He had been dreading having to explain all of this. Curse Lex for guilting him into doing now, when he hadn't properly prepared. "Christine," he said softly as she abruptly stood up, expecting her to storm off. But instead she took his hand and urged him to the sofa. He nodded and willingly followed.

She sat and waited for him to do so as well before leaning into him and putting his arms around her. She settled there and sighed closing her eyes. She knew she was behaving strangely, but it wasnt in her to explain. She loved him and she was going to lose him all over again. It was painful.

It took Dorian a few extra moments to get up from the table, and a few more to set himself down onto the sofa. The wound throbbed, reminding him to protect her. He winced in response. She sat against him and wrapped his arms around her. This was not the response he was expecting. He was expecting anger and frustration. This was more akin to sadness. It crushed him.
"Christine," he said gently. "Darling, I know this is difficult on you. But it really is for the best."

"Shhh..." it was the quiet before the storm. She gave herself the day. Today she would hold on to him, she would love him and gather her strength so she could do what she would need to tomorrow.
"Lex is coming back soon and I just want to savor this." she told him careful of his wound but nestling further into his arms.

He understood, and he allowed her the time she needed to come to terms with the situation. He held her in silence, resting his cheek on her head. He lifted her hand and brought the back of her hand to his lips. Once or twice, when her breathing changed pace or she moved in a way that reminded him that she hurt, Dorian held her more tightly for a moment. He held her until Lex returned, then cleared his throat and moved to clear the uneaten lunch before Lex noticed.

Lex made a bit of commotion before returning to let Dorian know she was on her way. She thought it was ridiculous, but she didn't want to intrude either. She caught Dorian's eyes as if to ask whether or not he told Christine they'd be moving.
"Brilliant." she smiled at them, though neither really looked happy. She wasn't happy either, but she had years experience plastering a smile to her face.
