Zachary began to help himself to some food. "Everything smells wonderful, Alicia," he complimented her. "I can't tell you how long it's been since I've had a good, home cooked meal."
Too long, he told himself. Perhaps something had changed in him, because for the first time, being back home didn't feel stifling. Usually, he had moved around because he got bored, and he needed to feel free like the wind, not tied down by anything or anyone. But this time was different. He felt uncertain and out of place... and it bothered him. He wanted to belong again.
Maybe he was finally growing up.

"I agree, mom.. this is something I've been missing for the last six months no doubt about it." Justin proved as much as he ate as if he'd been starved by the past months, and he even manged to ignore Tanyas pointed frown in his direction. He knew what she was thinking but he purposely ignored his aunt. He was almost as good as new from her healing and he had missed being fed real food. Her idea of food for a half dying guy was torture and was one of the reasons he was so happy to be back at home now. Not that Tanya always fed nasty gruel type stuff, but he swore she did it just for him to suffer more while he was recovering. He had the childish urge to stick out his tongue at Tanya but, of course he didn't. Instead he just ignored her frowns at his own pleasure of his mother's cooking.

Thatcher took his wife's hand as everyone started lavishing her with compliments and squeezed it gently. "They're all quite right, you know. As always, you amaze me," he said quietly.
He surveyed his family... and Alec, who he was quite sure would never be family, and despite the rebelious children, he was proud of them all.

Alicia couldn't help but flush lightly. She smiled at Thatcher and looked around the table as everyone seemed to be eating. Of course, she couldn't have made it all without Tibby's help. Tibby was always eager to help in the kitchen, and of course, that made her Alicia's favorite. Plus, Tibby was the one that kept her company whenever Thatcher was away.
"Tibby did help too," she replied. "But thank you." She let her eyes linger on her husband for a moment longer before starting to eat herself. As usual, dinner was going smoothly.

Thane finished eatting finally, the slight tension from Timothy's news dredging into an odd silence as they all ate until small talk filled the room. He leaned over to his mother who was next to him. "Mom, I want to bring a girl to the next dinner. Would that be okay? She's a pureblood and she's one of the Tournament Champions." He said those first because he knew those things mattered to his family, even though in reality it wasn't important to him. To him she was just his Regina, the one he cared for regardless, his best friend. "She's really sweet and I'm taking her to the Yule Ball. But.. I'd like you to meet her." Thane looked rather nervous about this, but he really wanted his mother to like Regina. And he didn't want his parents getting the idea to arrange him off, since he already knew who he wanted to be with one day. It would be easier if his family just accepted her from the begining. And he really did want Regina to meet his family, mostly his mother.

A smile spread across Alicia's face as Thane asked about bringing a girl home next time. Her children were growing up fast, but it was good to see. "I don't see why you couldn't bring your girlfriend home with you next time. I don't see a problem in it. I would like to meet the girl who has apparently made my son nervous to ask me a question." She gave him a wink. After all, the girl was pureblood, and not to mention chosen as a champion, Alicia could see no reason why Thane couldn't bring her home with him. She didn't think that Thatcher would have that much a problem with it either. If Thane was happy with her, then Alicia would give the girl a fair chance.

A huge smile spread across Thane's face, "Thanks mum, I ... I really like her." He then proceded to blush all the way to his toes, and his face felt like it was burning red. He'd never brought a girl home to meet his parents, but then again he'd never really dated any girl before either. He'd always only had eyes for Regina, and after reading her journal he was finally brave enough to do something about it. He just hoped his family approved of her.

Xavier rolled his eyes at Thane's nauseating little display. So typical of Thane to blush and get all embarrassed over a girl. He was always trying to win their mother's approval and acting so innocent... what a goody-goody. He was tempted to taunt Thane by feigning surprise that his forgetful older brother had remembered the girl's name, but he knew better than to do that kind of thing in front of his aunt Tanya.

Timothy almost started laughing as Thane nervously asked their mother if he could bring Regina to dinner. Timothy knew how much Thane liked Regina and he thought she was a good person as well, but he couldn't help and laugh about how she managed to trip over herself at every possible occasion. "You wanna bring Regina to dinner?!" Feigning an irritated sigh, he looked over at his parents.
"We're going to have to hide all the breakables..the poor girl can't walk two feet without falling on her face." Unable to contain himself any longer he started laughing.

Thane kicked his brother under the table, hard enough to elicit a yelp from Timothy. "She's growing out of it, and she walks better than you when you're talking to Kat. And she dances like an angel, she's really very smart and witty and one of the most intelligent people I've ever met."

"Boys," Alicia said looking between both of them. "Don't tease either other." Her glance lingered on Timothy for a moment, before looking back to Thane. "Well, I'm sure she's a lovely girl and I look forward to meet her when we have dinner together again." She gave a smile to Thane. Alicia was proud of Thane for not being as shy as he used to be. She looked back to her plate and finished up.
"I'll be back in a moment. I'm going to see if Tibby needs any help with the dessert." Alicia excused herself from the table and disappeared into the kitchen.

Gwen sighed, leaning back in her seat. "Well, Xav, who are you bringing to dinner?" She asked. This wasn't at all to antagonize her youngest brother, but everyone else was bringing home dates. How come no one ever took her home to their parents? She supposed the front she put up wasn't exactly the kind of girl you took home to Mom.

Xavier looked up when Gwen spoke to him. He felt suddenly as if all eyes were on him, and it annoyed him a little. Mainly because he didn't have an answer. "No one," he mumbled. "I don't have a girlfriend. I don't even have a date for the dance yet. What about you?"

Sin had known Gwen would be visiting her family this weekend, like a lot of families. Not his, but he didn't mind. He had plans to work out and the first included a poem to Gwen. He didn't normally write poems but it was romantic he knew and if he was going to sweep her off her feet and win this bet then he was going to do it all the way. He gave the letter to his owl, Harvey while saying her name and watched the barn owl fly away.
An owl arrived at the house of the Scotts, a letter addressed to Guenivere Scotts was neatly lettered and delivered through the mail slot rather loudly by a bird that hooted like a broken alarm on its last leg of breath. There was nothing wrong with the owl but it had some odd peculiarities and was never quiet as a delivery bird. There was nothing on the envelope to indicate who or where it was from.
If opened it would read as follows:
Fly with me on moonbeams bright Into the air and into the night. Let me sweep you off your feet From now until Yule we'll meet I'll win your affection with more than a kiss It's just the begining, there's more of this.
Your eyes shine and your kiss so soft You remind me of the stars aloft Beauty for you knows no bounds For in your smile my heart is found. Until you return, my thoughts are of you dear I'll be dreaming of dancing with you, Guinivere.

The noise was so loud, it could be heard from the dining room. Xavier turned in his seat to see who it was just in time to see a piece of parchment fly through the mail slot and onto the floor. "It's a letter for us," he said. "Mind if I go get it? It could be important."

The noise interupted Gwen's answer to her brother, and Thatcher thought it was just as well. He didn't really want to hear about a boy after his daughter. No, he had arrangements for that already, and he didn't trust her to choose one on her own.
He held his hand up, keeping his youngest in his place. "Tibby will get it," he said, giving Xavier a look that said it was impolite to leave the table.
Sure enough, the little house elf came out of the kitchen, where she and Alicia were making sure the desserts were ready, and hurried to retrieve the letter.
"It is for Mistress Gwen," she announced.

Gwen looked up, surprised. Who would be sending her letters?
"Thank you, Tibby," she said to the small elf, and she tucked the letter away, knowing she'd hear it from her father if she opened it now. It was something to be saved for later, though the curiosity was eating at her.
"So, Aunt Tanya, how have things at the hospital been?"

Thane looked at his sister, wondering who would be sending her a letter at home. It had to be someone from school. "Gwen you should open it... it might be important for someone to send it to you here." He saw Justin's expression beside her was the same as his own and he knew that his oldest brother wouldn't let her get away with hiding such an oddly arriving letter.

Gwen shot Thane a look for that. She was curious about it, but it couldn't have been all that important, and he was going to get her in trouble.
If it weren't for the look from Justin, who she simply couldn't say no to, she would have let it go. Finally, she sighed and glanced at her father to make sure he wasn't watching her before she very quietly opened it under the table, trying to attract no attention.
She was careful not to blush as she read it, but she couldn't help the almost cheeky smile it gave her.

Justin raised an eyebrow at Gwen's smile as she read the letter. He leaned over and whispered, "Who do I need to kill or thank for that smile on your face, Gwenny?" He wasn't sure if he was more upset and over protective or if he was happy someone had made her smile.
