"Now, why would I lie about something like that?" Edmund asked. "Surely you don't doubt how beautiful you are? The truth is, I saw you from across the room, and I could not take my eyes from you."

Angelique smiled. "Oh. Well, OK, then. Cause I was so sure that was a line. I get crap like that all the time from guys. But I won't even talk to them if I don't think they're worth it." She tilted her head and looked at him thoughtfully. "I'd tell you how good-looking you are, but I'm pretty sure you already know it."

He nodded to her. "Yes, it is true. I have been told on many occasions that I am handsome. But it isn't always easy to look like this. I am sure you understand how it is, how people expect certain things of you, or expect you to be less intelligent, simply because you are attractive."

"Hmm, yeah, that's true, actually. I'm pretty sure that's the reason I had so much trouble in America, trying to work as an Auror. People--especially men--just didn't take me seriously. They thought I was just some dumb girl."

Edmund raised his eyebrows in surprise. "Ah, so you are an auror, then? Now that is certainly a noble cause. I have no doubt that you are good at your job, too. You are defiitely not a dumb girl. You're intelligent and quick-witted... I daresay that the Death Eaters won't see you coming."

"Thank you," Angelique said. "I had a hard time with it in America, because of my rotten boss. But here, I think I can do some good." She was beginning to relax a little, so she leaned back in her chair.

"I am certain you could," Edmund said. As he talked to her, he gazed over her shoulder and spotted Claire approaching the dance floor with Mr. Blue Shirt. He narrowed his eyes slightly as he noticed that they seemed to be getting along extremely well. "Angelique, would you care to dance?" he asked abruptly, turning his eyes back to meet hers.

Angelique shrugged. "Yeah, OK. I just hope you're a better dancer than Melvin was. He spent more time dancing on my feet than on the dance floor." She rolled her eyes at the memory, then stood up and placed her hand in his. "Let's go."

Edmund stood up and bowed to her, then led her off to the dance floor, brushing past Claire and the blue-shirt guy as they went. Then he put his arms around Angelique and pulled her close to him, all the while turning so that he was facing Claire.

Claire narrowed her eyes a bit just as Edmund faced her. She let her eyes open to normal and she let slight amusement across them. Claire looked back up to Tristan, a smile crossing her lips. "Let's show people how to dance, shall we," she asked him.

"Sounds good to me," Tristan replied with a smile. He pulled her closer and began to dance smoothly. "This is turning out to be a very good night."

Claire had to admit, he was pretty decent dancer. "Yes, it is," she said in agreement. "I'm glad that you were in here alone, I have to say."

"Thank you," Tristan said. "I could say the same about you. I'm glad no one else saw you first." The song changed to a fast song, so he pulled away slightly and began to spin her around.

Claire laughed as she was spun around the dance floor. She was probably the happiest when she was dancing, or around, well, she didn't want to think about it at the moment. She was having too much fun. Claire danced along with Tristan and as the song ended, she stopped for a moment to catch her breath. "I don't think I've had this much fun in awhile."

"Me neither," Tristan admitted. He was surprised to realize that it was true. The most fun he'd had lately was when he had harassed Wesley and Evangeline in the restaurant. But since he'd dumped her, he'd been kind of... bored. Until now, he hadn't really been out with a woman since Evangeline. That was unusual for him. Usually, when he dumped a girl, he was out with another one the next night. But lately, he just hadn't felt like it. But Claire... she was different. She was fun. "And to think, I was just going to go home and listen to a quidditch match on the wireless. Good thing I didn't, huh?"

Claire laughed again. "I would say so. If you went home, I might have ended up harassed by the end of the night!" She gave him a wink. "So tonight, you have proven to be a refuge and a great dancer, and I have to thank you for that." Another song came on. "One more dance, what do you say?"

"Sure, why not?" Tristan said. "I'm having too much fun to stop now. Here I am, in the arms of a beautiful woman, just enjoying myself. I think I'm the envy of all the blind fools who didn't notice you before. Like that guy behind us with the brunette on his arm. He can't stop staring at us, and if looks could kill I think I might have already dropped dead."

A smirk spread across Claire's face. "Well, it's good to be the point of envy sometimes," said Claire. She looked towards Edmund and the brunette, and could tell he was staring. Claire raised her hand a little and waved at Edmund with a huge grin on her face. She looked back to Tristan with a laugh. "I'm just being, oh what's the word, friendly." Claire decided to see if she could make Edmund just a wee bit jealous, while having fun. The song ended up being another fast one, and as she started to dance, she danced closer to Tristan, letting her body mold to his.

Tristan laughed. "And why not? We're having fun, so we might as well be friendly, right?" When she pressed her body against his, he leaned in and nuzzled her neck lightly. "I hope I'm not being too forward," he whispered. "But I thought, if the guy's going to stare, we might as well give him something to see."

Well, Claire had to admit, Tristan had a great mind, and maybe he wasn't as dumb as he looked, to a certain extent. "My thoughts exactly," said Claire with a wicked grin. "If people are going to watch, they deserve a show, and providing a show we shall."
