The weather was getting cooler by the day and Regina kept her jacket wrapped around her. She kept her walk slow so that way she wouldn't trip over herself. Hallie, her best friend, had been upset with her. Regina wasn't sure how things were going to play out in the tournament either. Half of her brain was focused on how Hallie was upset with her, and the other half was spilt between the tournament and her classes.
Taking a seat on the cool grass, she began to pick it the blades of grass as she glanced out towards the lake.

Thane had on his sweater though it was only half tucked in, he'd gotten distracted when he was putting it on and one side had been forgotten while he thought of something for his essay and had jotted it down before grabbing up a couple books to take out to the lake to read today.
He'd walked down through the commons before he realized he'd forgotten his shoes. Yep definitely need those to go outside he remembered and ran back up to find them. Half an hour later he emerged again with both shoes on having had to find where he'd put them. Then he walked out through the various levels of the castle until he reached the outside.
Finally he reached the edge of the lake and saw Regina Curry not far from where he was standing so he made a detour to walk over to see her and give her some congratulations for being picked the champion of their house. "Hey Regina!! Congrats on getting selected, I bet your excited." He sat down next to her on the grass without really thinking about asking.

Regina turned her head towards Thane. He was another guy that she could talk to without being extremely shy. "Thanks," she replied. Nothing about her voice implied that she was extremely excited about it. It wasn't that she didn't want to have been picked, she just wished that she could have told Hallie that she put her name in, although Regina never told anyone that she did.
"I guess I'm excited. I mean, I wasn't expecting to being picked. Of course there'll be a show at every task. As long as I don't walk out with anything seriously broken, maybe things will be alright." She gave him a shrug.
"What have you been up to Thane?"

Thane wondered why she sounded so down about being chosen. Shouldn't she be happy? "Oh you know, I've been doing the same as always... visiting the library." He held up his books "You should be happy you got chosen, I mean that should mean something if the Goblet of Fire thinks you're the most worthy to handle the tasks out of all the other Ravenclaws to put in their names. What kind of 'show' are they going to have at every task?" He would have put his name in too but he wasn't old enough. But he had faith in Regina, she really was a bright witch, even if she had trouble walking and doing anything physical. Surely the tasks she'd be able to outwit the challenges at the very least.

"Of course. I take it you finally found the other ones that you had been looking for," Regina said with a light teasing tone to her voice. Thane always seemed to forget where he put things and sometimes he forget even to put on articles of clothing. Regina remembered one time Thane came down from the boys' dorms with everything but his school pants and shoes on. She felt bad for him sometimes.
Sure, she should be happy that she was chosen, and she was, it was just Hallie. "I am excited that I was chosen, don't get me wrong, it's just Hallie's upset with me. I don't know what I can do to fix that. I don't want her to be upset with me." Regina gave a sigh. "And the show? That means anything that involves flying, running, or walking faster than I do to try and avoid tripping, then that will be a show. I'll end up tripping or something like that. I just hope I don't embarrass our house."

"No I still am missing a few that I was reading last night... took me a while to find my shoes today too.. turns out they were on top of my window sill... can't imagine why I put them up there when I took them off. But I think you can't embarrass Ravenclaw any more than I do on a daily basis." He didn't have issues being a klutz, but walking around with articles of clothing missing or your shoes untied often lead to his own embarrassment. And having a remembrall didn't help anything either... that thing was always red when he held it.
"Have you tried talking to Hallie? I mean it can't be that bad, what if you try to include her somehow. Maybe she just feels over looked. Like I dunno.. have her help you prepare for the trials or something?"

"I should. She could help me out greatly actually," she said. "I'll see if I can talk to her tonight or tomorrow. I just hope that she doesn't go off on me." She ran a hand through her brown hair. Regina wanted to talk to Hallie and let her know that she was sorry for anything she did wrong. Plus, Regina didn't think she could do this without her.
"Aw Thane, I'm sorry. I should try and help you find those books. They always end up in the oddest places. Besides, you don't embarrass us, well, me actually. I don't know about the other Ravenclaws, but you don't embarrass me at all. I'll try to help you remember things."

Thane blushed a bit, he couldn't help it.. he just always had his mind on other things. There was always something more important going on in his brain than where he put something or didn't put something. Regina was one one of the few people who didn't laugh at him, he didn't mind if she laughed with him though. He had enough of a sense of humor to laugh at himself. He knew he was like that, it's just that he couldn't help it. "Thanks, you know me.. I can't help it any more than you can help forgetting where your feet are." His grin was friendly though.

Regina laughed. "That's true. My feet have a mind of their own." Thane didn't ever laugh when she tripped, unless she laughed about it herself, and she never laughed at him unless he laughed as well. It was nice to know that there were other people that seemed to be similar to her.
"If you help my feet place themselves where they need to be, and I help you try not to forget things, I think we'll come out with a decent deal. Don't you think?"

"Maybe we could tie bells around your feet... think anyone would notice? I tried that once.. tied bells to my books.. but it didn't really help cause once i set them down they stopped ringing. Maybe you just need something else to focus on besides your feet. I mean the things I actually focus on I never forget.. it's all the things that are less important that I forget." knowledge was important.. he didn't forget things he learned.. it was stupid things like brushing his hair or wearing shoes that he usually forgot... or where he put things but that was cause he was too focused on other things to pay attention to where he put stuff down at.

"Tie bells around my feet? Seriously? You would hear them jingling so often and then a small clinging like sound as I hit the ground," Regina said. She shook her head. "I don't have a problem forgetting things, its just I have to walk twice as slow so that I won't trip. Plus, I don't know what I could find to help me not trip. That would take a while to figure out."
She looked out to the lake before pushing her hair away from her face as a breeze of autumn wind blew by. "Now you on the other hand I don't know how we can get you to remember everything, unless I remember half and you remember the other half."

"Well I dunno, I just thought you might not forget your feet if you could hear them." He winked at Regina, knowing perfectly well it would never work but it had sounded like a good theory. "Maybe I should just have you give me a "yes you're dressed" check each morning. I'm just not good at being organized but i doubt that will ever change. At least you might grow out of your issues, I think mine is hopeless."
He watched her hair blow not really realizing it. "What are you going to do for the dance? I heard that the champions had to do the first dance."

"I think I can do that," she replied with a laugh. "We can't have you walking around partially dressed going to class! Well, I can help you with being slightly more organized although you might forget where everything is. We'll figure something out."
Regina's cheeks turned a slight pink as he asked about the dance. "I don't know. I've never really tried dancing because I've always been scared that I would trip over myself while I dance! That's going to be interesting to say the least. And oh that means I have to find a date and a dress." Regina gave a sigh. She couldn't show up to the dance alone. This was going to be a hard task in itself.

"How about this... you help me stay organized and I'll try to teach you how to dance without falling. You could go with me if you want, I don't have a date either. Then I can help hold you up if you do fall. No one will be the wiser." He realized how that sounded but it wasn't intentional so he fixed his phrasing, "I mean.. Regina Curry would you be my date to the Yule Ball?" He knew it would be just as friends, but if he could help her, he would.

Even though he was asking as friends, Regina's cheeks still remained a pink tint. Maybe things would be a lot better since he could hold her up if she tripped. She was sure that no one else would. "I would be honored Mr. Scotts," she replied with a smile. "All I have to worry about is finding a dress, keeping you organized and the tournament. Now that shouldn't be too hard, should it?"
Regina picked up another blade of grass. :You're a life saver, you know that?"

Thane felt an odd thing in his stomach when she said yes but brushed it away mentally. "Why don't you ask Hallie to find a dress with you?" Isn't that something most girls liked to do? "And I have faith in you on the rest. You'll do fine, I'm sure of it. And I'll help you study if you need it, it's one of the few things I don't forget." He laughed at himself.

"I should ask her. Maybe then I could make her not so upset with me." She gave a little shrug. Hopefully things would get better, because if they didn't Regina wasn't sure if she could concentrate like she needed for the tournament.
"And thank again Thane. I'm probably going to take you up on that offer. I don't want to go at this alone, and I'm sure that if I can make Hallie happier than what she is now, then that will make it all the better." Regina started to feel excited. She had great things to look forward to. The dance wouldn't be that horrible as long as Thane kept her on her feet.

Thane smiled at her, she almost looked excited for once. He was happy he'd been able to make her smile. "So what were you doing out here by the lake anyways? Trying to contemplate if you'll need to dive to it's depths for some task? Hey have they told you guys anything about what to prepare for? Maybe it'll help you find what to study first."

"Oh yes, that is what I was doing. Contemplating on what I would need to wear in the cold waters." Regina was only joking. "I just came out here to get a bit of fresh air and to maybe clear my head. I don't even know where to begin!"
She gave a sigh and shook her head. "Everything is pretty vague. I guess that they are trying to keep us on our toes, no pun intended. I think they want you to be prepared for everything, but the thing is, I don't know what I need to prepare. I know that my spell casting is alright but it's the physical things. Like flying. My balance and riding a broom doesn't really get along that great. What if I have to do something like that? I would fall off! Not to mention I haven't touched a broom since first year."

"Then lets work on that first. Maybe if we can get you to walk without tripping it will be start right? We'll work on the think you need the most and I'll be here to catch you if you fall." He looked around for a book. He remembered seeing something like this once where girls would walk around with a book on their head to learn how to walk with grace. Maybe she just needed to relearn how to walk, and get a little confidence. He had a suspicious that half her issue was a cross between confidence and her legs being longer than some girls. Which meant she just needed to learn how to use them better.. not necessarily slower.
