Dorian heard something from Christine's room, and swiftly turned his head. Her door was still shut, be he suspected she was awake now. He smiled gently, then forced a neutral expression. Just because Lex knew of his love life, it didn't mean he was about to go flaunting it about.
"This conversation should remain between the two of us," he said in a friendly tone. "I'll go see if she's hungry."
Dorian moved around the little blonde that had cornered him, setting a hand on her shoulder briefly as he passed. He would come to be grateful that Lex had forced the truth out of him. He would need a confidant in the weeks ahead, though he didn't realize it yet. He crossed the sitting room and tapped lightly on the bedroom door.

Christine wiped at her cheeks that she hadn't realized were wet until just then. She scrambled to appear normal. Finally she whispered a spell to charm her appearance.
"Come in." she said finally, her voice light and easy, the opposite of how she really felt.
She moved to the vanity and sat down applying a moisturizer to her face.

He opened the door slowly and stepped into the room. He wanted to shut the door behind him, but thought it best to keep it open as to curb Lex's imagination from running away with her. He compromised and pushed the door nearly shut, leaving a crack big enough for a child to pass through. He stepped behind her, bending down to kiss the top of her head.
"Did you sleep well?" Her nightmares still took her away from him as she slept, but since Dorian's injury and their consequential lock down, he had not been able to sooth her at night. The first night after his attack, Christine had given him her bed as everyone was fearful of moving him. The second night he insisted that he take the couch, allowing Christine the bed and Lex the roll-away that had been kept in the corner out of pretenses, with little use.

"More or less." she answered leaning into his kiss. "How are you feeling?" she asked.
Christine wasn't the most brilliant nursemaid, she was too worried to be of much use, but still she tended to him as often as he would let her.

"Right as rain," he lied. He was moving unsupported and could bend and extend his torso without sharp pains impeding his movements too often. But there was a dull, lingering pain that was always with him. It was to be expected after having one's insides on the outside.
"Lex is making sandwiches. Are you hungry?"

Not really, she thought. "Starved." she replied with a bright smile that didn't quite reach her eyes despite her charm.
"I'm glad you're feeling better." she said, though she knew he was still in pain.

"I had a good nurse," he replied with a grin. He stepped back and offered her his hand. As she took it and stood from the vanity, Dorian allowed her to leave the room first. He was unaware that she had overheard Lex's and his conversation, and assumed the pretense of not being a couple in front of his partner.

Christine understood, it was in her nature to hide their relationship too, although she didn't imagine Dorian to be the PDA type were their relationship common knowledge in the first place.
Still as she entered the room she couldn't look Lex in the eyes. What the girl must have thought of Christine. It pained her because she had considered Lex to be her friend.

Lex didn't think any less of Christine. You couldn't help who you fell for, Lex's mother was proof of that. No matter how awful their father was to her, she stayed with him. Lex didn't forgive her mother for that, but then she had stayed too, for Alek.
"Hey, she's awake." she smiled better at pretending everything was normal, "I made grilled cheese, and I'm getting started on tomato soup if you're hungry."

Dorian held back in the bedroom for a few extra moments. Pointing his wand at the bed, he charmed it to neatly lay the bedspread across the mattress and fluff the pillows. The maid hadn't been permitted in since his injury, which was just as well. As expected, Dorian was the type to keep a tidy home. He didn't need maid service.
He turned to the untidy vanity, but knew better than to rearrange Christine's products. Instead, he saw a necklace on a silver chain. He picked it up and examined it. An ornate oval hung from the chain, with an engraving written in French on the backside. Voyager c'est vivre. Dorian carried it with him to where Christine and Lex were talking.
"Put this on," he said as he handed the necklace to Christine. "You are not to take it off for any reason. Understood?"
He looked to Lex. "Voyager c'est vivre," he quoted the necklace. This would be how they would identify Christine, should there be any doubt in the future.

Christine blinked when Dorian ordered her to wear her necklace. She rarely took it off anyway, but had been so preoccupied with events she had forgotten to put it back on while applying her morning skincare routine.
"I understand." though she didn't not really. She only answered him because he seemed so adamant.

Lex glanced between the two. She could see Christine's confusion, and Dorian's fear.
"Soup's done." she said breaking the tension. "I'm going to go see if the boys outside want some. You two help yourself." she said then gave a pointed look toward Dorian.
He needed to tell her that they'd be relocating, and it would be better for him to tell Christine the truth about the serial killer using polyjuice potion.

If Dorian had been anyone but Dorian, he would have rolled his eyes at the look Lex shot him. It didn't take a skilled Legilimens to know what she expected him to do in her absence. Dorian clenched his teeth before serving Christine her lunch and making a plate for himself. They moved to the table where Dorian sat next to Christine.
"There are some developments we need to discuss," he started. He didn't want to see the look in her eye when he explained what he needed to tell her. How could he look into her angelic face and tell her a devil had worn it to slice him open? Or that the monster had threatened her directly, and they would need to hide her further still? He stared morosely at his plate, hoping to find the courage to speak the words that were stuck in his throat.

Christine nodded toward Lex, not thinking anything of it. She smiled at Dorian when he served her. He was always doing things like that, though she was more than capable of getting things for herself.
"What's going on?"

Dorian inhaled deeply, held the air in his lungs for a moment, then sighed and turned in his seat so that he was directly facing Christine. He cupped his hand over her thigh. He sighed again. His wound pulled taut with each deep breath as if reminding him of his duty to keep her safe at all costs.
"Darling," he said softly, "the other day, when I got...when I was looking for your key..." His words weren't as elegant as they normally were. They fell out of his mouth and he stumbled over them. He started over. "When I made contact with the suspect, he was using a polyjuice potion." He hesitated for a moment, but began again before Christine could interject. "It seems he found some of your hair at the crime scene." His heart was racing furiously. He didn't want to say it aloud, not to her. He focused his gaze on his hand that rested reassuringly on her leg. "I believed it was you in the park. That is why you must wear that necklace at all times. I need to know that you are you."

Christine took it in stride, her charm prevented her from appearing too distressed. The fact that she already knew this and was torn up about it also helped.
"I see." she nodded, emotions churning. She hid her eyes from him, his touch burned through her. She saw the pain in him as he breathed and it was a pain to her as well.

He wanted to reassure her somehow. To explain that he knew it wasn't her in the park, and that he was positive it was her in the hotel when he poured his life out onto the floor. He felt ashamed that he couldn't tell her. It wasn't true. If he had known, he wouldn't have been so foolish as to be close enough to be so brutally injured, or to inadvertently cover her with his blood as he waited for some sign that she was his Christine.
"I love you," he reminded her instead.

His words were like a knife in her own gut, she took his hand from her thigh, "Dorian." she said firmly.
"Just tell me." she said softly. She couldn't reconcile her own guilt with what he was going through, this was all her fault.

Her words stung. He was doing this all wrong and making it worse for her. He could see in her eyes that she felt responsible for this in some way, which was utter nonsense. He carried on at her urging.
"We're going to be moving you somewhere safer."

Christine closed her eyes, almost as if moving was a death sentence.
"I figured." she said in response. She stood abruptly pushing her food away.
"Come sit with me?" she asked gently tugging him toward the couch.
