Edmund was dancing only a few feet away, watching their every move over Angelique's shoulder. As much as he liked Angelique, he had a hard time keeping his eyes off of Claire. They kept laughing and touching, and now they were standing very close as they danced. His jaw tightened as she waved at him. She was enjoying this! When the blue shirt guy nuzzled her neck, Edmund nearly exploded. Claire was going to win. She was going to take that guy home with her. Why had he started this thing in the first place? He spun Angelique around again. "I'm having a lovely evening," he said to Angelique, leaning very close to her face.

Angelique raised her eyebrows at him. "Um, OK, does that work with women? Just get real close to them and talk in a low, sexy voice? Cause it's not gonna work with me, pal, so stand back, will ya? You've been really distracted since we came over here and you've hardly even talked to me, now you think I'm just gonna fall in to your arms? Please. We were having a better conversation before we started dancing. Are you one of those guys who doesn't like to talk while dancing? Personally, I find it boring."

Tristan pulled her into a dip. "Well, I've never seen that guy before, but I do know the girl he's with. She's a friend of my ex, and let me tell you, she's got a mouth on her. She's American, and she won't hesitate to tell you exactly what she thinks. She slapped me once, in fact." Of course, he decided to leave out the reason why she had slapped him. " So that guy's got his hands full with that one."

Claire laughed. "Well then. I sort of feel sorry for him a bit then," said Claire. She moved around with him to the beat of the music. "I couldn't figure out any type of reason she would have slapped you, unless you were too forward with her."

"No, she thought I was no good for her friend. The woman has trust issues, I think. Most of those American women do. I'm not sure why, but so many of them seem to have issues with men." He shrugged.

"Ah," said Claire. "Trust issues. Well, I don't think there's anything wrong with that, unless they have extremely strong trust issues." She gave a shrug. Claire continued along with him as they made a show of dancing. When it finally ended she stopped to catch her breath again. "I think you have to be the most energetic guy I've danced with. After the first fast song they would have normally replied let's sit down for a bit."

Tristan chuckled. "Yeah, well, a lot of people are lazy these days and would rather just sit around and drink, rather than dance. Me, I work out all the time, and I jog 2 miles every day. Don't want to be out of shape, you know?"

"Two miles a day? That's impressive," said Claire. "Being in shape is important. You never know when you'll need it. I'm not sure if I could jog two miles a day. I think I would pass out. One mile would probably be more of what I could do. Of course, being in shape also makes people more attractive sometimes in the physical sense."

"Oh, absolutely," Tristan agreed. "That isn't why I do it, of course... I do it for my own health. Working in the hospital, I see how important it is to take care of yourself and stay healthy. Plus, it's important to have energy and stamina in my line of work." He winked at her and pulled her down into a dip. "However, if we have one more fast song, I may just have to beg for a break," he added.

"My apologies," Edmund said, bowing to her. "I confess I am a bit distracted right now. I just spotted my ex-girlfriend nearby. She's dancing with another man, and I do believe she's putting on a show for me, to make me jealous." Look behind me when we turn around again, and you'll see her." He paused for extra dramatic effect. "We, uh.. had a bad breakup."

Angelique softened. Finally, for the first time, he was acting like a human being. Instead of saying what he thought she wanted to hear, he was finally speaking the truth. "So, even guys like you can suffer a broken heart," she said. "Maybe you are human after all." She gave him a smile as he spun her around so that she was facing the other direction. Quickly she spotted the girl in question. "Is it the blonde? Of course, she's very pretty. I'm sorry she hurt you." Then she noticed something about the guy she was dancing with. "Oh! That guy... her date! I know him, sorta. He dated my friend Evangeline and dumped her without warning. He's a real jerk."

Claire laughed. "I bet it is. Having to run to every patient and everything, working long hours, it's understandable." She returned his wink. "Aw, there's no sense in begging. I guess it is time for a short break from fast songs. I could dance all night long actually."

Tristan spun her around again. "I guess I'm getting old, because I'm not sure I could dance all night," he said. "But then, I did have a full shift at the hospital today. I had to tend to a Quidditch accident. Guy was hit in the head with a Bludger, then fell 40 feet." He shook his head. "He'll be OK, though. I was able to help him. He probably won't be in the hospital more than a week." As another fast song started up, he laughed. "Yeah, I think I'll have to sit this one out. Tell you what, though. I'll buy you another drink. What do you say?"

Claire laughed. "Well having a full shift is understand to having less stamina. I would have hated to be that guy, but luckily, he was able to have you to heal him." She gave him a wink. "I would say I will take you up on that offer."

"OK, then, let's go," Tristan said. He pulled back and took her hand, then led her off the dance floor and back to his table. "Wait right here, I'll go get your drink. What do you like?"

Claire allowed herself to follow Tristan back to the table. "Hmm, doesn't really matter," said Claire. "I'll guess I'll have the same as you." She gave him a grin and took a seat in one of the chairs, crossing her legs as she settled into the chair. Claire gave another glance towards the dance floor and sighed quietly. She then turned her gaze towards the bar, with a smirk tugging at the corners of her mouth.

Edmund watched as Claire left the table, then looked back at Angelique. "Do you mind terribly if we sit this one out?" he asked her. "I'm getting a bit tired. I'll buy you a drink."

Angelique nodded. "OK, sure," she said. She followed him off the dance floor and headed back to his table. "I'll have a butterbeer."

"Very well, then. I'll be right back," Edmund said. He bent to kiss her hand, then walked back towards the bar. As he went, he passed Claire's table and brushed past her, pausing to give her a meaningful look. Then he kept going, striding toward the bar, where he wound up standing right next to the blue shirt guy.

Claire glanced up to Edmund as he paused for a second. She watched him as he strided on passed. Claire continued to watch him as he arrived at the bar, and noticed he walked right up next to Tristan. She sort of figured that he meant to. She groaned and kept an eye out for anything to happen. If she was lucky, nothing would.
