Rodolphus couldn't believe it, all they had was a demonstration of what the mark was and Lucius was getting to learn it first. He sipped his wine and thought the table would collapse under the weight of Lucius's ego. "So" he took a bite of his lamb and said after chewing "You're happy to be the false dark lord?"

Lucius didn't allow his smile to waver. It was so like Rodolphus to try to cast doubt in others to cover his own jealousy. Annoying git. Why was he friends with him again?
"Yes, of course. I only aim to serve the Dark Lord, and not to be the Dark Lord myself. I humbly realize that I could never hope to reach his kind of power and greatness. I suppose you think you'd do a better job, Rodolphus?"

"Rodolphus thinks he could be a better Dark Lord, much less a better fake one. Please go on, Lucius," Rabastan said, leaning forward. Though he had been quiet, he was intrigued, especially that he was including Narcissa and himself in on this. And he wouldn't say it in front of his brother, but he wanted to be a part of this. Bad.
He could hear the jealousy from both Bellatrix and his brother, and he thought this was rather than wrong time for it. Something big was being planned, and he wanted to get all of the details that Lucius was willing to share.

"Nonsense Rabastan, I'm not that arrogant." he sipped his wine again and swirled the glass. watching the wine's 'legs' as it fell back into the rest of the liquid. "I supposed I phrased it rudely, but What disguise are you going to use Lucius? So that everyone will know you're the leader of the attack, and not some upstart?" He knew this was equally just as rude, but smiled as if he didn't realize that he was being rude.

Lucius scowled at Rodolphus. It was so typical of him to take such a skeptical attitude. Had he been in on the plan from the start, he would have taken a completely different stance on the plan. He certainly wouldn't have been asking so many questions. At least, that's how Lucius saw it. He felt Rodolphus was just being snippy just because he could.
"Well, if you must know the details," Lucius said icily, "I'll be taking a small group of three death eaters with me. I'm allowed to pick two of them, and I was thinking of choosing you and Bella." He gave Rodolphus a nasty look that implied he might reconsider this decision. "The third will be that ridiculous oaf, Logan VanHelsing. The three of us will go into town, wearing robes and masks. I will be wearing a different color than the rest, and a different mask. We are going to find that ridiculous woman, Bambi Ackart, and we're going to kill her and destroy her house. Then, when we leave, I will kill VanHelsing right out in the street, then leave the Dark Mark above the house, as Voldemort has been teaching me."
Now smug, Lucius leaned back in his seat, with his hands behind his back.

Bellatrix's interest was sparked once again, all trace of jealousy gone from her voice. "You're killing Logan?!" There was almost too much excitement in her voice, considering they were speaking of a fellow Death Eater. She and Logan never got on. He had always been horrid to her, for no reason at all. Every time they had had an encounter, it had always started off with a nice chat, Bellatrix nicely stating her opinion of Logan. It wasn't her fault he disagreed. And then he would lash out at her, often cursing her. Being older and more experienced, he had bested her many times. Well now it was his turn to fall.
"Oh Lucius, you have to tell me everything! Why Logan? What did he do?"

Lucius smirked. He knew Bella would be impressed with this bit of news. "Oh, nothing," he said gleefully. "Nothing at all. Of course, that's part of the problem. The Dark Lord feels Logan is utterly useless. And he finds the man annoying. So, he thinks that if I kill one of my own followers right out in the street, it will be certainly send the message that I'm supposedly in charge." He laughed. "Better yet, the idiot is to believe that I really am the Dark Lord... we're not going to tell him the truth. So he'll treat me as if I'm Voldemort, but when his back is turned, I'm going to kill him. is that not perfect?"

"Brilliant! The Dark Lord has really outdone himself with this plan. And I can't say that Logan doesn't deserve it. I mean, the man is an absolute nightmare. Remember darling," she said to Rodolphus who still seemed aggravated, "when he attacked me in the cemetery? If the Dark Lord could have only seem that then." He certainly wouldn't have stood for Logan's behavior toward me.
"Please, Lucius. Say you'll still pick us to join you. I want to see it when it happens."

"My dear, I wouldn't dream of denying you the pleasure of seeing that fool die," Lucius replied smoothly. "Of course you may come along. Who else would I bring? Morley? Honestly, Bella, I wouldn't trust any of those other imbeciles as far as I could throw them. My only question, really," he added, pausing for dramatic effect, "is whether I take your ungrateful fiance, or his brother."
He looked from Rodolphus to Rabastan and back again, arching his eyebrow meaningfully. He wondered if Rodolphus was intrigued enough to argue. "Sure, Rabastan, you have not yet met with the Dark Lord, but I, for one, am confident of your acceptance."

Rabastan looked up when he heard Lucius' comment. He was only half paying attention to the conversation, vaguely wondering why the hell he was even here. But that comment had his attention.
"I'm rather confident myself. Would the Dark Lord object to having a new member of the ranks with you?" he asked, trying to keep the excitement out of his voice. "Because I want it," he finished boldly, confidently.

Lucius smiled. "I knew you'd be interested, Rabastan. And I, for one, admire your eagerness. I would certainly have to check with the Dark Lord first, of course. But judging by his response to your letter, which, despite your brother's pessimistic response, is actually quite favorable... I rather think he'll be intrigued by your desire to get started. After all, a mission like this, if done well, is likely to make quite an impact. The only question would be whether or not you'd lose your nerve... and I somehow doubt that would happen. But I wonder, can your older brother give me a good reason why I shouldn't choose you?
He looked directly at Rodolphus, his eyebrow raised.

Rodolphus sighed and said "Do you honestly think the Dark Lord would allow you such presumption? You know he hates anyone second guessing him." he looked slyly at his brother "But if you want to go ahead and play a game you don't know all the rules too, you are more than welcome Rabastan. I'm already in good favor over what I've done." He looked at his nails spotting a bit of something on his nail and brushing it off on his napkin "I Lucius, am not ungrateful, I'm merely considering all the options." he said smiling. "You and I have a lot in common, who else could you really trust to do what is really needed?" he asked with his smile taking on a tainted look.

Rabastan gave his brother a look of slight disdain, and wondered why he ever tried to impress the man.
"That's rich, Rodolphus," he said in a low voice with feigned apathy. "Of the two of us, I would hardly think I was doing any of the second-guessing." He accentuated the comment with a half shrug and a slight upward movement of his eyebrows, but said no more to him.
He looked back at Lucius. "It's ultimately up to you. Just know that *I* have no problem with you leading this little expadition."

Bellatrix rolled her eyes and looked over at Narcissa as the Lestrange boys discussed who's was bigger. Men. Everything was always a competition with them. And unfortunately, Rodolphus seemed the worst of the gang. But it was his ambition that attracted her after all. "Perhaps you should just take Narcissa," she interjected, simply to watch their expression at the ridiculous suggestion.

Lucius knew what she was doing, trying to break up the tension between the brothers. And he knew he was supposed to find it funny, his innocent Narcissa going on a raid where two murders were expected to take place. But somehow, Lucius wasn't laughing. It brought to mind an ugly image; Narcissa's beautiful face twisted in hatred, her gentle grace and sophistication warped into violence and bloodlust. It was one thing to involve Bellatrix in the murder. He knew she was capable of it. But what was he dragging Narcissa into? He had thought he wanted Cissa to become a Death Eater, like himself, but he didn't want that image to become a reality. He wanted his Cissa to be pure and lovely... the woman he loved.
His only question was, would Narcissa be disappointed if he told her he didn't want her to be a Death Eater?

Why did Lucius have to be so serious all the time. Bellatrix was clearly joking and Lucius looked as though she had killed his mother. "Come off it Lucius. I was kidding. Merlin, you need to lighten up." She ate more of her dinner and rolled her eyes once more. f*ck these boys were difficult. If they weren't so useful she'd just start shagging women and be done with them all.

Lucius cleared his throat and took a sip from his glass of wine. "Yes, of course, Bella," he said, giving a hollow laugh. "I was just thinking about something, that's all. I think I will talk the the Dark Lord and ask if he would allow Rabastan to go on this mission as a test. He did allow me to make my own choice, which shows he trusts my judgement, does it not? I think Rabastan will do fine."
It would be a relief not to have Rodolphus there, second guessing him and trying to take over. The man's ego was enormous.
