Gwen sighed, knowing the worst was to come, but she gave an encouraging smile to Xavier. She hated to have him feel sorry for her or worry about her. He was still young enough where he should just always be having fun.
"See you both in a little bit," she said softly, trying to sound cheerful.

Thane looked up as his mother came into the kitchen, though the house elf just continually worked away at cleaning spells on the dishes.
He frowned. "He's angry, isn't he? I'm sorry, Mum. I didn't mean to do anything, and I know Tim and Gwen didn't either." He was used to the three of them getting in trouble.

"You didn't do anything wrong Thane," said Alicia comfortingly. "Your father just wants to talk to Gwen and Tim. You're free to join Zach, Xavier, and Justin." Alicia was going to be there whenever Thatcher talked to Gwen and Tim. She didn't understand why he would get so mad at them. They were children and they had their moments. Besides, she knew that not all her children would become deatheaters. She wasn't disappointed by that. After all, Justin was one, and Xavier had potential.
Once she finished up in the kitchen she turned to Thane. "Go ahead and join Xavier, Zach, and Justin. I'm going to go see what your father is saying to Gwen and Tim. Don't listen in either," she said looking toward him. "Your father will know and that would mean more trouble." Alicia walked over and kissed his forehead. "I'll be out there in a bit." She gave him a smile before disappearing back into the dining room where Thatcher, Gwen, and Tim remained.

Zachary moved into the living room with Justin and Xavier. He felt distinctly awkward, particularly with young Xavier, who had grown up much more than Zach had expected since he had last seen the boy. He also pitied Gwen and Timothy, since he himself had often been on the receiving end of such lectures, both from his father when he was still alive, and from Thatcher, who had assumed the role of father figure after their father's death. He also suspected that later, after the children had gone to bed, Thatcher would want to have a talk with him about his whereabouts the past 3 years. This talk was usually followed by a lecture about settling down and taking responsibility. Zach could almost repeat the speech verbatim, even though Thatcher was probably sure it just went in one ear and out the other.
He sat down on the couch and wondered whether it would be poor form to light up a cigarette in front of Xavier. He really could use a smoke.

Thane hesitated. Gwen hadn't done anything wrong at all. In fact, it was his fault that that stupid letter was opened at all. She had tried to be good and wait. Tim probably deserved the lecture from their father... he was the brilliant one that said he wanted to bring a nameless, muggleborn Hufflepuff girl home. He could have gotten away with it, had he brought it up and phrased it differently, and not around company. But no, he had been stupid about it.
Sighing, he simply nodded, though he would try to listen in anyway, and went to the living room.
His eyes met Justin's as he sat down, but decided not to ask what he had been about to.

Thatcher sat at the table silently, looking between his two remaining children with his arms folded over his chest. They both knew what was coming, but he was waiting for his wife.
When he saw her come back, he nodded to the table. "Have a seat, Alicia."

Alicia didn't like the look on Thatcher's face, and her expression said so. Still, she didn't open her mouth to say anything. She walked over to the table and sat down gracefully, turning her eyes to Gwen and Tim. A flash of sympathy showed in her eyes as she still looked between her two children sitting at the table. She looked back toward Thatcher and waited for him to start.

Tim sat quietly as he watched the table slowly begin to clear, he knew what would be coming soon and wasn't looking forward to it. As his dad asked his mom to sit, his gaze lowered towards the table, awaiting the wrath of Thatcher Scotts. His feelings for Kat had gotten the best of his logic and he just wanted his family to be happy with him but instead it had taken a whole different outcome and Tim was almost slightly regretting mentioning Kat at dinner.
Yet he had made a good point as well, it should not matter whether Kat was rich or not, if she made Tim happy than everyone else should just be happy for him and but out of it. Mustering a bit of courage, he raised his eyes to meet his mom's.

Gwen, however, had her eyes on her father.
"I'm very sorry about opening the letter at dinner," She said softly, trying to say all the right things so that she could get out of this a little quicker. "I was going to ignore it until later, but I had already drawn too much attention to it. It won't happen again."
She was also very careful not to get Thane in trouble.

"Be quiet, Guinevere," Thatcher said, his voice low and angry... dangerous.
"Let me see the letter." He took it as she handed it over, and his eyebrow raised. "You will find out who sent this, and you will put a stop to it. You can no longer play childish games."
He stopped and looked at both of his children. "Despite the many talks I've had with the two of you, you refuse to behave. It had come to my realization that perhaps I have been too lenient. It stops tonight. Timothy, you will end relations with that mudblood girl, and we'll find someone suitable for you. Gwen, you are to act like a lady from now on. Your fiance will expect it of you," he said, watching his only daughter as he dropped the bomb that he had arranged a marriage for her already.

Gwen's jaw dropped at this. "What? No, you can't-"
A look from her father shut her up quickly, but her eyes blazed. They were ready to marry her off? How could they?
She looked to her mother. She thought, of all people, her mother would have stopped this from happening, or at least told her sooner.

At Thatcher's news about Gwen, her attention went from her children, directly to him. When had he decided something like that? He hadn't even mentioned it to her. Alicia's lips pressed together keeping her from saying something. She looked back to Gwen and her eyes said that she didn't know anything about it.
Alicia flashed her eyes back to Thatcher. Their children were growing up on their own and yes, she didn't like the idea of Timothy dating a mudblood, but still. There was no sense in Thatcher just throwing out that Gwen was already arranged to be married. She didn't like that at all.

Thatcher ignored the look from his wfe, keeping his attention on his children. "Gwen, look at me."
He waited until he had her attention again, as angry as the look from his only daughter was.
To answer her question, he said, "You remember the Wolfe family, don't you?" He held up his hand, anticipated the arguement before she even opened her mouth. "This is the end of it, Gwen. No more muggle clothes, no more letters at dinner, no more attitude. You will model yourself after your cousins. In fact, the more like Ophelia you can be, the better."

"Adrien Wolfe?"
Gwen was outraged, and look from her father or not, she was going to argue. "I am not ggoing to act like Fee! She's a brainless twit. Why doesn't she marry Adrien!?" Her father was basically telling her to stop being who she was and be the quiet trophy wife that so many men seemed to desire.
"Mum, tell him. You can't do this to me!"

Adrien Wolfe? That's who Thatcher thought to have Gwen married off to? Sure, the Wolfes are a lovely family, but the fact out of all of this was that he didn't mention anything about it to her. Since when did he start making all the decisions, especially ones like this, alone?
Alicia's eyes flashed anger. She wasn't scared to raise her voice to Thatcher, but for right now, she was going to attempt to be calm. She looked to Gwen and her expression said for her to calm down. "Thatcher," she said looking at him.

Tim sat quietly, staring at his feet as his father unleashed the news upon them. How could he think to do this, who did he think he was..forbidding him from seeing Kat? That was evil beyond anything he thought his father was capable of, and slowly the anger began to build inside Timothy. He had finally revealed his feelings to her and discovered she felt the same and now his father was trying to take that away from him. On top of that he was trying to push Adrien Wolfe onto Gwen.
"I won't do it." He paused for a moment to meet his father's gaze, Tim's eyes were filled with the hatred of a man who was fighting for the one thing he loved the most in the world. "I won't stop seeing Kat and the only way you can make me is to kill me!" His voice was raised in anger now, he had just started something he had to finish or else look weak in the eyes of his family. "If you think Gwen will ever marry Adrien Wolfe, your more mistaken then when you thought i'd actually never see Katarina again."

Thatcher stood up, angry that his son dare talk back to him, and needing leverage over the boy. A height advantage was all he needed.
"Try my patience, Timothy," his threatened, his tone low and dark and angrier than Gwen had ever seen it before. Thatcher ignored his wife. "I will not have my children acting like some mudblood heathens, and like it or not, believe it or not, things are going to change, starting right now. Hate me all you want, it makes no difference to me."

Gwen reached out and put a hand on her brother's arm. "Sit down, Tim," she said quietly. She was angry, too, but challanging their father outright was not the way to do this. Oh, Merlin knew she was not going to let a marriage to Adrien happen, but there were better ways of rebeling.

Having been ignored, that fueled the fire for Alicia. She was already angry that he didn't say anything about Gwen being arranged to marry the Wolfe boy without telling her anything. They were supposed to make decisions together, not off on their own, not when it was something like that.
Alicia rose from the table and she still had her angry look in her eye. She looked to her children. "Gwen, Tim, go upstairs," she said with her tone angry. She looked to Thatcher with a look that said they were going to talk.

Gwen's eyes flashed to her mother when she heard the angry tone, and she honestly didn't know if her mother was angry with them or not. They were talking back, sure, but how could she think that what their father was telling them was fair? She hated Adrien, and so what if Tim was dating a muggleborn? It wasn't like they were following the Voldemort she had heard so much about...
And something seemed to click into place as she looked back at her father.
"Come on, Tim," she said softly, ushering him to try and get him out of the room without saying anything else to get them in trouble. "We'll go up to my room."
