Rodolphus held off the little frown, the Dark Lord trusted Lucius with private information? something Rodolphus hadn't been told? He knew he was given some special assignments, things other death eaters weren't asked to do, but why was he not given the same information? He shrugged it off and looked stern and ready for business.

Bellatrix was not oblivious to the attitude Lucius had with her, but she kept her mouth shut. The whole reason she was so insistent upon getting down to business was because she could tell Lucius had something of note to discuss. And she did not want to wait any longer to find out what it was. She was running out of patience with small talk.
To her delight, Lucius had news of the attack ordered on Hogsmeade. The attack itself was of little concern to Bellatrix, but the fact that it was Lucius and nor Claudia that was discussing it pleased her. She felt Rodolphus tense next to her and looked questioningly at him.

Rabastan just shrugged. Keeping Slytherins out of Hogsmeade would be simple enough. Not many of them ventured on the weekends with the rest of the "lesser" students anyway.
He nodded, and then, because he felt it was expected of him, gave a sly grin and said, "I can keep the girls in, anyway." He fully expected Bella to roll her eyes at this, but he didn't care. He was in a bad mood all of a sudden, and he hated being labled as a prospective Death Eater.

Lucius gave a self-important smile. "Very good. I knew I could count on the two of you. Now, of course, not all Slytherins are of the elite... some were clearly sorted incorrectly by that ratty old hat of Bumble-bore's," he grimaced in distaste. "You know who the 'right' families are. I trust your judgement."
He looked then at Bella, all traces of his previous annoyance now gone from his demeanor. "Of course, in some ways, I'd almost like to see the attack fail... since the Dark Lord chose that despicable woman to lead it. I've heard some very dodgy stories about where she came from, you know. Notice how mysterious she is about her past?"

Drawing her eyes away from Rodolphus, her expression lightened. They were going to discuss Claudia Morley. How fun! Bellatrix had a few choice words she could speak about the old hag, and here in company that would agree. Though, maybe they would not feel quite as strongly as Bella did. But she knew how eager her group of friends were to rise in the Dark Lord's ranks, and Claudia Morley was the ancient beast that stood in their way."What sort of stories?" She was intrigued to learn something she might be able to spit at Claudia during their next, inevitable 'disagreement'. Bellatrix couldn't remember hearing much about the woman before she joined with her master. However, she had heard plenty of lovely stories about her since then. Most of which were from the other older members, and they all centered around the fact that Claudia was the perfect example of faithfulness. Bell did not like these stories.

Lucius smiled again, looking rather smug. "Well, of course, there are the scandalous stories of her husband and his... accidental... death. Interestingly, she seems to have had several affairs with rich men who also turned up dead. But that's not the really scandalous rumor that I heard!" He now looked positively gleeful as he looked out at the others. Though Narcissa and Rabastan had yet to meet the odious woman, they'd certainly be interested to hear the scandalous rumor he'd uncovered in Germany while he'd been away...

Rodolphus laughed "Just another 'evilier than thou' Tramp that has attacheted herself to the cause." he waved Morley away as merely that and nothing more, "once you know what she is, she's not much of a threat." he added nodding knowingly.

So Morley was a Black Widow. Bellatrix was very interested in this bit of news. She hadn't heard anything about it before but it hardly came as a surprise. Claudia seemed the type. A gold-digger. She wanted to hear the even more scandalous rumors but Rodolphus' comment threw her. Sure, Bella agreed with the first thing he had said, that Claudia was a wicked tramp. But it was the last part that offended her. She looked at him accusingly. "Who's threatened by her?" Perhaps he had not meant the comment to be directed at her, but she felt attacked by it nevertheless.

Rodolphus was surprised, he hadn't the directed the comment at his Bella, but rather the men of the table. "Not me, I assure you my love, she's so coarse!" he said trying to smooth the feathers he had ruffled. "I'm certain Lucius also saw what she was and saw fit to find such news about her!" he said not wanting to make Lucius out to be a gossiper, that would be of course rude. "He was concerned, I'm sure, not only for me but for Rabastan." he added, sure to add more justification to his comment.

Rabastan looked up, raising his eyebrows. His brother kept trying to save his own ass using him as an excuse, and Rabasta didn't like it. He knew Rodolphus was trying to play peace keeper.
Well, he thought. Let's make it a little more difficult.
"Oh?" He said, sitting forward. "And how do you know he was concerned for me as well? The same way you knew I was vying for the Dark Lord's time? Because surely neither of us said anything to you."
There, let that create a lover's spat. Either Rabastan would know that Voldemort had mentioned the letter to his brother, or Bella would know that Rodolphus had been lying.

Lucius watched with interest as Bella and Rodolphus began to argue, and Rabastan attempted to stir them up further. It almost seemed to him that Bella was already one of the Lestranges. The strange dynamics in that family were amusing to him. It made him all the more pleased to have his darling Narcissa. She suited him perfectly, a true paragon of propriety and good breeding. She would not resort to sniping and backstabbing, like Bella would do.
Not that he had anything against Bella. She was a good friend, after all. But he knew that her temperament was far more suited to Rodolphus than to him.
"Honestly, my concern is not for us, but for the Dark Lord himself," he replied, cutting into the disagreement. "I feel that his trust in her is misplaced and that her ambitions are for herself and not for Him. I believe she is not as devoted to the cause as she would have him believe, and that her true interest is in death for death's sake."

Rodolphus smiled tightly at his brother, what a bastard. "Ah but Rabastan, I'm sure you'd ask me, not as if you'd get anywhere on your own." he put in meanly. He listened to what Lucius had to say and agreed. "I believe you Lucius, truly I wouldn't want my brother to fall into those claws of her, thus my concern." he narrowed his eyes at his brother. Honestly if he hadn't wanted to come, he could of fained illness!

Rabastan smiled, despite the dig from his brother. So he had been bluffing. Talk about being a bastard. He refused to let Lucius stop the argument at this point, however much he knew this should be done in private. Rodolphus deserved a scene, and since Rabastan didn't have an impending marriage of his own to keep safe and on track, he didn't care what he said or did.
"Would I ask you?" He said casually. "How can you be sure..." he trailed off, and pulled the black ribbon from his pocket, the one that had turned into a snake in front of him. He sincerely hoped he would see some sort of recognition from his brother, and that it meant something good, or he would lose this argument very quickly. He set it on the table in front of his brother.

Rodolphus raised an eyebrow and gave his brother a patornzing smile, "So you sent him a message and got a ribbon in return?" he asked leaning back in his chair and laughing airily. "And that means what exactly then?" he asked snidely. So he tried on his own. He couldn't help but feel a bit proud, but he was being a pain.

Well, damn it.
Rabastan faltered for a moment. That wasn't exactly how he pictured this going. Yes, Rodolphus recognized it, and he obviously knew what it meant, leaving Rabastan ten steps behind, as ever. He hated it so much when his brother patronized him, and he had no way of getting back at him for this.
He reached for the ribbon. "Well, it's not a no, now is it?"

"Oh, leave him alone Rodolphus. It takes a lot of courage to send Lord Voldemort a letter. Did you do that? No! I got you in. Don't forget about that when you're on your high horse." Bellatrix was getting annoyed with the turn of conversation. She had wanted to hear more about that nastly Claudia woman, not bicker about Rabastan's induction.

Rodolphus pouted, "Yes you did, but then again you love me don't you?" Bella was so mean to him. He never could have his fun. He sat up then and said "I'll still be willing to set up a meeting, if you should want it." he said putting a hand on the table closer to Bella .

His cowardice annoyed her, but she could tell the others at the table were either getting too much enjoyment out of this, or they were aggravated by their bickering. Bellatrix caved. "Yes, of course. And I was happy to arrange things for you. But- Just let your brother alone. Be happy for him at least." Her voice was still commanding, but there was a sweeter edge to it. He didn't always need to pick on Rabastan like he did. Of course, Rabastan didn't need to stir things up as he had. The two of them together, it was bound to happen. And Bellatrix could rarely be considered level headed. A fine family they were to be.

Rabastan raised his eyebrows at his brother. He was thankful to Bella for calling him out on the circumstances regarding his own induction, and while he didn't need the girl to stick up for him, he didn't say anything negative to her. Besides, it embarrased his brother, so the way he saw it, he owed her one.
He nodded once to thank her, giving credit where it was due, and fell silent, giving the floor back to Lucius, should he want it.

Lucius glanced at each one of them in turn, and amused look on his face. "Well, now, if you are quite finished," he said, a hint of annoyance in his voice, "I will continue with what I was saying. I suspect this will be of particular interest to you, Bella, considering how often I've heard you mention your distaste for the woman."
Clearing his throat, he took a glance around, then leaned across the table towards Bella. "What I heard in my travels is that Ms. Morley may not actually be a pureblood. As I understand it, in fact, she was raised as a muggle! I was unable to find out much about her parentage, because most people who were close to her in her youth have died under mysterious circumstances. But I did get one tidbit--it seems she may be related to your new employer--Professor Isabella Rothschild!"
