Tristan smiled at Evangeline. "You're looking lovely as always, Evangeline," he said. He clapped Wesley on the back. "Hey, Wes, so glad to see you're not dead, after all. I gotta tell you, you're a lucky man."

Wesley smiled tightly. "Oh, Tristan. It's good to be alive, actually. But if you don't mind, Evangeline and I were just... uh... well, we could use a little privacy..."

"Oh, right, yeah, of course," Tristan said smoothly. "I'm sure the two of you have lots to talk about after all this time. Maybe you could talk about the stars. Remember, Evie, how we talked about the stars? That was a great conversation." He looked at her with a dark gleam in his eyes.

Evangeline rolled her eyes. "Don't ever call me Evie," she said narrowing her eyes at him. "Yes, I remember, but it's something I'm trying to forget, thank you very much."

Tristan laughed. "Aw, come on. Don't you have fond memories of our time together? I know you were enjoying yourself at the time. Maybe you need to look at it a different way. Like, we had fun, and now it's over."

"Exactly," said Evangeline, "it's over. That's the best part about it. If I knew then what I know now, nothing would have ever happened. So, don't you have some other girl to go pick up or take on a date or something?"

Wesley stood up, so that he was nose-to-nose with Tristan. "I'm going to have to ask you to leave now, Tristan. I don't like you talking to her in that way."

Tristan raised his eyebrow at him. "What's this, Wes? Are you challenging me to a fight? You know you're a lousy fighter. You always have been. Always with your nose in a book, while I did all the fighting. Remember that time when Casper Crabapple was picking on you and I beat the crap out of him for you? Face it, Wes. You can't beat me. And then maybe Evie here will change her mind about who's the real man among us."

Evangeline stood between the two, and turned towards Wesley. "He's not worth the time," said Evangeline. She then turned towards Tristan. "Just leave him alone. Just go somewhere else, and just leave us both alone. It would be to your best interest if you did."

"Oooh, now you're gonna let a girl fight your battles for you, Wes? That's weak, man, that's really weak. I'll go, but I can't promise your little date will get any more interesting when I'm gone." He turned to go.

"Oh, that's it," Wesley said angrily. He grabbed Tristan's shoulder and pulled him back around to face him, then punched him right in the eye.

Evangeline grabbed Wesley's arm. "Don't," she said pulling him back with a pleading look, "please. He's not worth it. Show him that you're better than he is."

Wesley rubbed his hand. "Sorry, Evangeline, I needed to do that." It had actually felt pretty good, he had to admit. "Now, Tristan, I think maybe you should go now."

Becky had spotted the argument taking place and was standing not far away. She was secretly glad when the guy with the glasses punched the other guy. Now she stepped forward and put her hand on the guy's arm. "Sir, I'm going to have to ask you to leave now," she said politely.

Tristan held his hand over his eye and straightened up slowly. Looking at the waitress, he frowned. He could certainly take the tiny girl, but he's look like even more of a cad if he tried. "All right, all right, I'm going!" he said, holding up the hand that wasn't covering his eye in a gesture of defeat. "I'll see you around, Evangeline. Don't think this is over, Wes."
And with those words, he stalked out angrily.

Evangeline sighed a sigh of relief as Tristan left. She turned to the waitress, "Thank you," she said politely. Evangeline still had a hold on Wes' arm. She looked up at him and smiled. "Well, I would have to say that was completely unexpected of you Wes, but I also have to say that I am proud of you for standing up for me like that." She stood on her tip-toes and kissed him lightly on the cheek.

Wesley could feel himself turning red. "You're quite welcome," he said stiffly. "I couldn't very well let him continue to talk about you like that, now, could I?" He shook his head. "It's hard to believe we were ever friends."

"I wouldn't think so," she said with a smile. "People do change for some reason or another. Who they were then, isn't really like who they are now, with a few exceptions, I suppose. Now, let's sit so people will stop staring. It's starting to get uncomfortable."

"Oh, you're right," Wesley said, smiling nervously. In truth, he had forgotten about everyone else around them and was totally focused on Evangeline. He reluctantly pulled away from her and went to sit in his seat. "You know, I do believe that's the first time I've ever hit anyone."

Evangeline had to laugh. "Well, there is a first time for everything," she said. "I don't think I've ever hit anyone at all. You have to admit, it was a pretty decent hit. Tristan's going to have a real nice eye, and he has you to thank for it."
