"Yes, he was a frightening man. Olivia was suspicious of him as soon as he took office. She swore up and down that there was something not right about him." He sighed. "Of course she was right. I just rather wish she hadn't investigated him at all. Not only did it lead to her death, but, in a way, also to Sabrina's." Realizing that if Olivia hadn't died, he wouldn't be sitting here with Evangeline, Wesley reached across the table and took her hand in his. "I try not to think about the way things could have been, but sometimes... I just wonder. Sabrina had it set in her mind to find out who killed her mother and make them pay... and to defend her sister no matter what it took. She knew what the risk was, and she made her choice. But I just... I can't believe that she was meant to die that way... she was so young..."

"It's natural to wonder," replied Evangeline. "She did something honorable, you have to admit that. Things just happen, where we like it or not. Sometimes it can be our fault, and sometimes it's someone else's." Evangeline sighed.

"In a way, she was braver than I was," Wesley confessed. "When I found out I was being targeted, I faked my death. But when Sabrina found out that Natalie had seen her death, she stayed determined to rescue Natalie and to get revenge against her mother's killer."

"You just decided to do what you thought was best for you," said Evangeline, lightly squeezing his hand. "Sabrina decided to do what she thought was best for her."

"Well, I did what I did to protect her and Natalie," Wesley said. "I thought if I could pretend to be dead for a while, I could figure out what Olivia had been working on and find a way to prove that Craven was behind her death. But I couldn't do it alone, and eventually I had to have help. Maybe if I had found that locket sooner, I could have found out what it did. It's so strange what happened to it... we tried to get Natalie to use her powers to sense what the locket's powers might be. And it seemed to burn her hand, and she dropped it and it just disappeared. I've never seen anything quite like it..."

"I'm sorry," said Evangeline. "About the necklace and everything. I've never even heard of anything being able to do that. Maybe it was just for someone specific to open it."

"You're probably right," Wesley said. "And it is odd... I suppose the owner--Craven or someone else--had some kind of protective charm on it. Still, I shoud have liked to have figured out a little more about it first. All I know is that it once belonged to Salazar Slytherin."

"That's interesting," replied Evangeline, "and strange. It would have been good to figure out why Craven wanted it, but I guess it's also good that he, nor anyone else like him can really have it now. In Slytherin, I never really heard about the necklace, except for in the Forbidden Section in the library at Hogwarts. I remember reading that it was kept close to Salazar, but that's it. Nothing else to it."

"Yeah, that's really all I could find on it," he said. "I did a lot of research before I figured out what it was, and then after, I kept researching, and I really hardly found anything. I just don't understand how it disappeared like that. I don't suppose I'll ever know now. It makes me feel like I let Olivia down. She most likely died because of that necklace."

"Maybe something will appear about it sometime later on. Who knows about that kind of stuff," said Evangeline. "There's probably something Salazar left, but just hid it, and no one knows where. In a way, if you sort of think about it, you didn't let Olivia down. You did find the necklace, and it wasn't your fault that it did what it did, because you didn't know that it would."

"That's true," Wesley said. "I just wish I could have figured it out sooner. I have a feeling that whatever that locket did was something very important. It was important enough for Craven to kill for. And in a way, I think he died for it. Voldemort basically abandoned him to his fate, and I suspect it was because he lost the locket."

"That's true," said Evangeline. "There's no telling, but now, hopefully Voldemort will never get it. That's a good thing out of it, I suppose." Evangeline smiled to the waitress as she made it with their order. "Thank you," she said politely to her. She turned back to Wesley. "Maybe, the locket relocated itself to a safe location that Salazar made for it in case something happened, or Voldemort put on it."

"I hope you're right," Wesley said. "Olivia seemed to think it was very important, and if she was right, then it was definitely something we don't want Voldemort to have." He looked down at his plate. "This looks really good," he commented as he picked up his fork and began to eat.

Evangeline looked down at hers. "And smells nice too," she added. "Thanks for getting me out tonight. It's been nice, other than what happened earlier. I think it has to be the most decent night I've ever had to be honest."

"No, thank you for going with me," Wesley said, blushing slightly. "You know, it's funny, I'm having such a nice time that I actually almost forgot about what happened earlier. I guess that's for the best, isn't it? I hope we don't run into him again anytime soon."

"I can't agree more," said Evangeline, giving him a warm smile. "I'm still not quite sure why he wanted to make a show, but I don't really care to know I don't think."

"Well, not that I want to keep talking about him," Wesley replied, "but from what I remember back at school, he always wanted to attract attention. He wasn't happy unless people were looking at him. I never understood it, but that's how he was."

Evangeline nodded. "I remember him doing stuff to get attention. I didn't understand it then, nor do I now, why he is like he is. Although, one day, I think it may come back and get him, you know what he's done and stuff."

"My mother used to say that he was destined to come to a bad end," Wesley said, frowning. "I always thought I could keep him on the right path, but I failed." He shook his head, eager to change the subject. "So, I hear you met my half-sister, Angelique. She said she thought you were lovely. And Angelique never lies, so I think that means she approves."

Evangeline grinned. "I like Angelique," she replied. "She's pretty nice, brutally honest, but nice. I think she gave Cass the boost of courage that she needed to help her get out her deep shyness. Not fully out of it, but I don't think she's as shy as she was, so I owe your sister a big thanks."
