could probably tell Thane, though, he'll just forget about it anyway." He rolled his eyes, giving off a not so subtle hint of his opinion about his brothers. "Anyway, I won't say anything. But really, are you OK?" He couldn't help feeling a bit worried for his older brother.

"I'm sure my boss will be displeased with me, so the verdict on that answer is still yet to be seen. But that's another story for another time, Xav." In other words, when the boy was older he was sure that he'd eventually be able to share more things, but as yet... Xavier was still too young to know everything, even if he was his favorite brother. They were more alike than he was sure Xavier knew, but that also mean Justin knew that the boy still had time to choose his path in life. The choice he'd made had been right for him, and he hoped Xavier would make the same choice... but only time would tell how good of a Scott's son he would become as he got older.

Xavier frowned. He didn't really know all of what Justin did for work; he seemed to keep everything very close to his chest. He also didn't seem to have much of a social life, or at least, not one that he could talk about. It frustrated him a little, because he felt like he was being shut out of a lot of things. It was just one more reason why he hated being the youngest. "Well, I hope you're not in too much trouble," he said "Now that you're back in town, it would be cool if we could hang out or something. You know, just the two of us. Gwen could maybe come too... just not Thane and Timmy." He made a bit of a face at the mention of their names.

Gwen glanced up at this, her brows creasing. In her father's eyes, she was just as guilty of being a bad child as Tim and Thane. But Xav would allow her to come?
She gave him a cheeky look. "You're just inviting me because I'm sitting here, aren't you?" Maybe that was it... he had that streak of manners in him and he realized he had slipped up in front of her. But part of her hoped that maybe he was okay with her.

Xavier shook his head quickly. "No... it's not like that," he said. He looked from Gwen to Justin and back again. "I just... Thane and Timmy bug me, that's all. But you're cool with me, Gwenny. You don't pick on me like the other two do." He let out a frustrated sigh. "You know, this whole 'golden child' thing... Thane and Timmy are always teasing me about it. You're always nice to me, and you actually listen to me instead of treating me like a kid or a mama's boy or something." He scowled as he said these words. He wasn't one to be particularly expressive about his feelings, and didn't usually say so many words at once.

Gwen smiled a little, setting her chin in her hand. Xav was the Golden Child, he was a kid, and he was a mama's boy. All of that was true, but Gwen, being the girl, paid more attention to feelings and such than the boys did, and she knew these things annoyed Xav.
"Well, that's because you're none of those things to me. You're just my brother, Xav, and you're going to be no matter what you do. Got it?"

Xavier smiled a rare smile. "Thanks. And you're my only sister." He wasn't good at saying things like "I love you," so this was about as close as he would come. But he did love his sister, and his oldest brother. His feelings about Thane and Timmy, however, were much more complicated.

Gwen laughed at this, softly.
"But if you had another sister, I'd still be your favorite, right?" She was teasing him, of course. She had a feeling if they did have another sister, she would be a lot like Xavier, except maybe a little more apathetic than Xav pretended to be. At least, she hoped he was pretending. She didn't want to lose him like Thane and Tim had.

Xavier grinned slightly and caught her eye for a second before looking away again. "Yeah, I guess so," he said with a small shrug. "I mean, as far as girls go, you're pretty cool."
This was high praise from him, and he felt a little awkward, so he cleared his throat. "Um... actually, I should probably get back to the common room... I have a lot of homework to do and stuff. But Justin, are you coming to the family dinner this weekend? Mum and Dad would love to see you."

Justin smiled and reached out to ruffle his little brother's hair. He knew Xavier hated it, but he couldn't resist. "Yeah, absolutely. I'll be there. But don't tell Mum and Dad that I'm coming, OK? I want it to be a surprise. I just love seeing the shocked look on their faces." He laughed.
"Now, go... get back to the common room, kid. I still want to talk to Gwen for a bit, but I'll see you this weekend, OK?"

Xavier scowled as Justin messed up his hair. There were few things that annoyed him more. And even if Justin was his favorite brother, he still hated it when people messed up his hair. It took work to get his hair to look just the right way... messy, but not too messy.
Pulling away, he moved towards the stairs. "OK, I'll see you then," he said, trying to rearrange his hair. "Talk to you later, Gwennie!"

Gwen smiled softly and waved at her brother as he pulled away. "I'll see you at dinner tonight, Xav," she told him, her way of saying that he had better say hello later when he spotted her.
She turned her easy, adoring smile on Justin. "You know, one more brother to find you, and there won't be any surprise about coming home this weekend." There were very few people that honestly looked up to or respected. She feared her father, when he was angry, and that was never quite the same as respect. But she respected Justin.

Justin grinned. "Nah... I'm not worried about Thane. Even if he does find me here, he'll just forget he saw me anyway." He laughed easily, then moved over to sit down on the steps next to Gwen.
"It really is good to be home," he commented. "I'm really going to have to see what I can do to keep from leaving so often." He was beginning to realize that, as much as he enjoyed his work and the chance to travel, sometimes it really was nice to be back with family.

Gwen laughed openly. "Yeah, this is true. He would forget... and he'd be just as surprised Dad and Mum."
Her smile faded slowly, and she gave her brother an adoring, but almost sad look. "It's good to have you home. It gets to be a lot sometimes, you know? Dad can be kind of overwhelming, and I think he just puts all the pressure on the oldest child in the house. He's happiest when you come home, and it's kind of a break for the rest of us. Plus, I miss you."
