Bellatrix's brow furrowed as Rodolphus mentioned Lucius and Narcissa marrying, and not Bellatrix and Rodolphus themselves. Perhaps he wasn't as clueless as she had thought him to be. Perhaps she was letting on too much. She knew, deep down, her love for the Dark Lord would be unrequited. She would never admit that, not even to herself. But her subconscious was acutely aware of it. And in that tiny bead of knowledge she knew she couldn't waste what she had with Rodolphus. It wasn't smart. He could give her anything she desired and would take care of her. Love, while a nice part of many marriages, was in fact a luxury. One that she knew she could live without if necessary. Attempting to patch the gap that seemed to be slowly growing between them she added, "And don't forget about us, darling. Marriage won't change our values."
But, careful not to stay on that subject for long, she returned to the previous point. "But still, that woman... She acts as though she is the first woman with a job and a baby. Having to take on an assistant so she can stay with that little twerp. If she had any common sense she would hire a nanny like our mum did and have that woman raise the kid." Bellatrix was known for her dislike of children and infants. To everyone, it seemed, but Isabella Rothschild. That actually worked in her favor.

He smiled at her then, maybe she was just too concerned with her orders with the dark lord, they were, after all, quickly climbing the ranks of Death Eaters. They had all been given important duties. he tutted and placed a hand over hers, to gage her reaction. "Oh my love, I thought we went without saying!" he said looking to see how she held his hand, if it was the same as it had been "This won't be the first time you use their naivete against them? isn't darling? I believe you have used that to your advantage before, haven't you?" he asked to weigh the words, as if they could have a tangible weight and substance.

Happy to see that he had made a pleasant remark to hers, she squeezed the tips of his fingers that curled over the back of her hand and into her palm. She smiled as she remembered her last task involving the Rothschilds. "Its a wonder that woman ever leaves her son with that buffoon she calls a husband. The idiot can barely watch over himself, let alone a child. They were asking for it, if you ask me. Pity that traitor Charles got in the way." It almost pained her to think about Charles and his fatal attempt to defend Isabella. She had had a short lived affair with him, and was blinded by the passion to see that he was actually using her. But her thoughts and emotions about that particular part of Charles' character was kept hidden from her face and the rest of their party.

It was a little heartening to feel her hold his hand. to hear her talk of her triumphs, He would have to be very careful with her now, She wouldn't ever want to call of their wedding or relationship it was too much of a 'smart match' and he knew it, but all he ever really wanted from her is her love. That he wanted exclusive rights to, that was his and never anyone Else's.

Lucius noticed one of the waiters lurking about, obviously hoping that they would soon be ready to place their dinner orders. "Well, if everyone is done sampling the hors d'oeuvres, perhaps we should peruse the menus and see what we'd like for dinner. I certainly wouldn't want to rush anyone along, but I do think the staff is getting antsy."
He picked up a couple of menus, handing one to Narcissa and keeping the other for himself. As he did, he gave the waiter a meaningful look, which caused the man to scurry away nervously.

Rodolphus gave the menu a bored glance, but the lamb caught his eye, he had never heard of Catus and lamb, he had never heard of anyone eating cactus before in his life! he of course acted as if it was all very over done and jaded and decided to tell the waiter to bring that for him. He wondered if Lucius would be put out if he ordered a Shiraz wine instead of the champagne that Lucius had provided. As much as it was pleasing on a clean palate, he was in no mood to have a sparkling white wine with red meat. It just wasn't done in polite circles, not that he expected Lucius to want to gear them toward chicken and fish! and if he had, the of all the nerve!
((I would Like to put in, that yes cactus is actually very good and you all should try it!))

Bellatrix had nearly forgotten about the menus during their discussion. For an instant she thought Lucius was being ridiculous, they had ordered ages ago. But no, she had just been so wrapped up in everything else that she had hardly noticed they hadn't been there, together, for very long at all. She glanced at the menu. The Steak Au Poivre seemed to pop out at her, so she ordered that with steamed vegetables. Bellatrix too wanted wine with her dinner. This fizz of the champagne was getting to her. She leaned over to Rodolphus and quietly asked, " Shall we get a wine as well, darling?"

Rodolphus smiled at Bella "Ah, reading my mind are you darling? Yes I believe we should order a dinner wine." he leaned in close to her ear and whispered "the bubbly wine just isn't to taste for a dinner." and he kissed the shell of her ear. He didn't want to seem to forward, as he thought before it was all about appearances.

Lucius leaned in close to Narcissa, holding his menu up for them both to see. "What do you think, my love? Shall we share in the Côte de Boeuf for two? We could order some red wine as well, to go with our beef. While the champagne is exquisite, it is hardly intended to go with our dinners."
Looking at the others, he added, "Please, feel free to order wine or whatever you prefer. I'll spare no expense, I assure you."

Narcissa took her menu and opened it, trying to decide what she wanted. As Lucius leaned in close to her, she gracefully closed her menu and peered onto his, leaning in a little as well so that she could read it. She thought about the Côte de Boeuf for two for a moment as Lucius spoke to the others.
After he spoke, she looked up to his face. "I believe the Côte de Boeuf for two will be perfect, as well as the red wine," she said with a smile.

Lucius beamed and gave her a chaste kiss on the lips. "Perfect, my darling," he said. He was looking forward to eating dinner, not just because of the meal, but because he wanted to discuss some of the urgent business he had on his mind. He knew, as soon as the food came, the waiters would discreetly disappear for a while. The time was coming soon for the Dark Lord to demonstrate his power, and he wanted to make sure he and his friends were involved.

Since she and Rodolphus had been the first to order, they were free to chat quietly while the others relayed they're orders to the waiter. "Do you think you will be free this evening, after supper? I was hoping to speak with you about an old friend." She was using the word 'friend' loosely, as Dean had really never been either of their friend at any point. But she had told the boy she would arrange for him to speak with someone. And perhaps flattering Rodolphus with this meeting would make him stop looking at her questioningly from the corner of his eye.

It was times like this when Rabastan remembered why he was never serious with a girl. For one, marriages were not about love. They were strictly political. Two, he could never, never see himself acting so unabashedly gushy and lovey with any woman, and certanly not around other people. For Merlin's sake, Narcissa and Lucius were sharing a meal!
He ordered something simple, and a glass of white wine to go with it. After handing his menu to the waiter, he listened quietly to both couple, picking up just little tidbits of each of their conversations, but kept to himself.

Rodolphus tutted again "Now, is he an 'old friend' Then it would seem maybe I could arrange a time for him, then again, I'm sure you realize that Rabastan is also vying for a more private meeting as well?" he asked motioning toward his brother. There wasn't too much brotherly feeling between them, knowing that he would inherit first and the Rabastan to either live at his ribs or make his own perilous way, but he was inclined to help his brother. She would have to understand that he had to, in his way, put his brother before any new acquaintance she had made.

Now that their orders had been placed, Lucius felt free to discuss some more private matters. But, seeing that Rodolphus was busy in conversation with Bella and Rabastan, he turned to Narcissa. "Really, my dear, I feel sorry for you, stuck in that muggle-lover's school. If I didn't know that Bella was close by, and Rabastan and your cousin Regulus were about, I would worry for your safety andwell-being. You even look a bit pale. You haven't been missing me too terribly, have you, love?"

She wasn't really expecting the response that Rodolphus had given her. And though he did not put down the idea altogether, he made it clear he had other priorities over her wishes. But she couldn't fault him just yet. Rabastan was family after all. At least, he was Rodolphus' family. And that was close enough that Bellatrix didn't say anything more on the subject.
She did, however, overhear the most nauseating conversation on the other side of the table. "I'm sure there are other handsome boys for Narcissa to play with if she were lonesome, Lucius." She giggled so that he would know she was joking. If she had even acted serious, Bellatrix had no doubt Lucius would be a right more than pissed off.
"Now that we're alone," she said, noticing the waiter had finally disappeared into the kitchen. "Was there something of importance you wanted to discuss Lucius?"

Lucius didn't have any idea how much she missed him. It wasn't an obsessive type of missing, it was just that she didn't have anyone that she could talk with. Sure, Rabastan was there, but he was usually off with some girl; Regulus was so young, Bella was a teaching assistant, so there wasn't much time that she could talk with her sister, and Severus, well, he was too close to that Ravenclaw girl.
She was about to answer, but Bella cut her off. Narcissa turned to her sister and gave her a 'why-did-you-say-that' type of look. There weren't any other boys at the school that she considered worth messing with.
The mood turned to more of a serious one as Bella asked about an important discussion. Narcissa glanced back up to Lucius as a little bit of pride could be shown in her eyes, awaiting his answer.

Lucius completely ignored Bella's ridiculous suggestion about Cissa and other guys. He knew full well that the population of eligible and acceptable young men remaining at the school was severely diminished. The only other person remotely worthy of Cissa was Rabastan, and he assumed that Rabastan knew better than to even think about touching her. Lucius was pretty sure Rabastan understood that Lucius would have to kill him if he even thought of it.
He was mildly annoyed and Bella's insistence on returning to business. He had something to give to Cissa and had planned to do it then. But, alas, it would have to wait.
"Very well," Lucius said crisply, making his annoyance known even as he remained fastidiously polite. "We shall get down to business." Waving a hand at the two remaining waiters in the back of the room, he waited until they left the room. "Now, then. Those of us who were at the last Death Eater meeting are, no doubt, aware of the planned attack on Hogsmeade. But those of us who were not... we need to discuss the particulars of this event."

Rabastan sighed quietly and leaned back, making a mental note to politely refuse the next dinner invitation. As fun as this was, watching the two couples be completely, nauseatingly, coupley, and having them talk about things he was clueless about, he didn't care to do it again.
Ever.
He glanced at Narcissa, because she was the only one other than him that didn't know what was going on (and thank Merlin for that), then back at Lucius. "Are you sure you're allowed to discuss such things with non Death Eaters?" he asked, keeping his letter to Voldemort a secret for now.

Lucius took a quick sip from his glass of champagne. "I've spoken to Him about this very subject," he said, his voice mellowing. "He said that, of course, we need to make certain that the 'right kind of people' are not put at risk. After all, we intend to create an atmosphere by which we--those of us from old, pureblood families--can dominate those from lesser families. That will not work if any of us are killed in this attack." He lowered his voice at this last part. "Rabastan, you and Narcissa are, of course, prospective Death Eaters. As such, I have permission to speak to the two of you on this subject. You are to use your influence on the Slytherins to keep them out of Hogsmeade next Saturday. Don't tell them why... arrange something to keep them at Hogwarts. Can you do that?"
