Claire walked with her head held high as she entered the club. Not many were in, but yet she was early. She wanted time to herself before all the no goods started to pour in. Claire tossed her blond hair over her shoulder and sat at the bar. As she did, through the door came a group of guys. Just to be nice she smiled and gave a little wave with her fingers. She laughed to herself and ordered her regular.

Edmund strolled into the nightclub, a bored expression on his face. He took off his perfectly tailored jacket and threw it over his shoulder, then tipped his hat to a rakish angle. Almost immediately, he saw women's eyes drift toward him, and he gave them a lazy smile as he passed by, not stopping to talk to any of them. Leave them wanting more, that was his motto.
He walked up to the bar and ordered a martini, then gave the girl behind the bar a little wink, so that she was so flustered, she nearly dropped the glass. It was almost boring how easy it was becoming. Once he had his drink in his hand, he slowly turned and surveyed the crowd. He nearly fell over when he spotted a familiar face. Silently cursing himself for nearly losing his cool in front of the woman who had gotten away, he took a smooth sip from his glass, then wandered over to where she was standing. "Well, hello, Claire," he said casually. "Long time, no see. If I didn't know better, I'd say you were avoiding me."

The sudden motion of the girl behind the bar caught Claire's eye. She observed from the corner of her eye, the slightly groaned. It could be one of two things: The girl was accident prone, or it could be a certain person. Claire rolled her eyes and turned her attention to her drink. The more she didn't think about him, the better off she was, but of course it wasn't going to be to easy if he showed up everywhere.
"Well, I wouldn't go as far as saying avoiding," said Claire looking up to meet his eyes. "Just simply not in the same places as you are, or maybe I am, and you just don't see me, because you're too busy." She give him a slight wink then turned to her drink and finished it.

Edmund raised an eyebrow at her. "Too busy?" he repeated, amused. "What? Just because women can't quite seem to stay away from me? I can hardly help it, you know. It's just such a terrible burden to be me. You aren't jealous, are you? Most of them aren't nearly attractive enough to deserve my attention. You, however, are looking lovely as always. How have you been?"

"Oh, I'm sure it is such a terrible burden," replied Claire with sarcasm dripping from every word. "Me, jealous, of you?" At the thought, Claire laughed. "You wish. I wouldn't want women staring at me all the time, nor trying to hit on me. I have enough to deal with as it is." She ordered another drink. "Of course. I have to," she replied with a wink. "I've been well I suppose you would say. What about you?"

Edmund chuckled. "Oh, very funny... of course I was asking if you were jealous of the women, not of me. As it is, I'm sure you've got men lining up to get close to you... if the women started, you'd never get a chance to breathe!" He leaned against a chair and took a slow sip from his drink. "I've been well, of course. Bored, but well. It seems like there's nothing to challenge me anymore. I guess that's why you're here." He gave her a flirtacious wink.

"Why would I be jealous of them exactly," questioned Claire. "I'm taking a break from sorting through the men. It's very tedious. None of them fit the bill quite well enough." She picked up her glass. Before taking a drink she smiled at him. "That's all I'm good for? A challenge?" She laughed and shook her head.

"Hmm, why would you be jealous of them?" he teased. He moved a little closer to her and ran his finger along her jawline. Lowering his voice to a deep, husky tone, he gave her a sleepy smile and said, "Believe me, you're good for a lot more than just a challenge...."

When Edmund ran his finger down her jawline, Claire thought that she was going to melt, but she didn't show it of course. Who would she be if she let him see how he could affect her so? A smirk started to play on her lips, and her hand to his chest, leaning closer to him. "You're opinion, as well as any other guy's," said Claire in a whisper.

Edmund moved even closer to her. "And just who are these other guys?" he said. "I may just have to hunt them down and kill them, you know." He put his arm around her, touching the small of her back. "You are looking stunning tonight, have I told you? I'd ask you to dance if not for the nauseating garbage that passes for music in here."

Claire simply laughed. "It's just about every guy's opinion, and you'll do no such thing," said Claire. "You've told me something like that already. I should be flattered really, but it's coming from you after all. The man who makes women do whatever he wants them to do. What makes you think I would want to dance with you anyway?"

"I never could get you to do what I wanted," Edmund said. "You always had your own mind about things..." He kept his voice light and his smile fixed on his face. He couldn't let her see how her ability to resist his charms frustrated and excited him. "I seem to recall you once telling me that I was an excellent dancer. I believe we were dancing a tango in a little place on the French Riviera. Don't you want to give it a go, just for old time's sake?"

"Ah yes. That was awhile ago," replied Claire. "Are you sure that you can still dance well?" Claire gave him a smirk and moved as close as she could to him. "Well, I think you probably can. Plus, it'll make the people that's in here quite jealous, and I dare say that that will be by far the most amusing thing I've done all day."

"Yes, I dare say that all eyes will be on us, just like they were on that night," Edmund said with a smile. He pulled back and took her hand, leading her onto the dance floor. Almost as if they knew it was expected, the crowd sort of parted to clear the way for them. With his cool smile, he moved forward to stand very close to her, then began the tango.

Claire smiled as they walked through the crowd, although she made her smile turn into a smirk when Edmund turned around. She began to dance along with him.
She grinned as they finished and tried to catch her breath. Moving so close to him like that was, well, breath-taking. Being able to just seem to float carelessly across the floor. Claire brought herself out of her thoughts. "Well, it seems that you can still dance extremely well, and the most amusing part is here. It seems as if some people can't close their mouths," she said with a grin.

"Well, you remember what I always used to say about dancing," Edmund replied casually, trying not to let her see how the dance had affected him as well. "It's the best way for two people to be completely intimate in a room full of people." He smiled. "I've won over many women while my tango... and one of these days, I swear it will work on you." He winked. "I'm glad to see you haven't lost your talent at it as well."

Claire reached up and touched his cheek. "You keep thinking that sweetheart," said Claire. "It's just a dance. It hasn't worked on me yet, so don't get your hopes up." She gave him a wink. She let her hand fall back to her side and started to head back towards the bar.

Edmund watched her as she walked towards the bar. Oh, how he loved to watch her walk away. What was it about her that enticed and excited him so? She was the only one who could do it to him. And although she was very beautiful, he'd dated women that were even more beautiful than she was. He'd had no problems tossing them aside when he was bored of them. But Claire... he could never quite seem to reach her. No matter how close he was standing to her, she was always an arm's length away.
He took another sip from his glass and silently surveyed the room. There were other women here who were equally, if not more beautiful than she was. He could have any one of them. So why couldn't he stay away from her? Was it really just the challenge? As he spotted a particularly stunning brunette not far away, he silently told himself that yes, that was all it was. It had to be. He wasn't capable of anything else. He loved the thrill of the hunt, and no one else provided the challenge that she did.
Yes, that was it. He set down his glass and looked back towards the bar, then over at the brunette. To talk to her or wait for Claire... Oh, the decisions...

When Claire reached the bar, she shook her head. Why was she attractive to him the way she was? Maybe because he was truly handsome. No, that wasn't it completely. Maybe in the way he did things. She didn't know for sure what it was. However, she did know that she wasn't going to give him the satisfaction he desired. Oh no. It was more fun this way. Besides, she knew that if she gave in completely, then he would just toss her to the side and probably never come to her again, so where's the fun and enjoyment in that?
Claire's eyes landed on Edmund and noticed he was staring at something. She followed his gaze to a brunette. She had to admit the girl was pretty. Claire shook her head and smirked. It appeared he had better things on his mind than talk to her tonight. In a way it was disappointing to her, but of course, she wasn't going to show it. She drifted over to Edmund and stood behind him, placing a hand on his shoulder and leaned down right to his ear. "Go for it. You know you want to," she whispered.

Edmund looked over at the brunette, then back at Claire. "Oh, her? She doesn't compare to you." He said it almost automatically, but in a way, it was true. Would the brunette keep him busy for more than a few minutes? He rather doubted it. Still, he felt almost annoyed that Claire would tell him to go for the girl. If she would only show a hint of jealousy...
He took a final sip from his martini glass and smiled at her passively. "Tell you what, though. How about a challenge? Between the two of us? I'll go talk to the brunette, and you can find a guy you like and talk to him, and we'll see who gets the person to agree to go home with them first. What do you say?"
