"Oh, really?" Sully said, slurring drunkenly. "Well, le's jus' see abou' that!" He launched himself at Korbel, slicing away with the knife. But everything was swimming before his eyes, and he couldn't quite make contact. "Stand still, the both of yeh!" he snarled.

Korbel took a quick step to the side. "I told ya mate, this won't end good for you. I suggest you just take a break and go sleep of the drunkness. I didn't come here to fight," said Korbel. "Besides, there is only one of me."

"I knew that!" Sully shouted. He fumbled with the knife, dropping it to the floor with a clatter. Frustrated, he gave Korbel a shove backwards, then tried to punch him. Unfortunately, he missed again, and the force of the missed punch knocked him forward onto the ground. He cursed loudly.

Korbel had to take a few steps backward whenever Sully pushed him, and watched as Sully fell forward. He had to say that he actually felt sorry for the man. Korbel bent down and began to help Sully up. "Come on mate, let's get you a room. You need to sleep it off."

Sully sighed heavily, the fight having gone out of him. Instead, he let out a loud sob. "Don't be nice to me, I don't deserve it! It's my fault, I should have been there... it should have been me..." He began raving incoherently as he shakily got to his feet.

Korbel sighed. "Look dude, whatever your thing is, don't worry alright. We all have our problems. Things happen. And I'm not nice often so I suggest you take it in," said Korbel. He helped Sully straighten up and let him lean against him. "Just calm down. Sleep will make you feel better, and sober you up. Come on mate."

Zander saw that the newcomer seemed to have everything under control with the Scotsman, and he walked over to help. "Thanks, mate," he said. "I knew he was gonna break soon... it just happened faster than I thought. Come on, there's a spare room back behind the office. I think he'll be better off in there. I'm not sure we can get him up the stairs in this condition."

Korbel nodded and helped Sully head in the direction the bartender had pointed out. "I don't think he'd make it up the stairs. Thanks," said Korbel.

Zander led the way through the office and into the back room. Taking out the keys, he unlocked the door. "Here you go," he said. "Just put him on the bed."

Korbel nodded and laid Sully down on the bed. "Sober up there mate," he said to Sully. Korbel headed back out to the bar and took a seat. "Thanks again there mate. If you don't mind, I'll take just about anything you got."

Zander shut the door behind Sully and headed out to the bar. "No, thank you. I wasn't much in the mood to clean up after a bar fight. Drinks are on the house for you. What's your name?"

Korbel gave a small chuckle. "I can't blame you," he said. "The name's Korbel," he said. "What about you?"

"I'm Zander Smith," he said, handing Korbel a drink. He leaned in slightly and said in a low voice, "is it true what that guy said? About you being a werewolf?"

"Ah, so you heard him," said Korbel. "Just between us mates, yes," he said with a low voice. "I couldn't let him know that, because well, there's people around. And yes, I know you're probably going to ask about the France thing. Well, let's just say we got into a fight there."

"Sure, hey, I won't say anything," Zander repllied. "Just between us, I am, too. Funny how a supposed werewolf hunter couldn't spot one when he was right in front of him. And as far as France is concerned, I don't care what happened there, just as long as it doesn't happen in here. I suggest you stay clear of him. He may have been drunk, but he's definitely an angry drunk."

"I know. I'm in a great attempt to stay away, but somehow I always end up in the same place as he does, on accident of course," said Korbel. "Don't worry mate, I'm just in a very strange calm mood."

Sully collapsed on the small, hard bed. He resented that the werewolf had helped him, but he'd lost all strength to fight it. His head was swimming and his limbs felt heavy and limp. He tried to close his eyes, but as always, Jessica's face floated before him, like something out of another time and place. She almost seemed real, and yet, he couldn't touch her, couldn't feel her. "Ah, Jessie," he said aloud. "How am I supposed to live without you? I'm doing a lousy job at it so far. I miss you, love...." AS he drifted into unconsciousness, however, the face before his eyes changed. Instead of Jessica's fair skin and pale hair and eyes, he saw a glimpse of another girl; one with dark hair and eyes and a mysterious smile....

"Well, thanks, I appreciate it," Zander said. "So tell me, if you were from France, what brings you here? Are you with a pack, or are you on your own?"

"I guess I could say both," said Korbel. "I'm in a pack, but I like to be on my own. Of course, I have my reasons for that. We were in France for nothing really special. Just traveling. Then we ran into Sully and that gave us trouble. I ended up getting into a fight with him so the pack would have a good chance of getting away without any harm, normally that's not my job, but something happened before and I took it upon myself to do it. And don't worry mate, I won't bring you any trouble. You haven't cause me trouble, so I don't look to give you any," Korbel said taking a long drink from his glass.
