Angelique laughed. "Yeah, she does that," she replied. "She's definitely an odd one." She took a sip of her drink, then set it down on the table. "I saw you were talking to that guy. The one that's with your ex. What did you say to him?"

Edmund shrugged. "Oh, nothing, really," he said casually as he sipped his martini. "I was merely making conversation. Just wanted to see what kind of guy Claire is interested in these days."

Angelique looked at him over the top of her glass for a long moment. "Why would that matter?" she asked bluntly. "Unless... oh, no... you're still not over her, are you?" She set down her glass and reached across the table to place her hand on top of his.

Edmund hated to play the sympathy card. He didn't care for being an object of pity. However, he also sensed that this was the only thing that had worked for him with this woman. And he had to win this bet. So he blinked a few times and worked up some fake tears. "Yes, it's true," he said in a strained voice. "I've tried everything, but I simply can't get her out of my system. She has an ironclad grip on my heart, and I just can't break free. And yet, you see how little I mean to her." He waved in the direction of the dance floor, where Claire was again dancing with the blue shirt guy. "Just look at her carrying on. She doesn't even miss me!"

"Oh, there, there!" Angelique cried, setting down her drink again and rushing over to his side. She put her arms around him and held him close, patting his back reassuringly. "There's someone else out there for you, I'm sure of it. Good looking guy like you could have anyone you want. It'll be OK, you'll see," she said.

Tristan led Claire back to the dance floor, where they began dancing very close. It almost seemed like there was no one else in the room at that moment but the two of them. He shifted slightly so that his mouth was just next to her ear, and began blowing into it lightly.

Claire had to admit, he was a pretty good dancer. She closed her eyes as he began to blow in her ear, and she laughed quietly. She had a sudden flashback of a similar scene, but she was with a different person. Claire swallowed, and pushed the thought away. She had to win this bet, because she didn't really want Edmund to win and her have to do whatever he had in mind. In a way, she wouldn't really mind him winning, however, she didn't want him gloating about it. Claire moved her arms up around his neck.

Tristan began to nibble on her ear just a little as they swayed to the music. "You're awfully quiet all of a sudden. What are you thinking about?" he asked her.

Claire closed her eyes. "Sorry. I was just thinking how much fun I've had tonight," said Claire. "That's about it." She gave him a smile. "What are you thinking about?"

Tristan smiled at her. "To be honest, I was just thinking about getting out of here," he said. "With you, of course. But your ex-boyfriend over there keeps looking this way and it's kinda freaking me out. I thought it would be nice if we went somewhere a little more... private?"

Claire laughed. "Hm, I think that sounds like a nice idea," she said. "He is started to scare me a bit with all his staring. Where would you like to go? We could go to my place, where it's quite. No one's there but me, or we could go to yours."

Edmund continued his fake crying while Angelique held him in her arms. "Do... do you really think so?" he asked, sniffling. "Do you really think it's possible for me to move on?" He pulled up and looked at her, blinking against his moistened eyes. Being able to cry on cue was one of the most important lessons he'd learned from his mother. She used the fake tears to get whatever she wanted.

"Oh, of course," Angelique said, patting his back. "You know what they say, there's plenty of fish in the sea, and all that stuff. Trust me, I'm sure you can do better. I mean, look, you're with me right now, aren't you?"

"Yes, that's true," Edmund said, giving an exaggerated sniffle. "But you barely like me. I mean, you said yourself that I seemed fake to you. It's just... I'm usually not that good at opening up...." He glanced up at her with his eyes squinted in pretended agony, trying to see if he could tell what she was feeling by her expression.

"I like you," Angelique said. "I mean, you're certainly nice to look at. And now, look... you're not being fake. You're opening your heart to me, and sharing your feelings... that's not a bad thing at all. You just have to stop trying so hard with women... we like honesty, not pretense. I know I value honesty above pretty much everything else. That's why I speak so bluntly."

Edmund gave her a watery smile. He couldn't believe how well this was working! He'd have felt ashamed of himself for using pity to get the girl... if not for the bet. He had to beat Claire... and it seemed she was doing better than he was. So he gave one last desperate look back at Claire and her guy, who were dancing very close, and let out a loud sob. "I just cannot bear to stay here, with them carrying on in this manner right in front of me. Please... let us get out of here."

Angelique nodded sympathetically. "Of course. I'll take you home, and we can talk a little more there." She stood up and held out her hand to him.

No one's there but me, or we could go to yours." Tristan smiled. "That sounds great," he said, planting a light kiss on her neck. "Hmm... which place is closer? I live in the Black Cat Apartments, just outside Hogsmeade Village...."

"Well, that's strange," replied Claire. "That's where I stay. I've never seen you there. Well, it doesn't really matter who's apartment we go to. I'm on the 3rd Floor."

"Really?" Tristan said. "I didn't know you lived there, too. I'm on the first floor. Strange that we never saw each other... but then, I do tend to have some strange hours." He puled her down into a dip, then kissed her quickly before letting her back up. "Well, then, why don't we go to my place... since it's right on the bottom floor...." He winked at her.
