Sully had awakened the next morning in a strange bedroom with a splitting headache. After he freshened up as much as he could, he headed out, realizing he'd been given a room in the Hog's Head for the night. He sighed and shook his head. He must have made an arse of himself last night after taking Rochelle to her room. Typical. He always did this.
After a while, he went outside. It was a gloomy morning, gray with a light misty rain. He decided he needed some coffee, so he walked slowly to the little tea shop called Madam Puddifoot's, hoping to get a little something to eat and drink. As he walked into the tea shop, he was assualted with memories of the times when he and Jessica had come here as young Hogwarts students. Choking back a sob, he sank into a table by the window. When would he ever escape from all of these memories? He wished he knew.

Rochelle had been awake for quite sometime before she crawled out of bed. She finally got up and took a quick shower, after taking a few minutes to figure it out. After she took a shower, she noted that she really did need to get a few more items to wear, if she wanted to appear to be normal. Not really wanting to fool with her hair, she just pulled it back into a messy bun and headed for the nearest place where she could get some kind of food, and maybe something to wake her up better, before she was going to attempt to find some kind of job. Rochelle walked around Hogsmeade, and found a little cozy looking place and walked in. She took in the new smells of the place. Rochelle found a quite corner and ordered a cup of coffee and a muffin. She couldn't really remember the last time she had one. After she got comfortable in the chair, Rochelle rubbed the sides of her head as she propped her elbows on the table. The whole not really getting a good night's sleep thing was going to kill her today, and that made it seem like the day was going to take forever.

Sully was staring into space when a waitress came and asked for his order. He ordered a biscuit and a cup of coffee, then dropped his head down on his hands. What had he done last night, anyway? He remembered talking to Rochelle. In fact, he remembered almost every word of it, with amazing clarity. But he had no recollection of what had happened after he'd run away from her in the hall.
As he remembered running away from her, however, a new thought came into his mind. Why had he run away from her? He shouldn't have run, he should have helped her into her room. Instead, he'd turned tail and run away. All because of a few minutes with her in his arms. He closed his eyes, remembering that moment. He could still remember how it had felt to hold her. Familiar, and yet completely new. The feeling had scared the hell out of him.
Opening his eyes, he noticed that the waitress had delivered his coffee and biscuit. He took a sip of the coffee and began to look around. Then he saw her. Rochelle was sitting at a table in the far corner. He stared at her for a long time, silently debating whether he wanted to ask her to join him...

Rochelle continued to rub the sides of her head. Not only was the lack of sleep getting to her, but she did drink one more drink than she should have, although she wasn't totally drunk, drinking more than one drink always got to her the next morning. However, she began to think about what actually kept her awake during the night. The strange feeling she felt whenever Sully had caught her last night. Rochelle removed her elbows from the table when one of the waitresses came by and gave her her order. She looked up and thanked her for it. Just as she was about to look down at her cup, she glanced across the room, because she had a feeling that someone was watching her. Rochelle ended up seeing Sully, and she also ended up staring back at him.

When Rochelle looked up at him, Sully looked away quickly. But soon he was back to staring at her. Their eyes locked from across the room, and it felt as if time had stopped. He still had his coffee cup in his hands, and the heat from the cup began to burn his skin. Setting the cup down, he looked away from her for a moment. "What am I doing? I'm acting like a lunatic." Of course, he reasoned silently, that wasn't entirely unusual for him. Taking a breath, he looked back up at her. Then, almost automatically, he stood up and gathered his coffee and his biscuit and walked over to her table. "Morning, lass," he said. "Mind if I join you?"

Rochelle continued to look in Sully's direction, not looking away. Finally Sully walked over and she gave him a smile. "No, I don't mind, take a seat," said Rochelle. She took a sip of her coffee. "You slept good last night I imagine?"

"Not really, no," he said. "I spent part of the night getting sick, actually. I should learn not to drink on an empty stomach, but no. I do it all the time." He sat down across from her, feeling suddenly lighter. He took a sip of his coffee and smiled slightly. "I feel a bit better now, though. How about you? Did you sleep well?"

"Well, not really. I didn't get much sleep last night. I probably only got about an hour or two. I just couldn't sleep," said Rochelle. She tore a piece of her muffin off and ate it. "I just hope I'm up for job searching today."

"I'm sorry to hear that," Sully said. He hesitated, there were things he wanted to say, but wasn't sure how to say them. "Listen, I--I'm sorry I left you like that. I just... I don't know." He sighed defeatedly. "Well, we'll see what we can do with the job search. Hopefully the coffee will wake us both up."

"Look, don't worry about last night. It's alright," said Rochelle. "It's not a big thing. I do hope this coffee does work, because if not, I think I will be not up to anything today."

Sully relaxed slightly and took a bite of his biscuit. "Well, I wish I was better with healing techniques. I never was very good at it, even back when I was an auror. I told you I was an auror, right? It feels like something out of another life now... like I was a different person then." His eyes took on a faraway look for a moment.

"Don't feel bad," said Rochelle. "At least you are pretty good at magic, I can't even really do magic. I don't even remember the last time I tried," she said. "Well, I can agree with you on the feel like a different person. But I can tell you this. You are the same person, in the same life, just more experience than before."

"You're right, of course," Sully said. "I am the same person... it's just that I wish I was more like the way I used to be. My life was so much simpler then. So much happier. I wish it could be that way again... but I don't see it happening."

"Well, why don't you make it simpler? You can't always dwell on the past, because that's what's making you depressed now," said Rochelle. "If you just stop thinking about the past so much, which I know will be hard, you could be happier, maybe not as happy as you once were, but just about."

'You make it sound so easy," Sully said doubtfully, feeling his eyes water. "It's just... it's hard to let go of what I had... to let go of her. She's a part of me... maybe the only good part left. I don't know how to let her go."

"You're a good person," said Rochelle. "She's not the only good part of you. And like I told you last night, you're not really letting go of her, because I'm sure that she wouldn't want you to dwell on your past like this. She would want you to move on with life, and not beat yourself up over it. Wouldn't she want that from you?"

"She would," he agreed quietly. He looked away from her as her face seemed to swim before his eyes. "She would never have let me feel sorry for myself for so long. She'd have forced me to get up off my arse and get on with living." He sighed heavily. "It's just that... in order to move on, you need something to move on to. And I've got nothing, except vengeance. And I know that's no way to live your life... it's just... it's all I've got."

"That's not all you have now," said Rochelle. "You have a friend now, and as your friend, I'm not going to let you be down. You're going to live again, and not worry so much on this vengeance deal, because it's what's wearing you down too. You will get your vengeance one day, but just don't live your life on vengeance, because the more you dwell on it, the more it's going to hurt you."

He turned back and looked at her. "You're an amazing woman, do you know that?" he said softly. "I've dumped all my baggage on you, and you still want to be my friend?" He smiled. "Maybe you're right," he said. "I'm never going to get any better if I keep on the way I have been. And it's been so long since I've even had a friend. So... I'll try it your way. It'll be nice to have someone I can talk to, instead of just locking it inside until I burst."

"Hey, everyone needs friends," said Rochelle. "And to tell the truth, you're just about the only person I can sit down with a talk to, without saying they have to run off to do something. I'm glad you're going to try it. And remember, anything you need to talk about, I'm always here."
