Sean sighed. "You don't know what she's been through, Dan. She's lost a lot of people in her life, And I have a dangerous job. I couldn't imagine if... if something happened and I hurt her like that. She needs to date a dentist or a librarian or something."
He couldn't tell his brother That he was actually quite positive that he would leave Lydia, but he wasn't giving up all hope. He still had to go check out that bookstore his dad told him about. It wasn't over yet.... and if he survived this... then maybe he would ask Lydia out. "And anyway, I don't know why we can't both be happy."

"I can tell she's been through something, but it's not my business to know about that. That's for you. You seem to help her be a bit more happier. A blind man could tell you that." Daniel gave his brother a look. It was just a big brother look that told him to stop being stubborn.
"And this job is dangerous, but the thing of it is, we can't do this forever alone. Quite honestly, I couldn't see her dating a dentist or librarian. They're far too stuck up for her. Although, take your time, but don't take too long." Of course Daniel raised his eyebrows. "I can tell when your happy dear brother, so you can never lie to me."

"I lie to you all the time," Sean quipped. "I'm not even actually your brother."
He knew the attempt to steer the conversation elsewhere would be in vain, so he sighed. "All right, listen. I just.... I need to focus on work, right now. Just until we find Danica Krizova. Once she's safe with her mother again, I'll take Lydia out on a proper date, all right?"
He raised his eyebrows, as if asking Daniel if that was good enough for him. And it was a good enough excuse for now.

Daniel let out a small laugh. "That is a 100% lie. Everyone knows we're brothers. You can't deny that." That was true. The way they acted with each other was completely brotherly.
A slow smile spread on Daniel's face as Sean said that he'd take Lydia out on a proper date. "I can deal with that. I mean, after all that is probably the best I can get out of you. After Danica is found, you better come back and ask her. If you don't, I will drag you back here myself and leave you standing there awkwardly."

"No, that's true. I do remember asking Mum once if you were adopted, though." He smiled again. It was a true story, but he'd been about 8 at the time, and Daniel had done something wildly stupid... Sean couldn't even remember what anymore. But they were definitely brothers.
"Ha, you would too. So... what do we do now? That vampire is still our responsibility until the Aurors take her out of here. And I know the staff is not comfortable having her here. I just feel like the job's not done..." he trailed off and looked at his brother, shaking his head. "Sprry... I won't talk business until they let you go, all right?"

"No, don't apologize," he said with a shake of his head. "We do have to figure this out." Daniel did speak a lot about work outside of work. Work was really all he knew. If he went to hang out somewhere, he wasn't exactly sure what to do.
"I feel the same way. There is something that has to be done about the Vampire. We should probably keep an eye on her, just to make sure she doesn't go all crazy again. Maybe we could do shifts or something like that to keep an eye on her. I could probably do one tonight. It'll be a lot better than just laying in this bed."
Daniel would do almost anything to get out of the bed, even if that meant monitoring a Vampire. "Besides, are they supposed to question her or something? What was the point of really catching her rather than just ending her?"

"I don't know. I wasn't in that room with you guys, but she doesn't seem like the type to respond to a questioning. Do vampires even respond to veritiserum?" He felt like he should know that, but he'd never really needed to know. Vampires usually fell under the jurisdiction of the Auror department of the Magical Creature department. But these days, the lines between departments were blurring anyway.
"I know the mediwizards don't like having her here, but Azkaban's not an option. Do we still have that holding cell at the Ministry?"

"I wouldn't think they would," Daniel said raising an eyebrow. He also felt like he should know something about it. "If we have to, we could attempt to try, but then again a vampire is not exactly a human. They're dead people, but then again they're not completely dead." He shook his head of a moment. That explanation sounded better in his head.
"I think we do still have that holding cell in the Ministry. It's down the hall from the office. We can go talk to the aurors and tell them we can put her there. We don't need anyone else getting hurt or anything. Plus, it will make it easier on us if we have her in that cell. I can keep an eye on her while you worry about Danica."

Sean almost laughed, and even still produced a small chuckle. "Well thanks for narrowing that down, Sherlock." He gave his brother a teasing look and shook his head.
"I guess I'll find Kilburn and see if he would be willing to move her to the Ministry. There are more trained people there to deal with her than there are here." He nodded again at the mention of Dani. "I'm stuck there... I feel guilty every time I look at her mother."

"Hopefully. These people here don't need to worry about her. Plus, maybe the auror will finally loosen up a little bit. He seems so uptight." Daniel gave a shrug at attempting to optimistic.
"Don't feel guilty. You're doing the best you can, and don't blame yourself either." He gave Sean another big brother look. "It's not your fault. We're just dealing with a sick son of a banshee who likes to take kids. You'll find her. They didn't hand over the case to you for just any reason. You're great at this kind of thing." Daniel could give the big brother speeches when he needed to. Of course when he was being the big brother, he meant every word he said. "Things will start appearing soon. After all, you can't hide forever. Sooner or later everything will be found out."

Sean rubbed the back of his neck again, this time out of frustration more than the fact that he was hiding something. "I know. I'm just worried that by the time we smoke him out of his hole, it'll be too late for the girl. I just don't get it, though. He sends the mom a note that says he has her daughter, and he'll send instructions later... and he hasn't. The worst part is that, according to the mom, this guy is a muggle. I'm convinced he's got help, and despite the mark above the restaurant, I don't think it's Death Eater related."
He was really just thinking out loud... bouncing ideas off of thin air, and maybe he'd get lucky and his brother would have a flash of genius.
