"Well, I have to admit, It's nice to talk to someone for a change. And you're pleasant company. What's a nice lass like you doin' in a place like this, anyway?" He stopped and laughed. "I guess that sounds like some kind of pick up line, doesn't it? But I'm serious. I expect only rough types to hang in here."

Rochelle laughed. "Well, I'm just looking around. It's the first time I've been back here in awhile, since I've been traveling and everything. I figured that I needed a drink. The firewhiskey here is not as water downed as it is other places, I can tell you that," said Rochelle.

He nodded. "Aye, that's true. The first time I had a firewhiskey was here, and I wasn't yet 17. Jessie and I conned the bartender--an old, dodgy-looking fellow--into believin' we were 17. The drink nearly knocked us on our arses!" He laughed for a moment, but then the laughter faded and tears filled his eyes. "I'm sorry, I really shouldn't talk of her. It only ever makes me cry."

"I'm sorry," said Rochelle. "Have you ever been to France? It's really lovely there. I love the gardens, because of all the flowers." Rochelle said attempting to see if he would mention that he was there, and see if he mentioned anything about possibly killing Buck.

"Aye, I've been to France," Sully said, nodding. "But I'm afraid I've never really noticed how beautiful the place was. I confess, I was a bit caught up in my work there, and never really stopped to smell the flowers, as they say." Now that he thought about it, it was a bit sad that he never stopped to look around and enjoy anything. He had been in France, but for all the attention he paid to his surroundings, he might as well have been in the desert.

"I see," said Rochelle. "Getting caught up in work is not that great, because you never get the chance to see what you're missing. Sometimes, I've got caught up in things, and I never have really paid attention to things, and I regret it, but then again, sometimes it is good to get caught up in things."

Sully nodded. "Aye, you're right, of course. I haven't taken much time at all to enjoy life. There hasn't been much to enjoy at all for me since Jessie died. But I suppose that's not the way she'd want me to live. I just can't seem to help myself." He leaned back and looked at her.

"Well, like I said before it's not like you're going to forget her or anything, and what's a better way of remembering her, than living your life like she would have wanted you to, right? I'm sure Jessica wouldn't have wanted you to grieve for so long, because if you think about it, she's not really gone," said Rochelle.

Sully nodded. "I know you're right. And I tried to do what you said. But without her, I feel like this world's got nothing for me." He sighed and dropped his head down in a hopeless gesture.

Rochelle sighed softly and reached over the table and put a hand gently on Sully's shoulder. "The world has something for everybody. And the more you think negatively, the more it's going to seem like the world doesn't. But, as my brother always said, the world does have something for everybody. We may not know what, but we'd find out soon enough."

When she touched his shoulder, Sully felt something he hadn't felt in a long time. He felt a strange twist in his stomach, and his skin felt hot , as if she had burned him with her touch. And yet, he also felt oddly comforted, like he wanted to hold her close. As he thought about this, then he began to get scared. He pulled away and looked at her, his eyes wide. "What sort of enchantment is this?" he said. "You've got me spillin' out my soul to you, and I've only just met you."

Rochelle looked at him strangely and sat her hand back in her lap. "What do you mean enchantment? I've done nothing to you. All I did was smile as a friendly greeting, and then we started to talk. That's it. I have done nothing to you, except for talk to you," said Rochelle. She had to admit, she was a little taken back and didn't really know what to make of it. "I'm no good with magic anyway, so I couldn't do anything to you, and why would I want to? I'm just trying to be friendly, but everytime I do try and be friendly, people take it as some kind of wrong thing. If you wish, I will leave."

He stared at her, feeling a bit shaky. What troubled him most was how... empty... he had felt when she removed her hand from his shoulder. "No," he said quietly. "No, I don't want you to go. That's just the trouble, you see. I feel this urge to keep talkin' to you, to..." he trailed off. "It scares me, is all. I'm used to not wanting to talk to anyone. I usually want to be left alone. So why do I want you to stay?"

Rochelle shrugged her shoulders a little bit. "Perhaps, I'm the only person actually willing to sit down and talk with you, paying full attention to what's being said," Rochelle said. She, herself, couldn't really think of a better explaination than that. Plus, the tingling in her fingers she had felt whenever she first touched his shoulder, had gone away, and that was another thing she couldn't really explain.

"Maybe," he said doubtfully, trying to shake off the feeling. "Anyway, I'm sorry for the outburst. I'm afraid.... I do that often, actually. I don't mean to, but I have a little trouble controlling my emotions sometimes. Tell me, do you think I'm mad... er, crazy?"

"How about neither," said Rochelle. "I think you are not crazy, nor mad. I just think you are a man still grieving who has wanted to shut himself off, and is hurting himself more in the process," she said simply.

Her simple words brought tears to his eyes. "Why do I feel like you're the only one who sees me for who I really am? How is this possible when I've known you for less than an hour?" He wiped at his face. "Maybe I just needed someone to talk to, you came along at just the right time..." He sighed. "I keep a picture of her with me, you know. Would you like to see it?"

"Maybe because I've heard your story, and not many others have," said Rochelle. "Sure, I'd love to see to see her picture," she said with a smile. For once, Rochelle didn't feel like she was cursed or anything, she just felt like someone was actually treating her like a normal person, and seeing her for who she is, not what she is, and she had to admit, she liked it.

Sully smiled slightly and reached into his pocket for his wallet. Opening it, he took out the small moving photograph he had of himself and Jessica in each other's arms. He was smiling in the photograph; and his hair was shorter. He had no beard at all in the picture. Jessica stood next to him, smiling happily and holding him close. Just looking at the picture filled him with such an ache inside. "There she is," he said softly. "My Jessie." He handed the picture to her.

Rochelle smiled as she looked at the picture. It sort of pained her whenever she saw the picture, because she had never been in that kind of atmosphere before, to have someone love you, but she was happy at the same time. She handed Sully back the picture. "She was beautiful," she said with a smile.
