"I am a nice guy," Daniel said with a smirk. He really could be a nice guy. There was no way he would disrespect a woman on purpose because he knew that his mother would come after him. Hearing that Victoria liked when he talked about his brother stuck out in his mind. Part of him thought that maybe he liked the woman sitting next to him, but then the other part of him just told himself that he thought he liked her because she gave him attention. Although he would cover it up, Daniel did know that he was actually starting to like Victoria. He would deny it up and down if questioned about it however. For the longest time, he never wanted to involve anyone into his life because of his job. Sure, it was just law enforcement, but still sometimes it was he and Sean who worked closely with the aurors. Daniel wasn't worried about his happiness, he was more worried about Sean's, which was why he teased him about Lydia.
"Oh really now," Daniel questioned amused with his eyebrows raised. "You think you can beat me huh?" There was a playful look on his face. "Well if you're challenging, I might have to accept. When I get out of here, we'll practice some, just to waste time between cases."

"Oh, you're on, buddy," she said, smirking. "I can promise you I'll beat you. In fact, maybe we should have a little wager, what do you say?"
Yes, she was tougher than she looked, but she was also talking a big game right now. It was one thing to do well in a practice situation, working with the same people every day. You started to learn their patterns, their tells. It was something entirely different to spar with someone new... even in a practice setting. And he probably had more experience in actual hand-to-hand combat. But she wasn't nervous, and even if she was, she wasn't going to let him see it.

"Alright sweetheart, I'm always up for a little wager every now and again," he said grinning. He liked seeing this side of Victoria. "I'm guessing by that smirk of yours, you already have something in mind?" Daniel raised an eyebrow. He really was interested. If she could play the same game he played, he was glad to have her shadow him. Maybe there was a better match there, and Daniel wasn't ready to say that he met his match yet. Of course, he had yet to see her be completely herself, but there was a suspicion her wise cracks were just as good as his.
"As for this competition, I think it'll be fun. Especially since I will probably wind up the one winning this thing..."

"The loser buys the winner's coffee for a week," Victoria replied promptly. "Cause, you know, I just started this job and I'm kinda broke, so I could use some free coffee."
She was still being overconfident, and she hoped it didn't come back and bite her later. She knew she was good at fighting, but was she good enough to beat him? She had beaten a few of the guys in her training class during sparring sessions, so she knew she could do it.... but she didn't know Daniel's fighting style. Oh, well, she was excited by the challenge.
"You're awfully confident... I can't wait to prove you wrong. You won't be humiliated when you're beaten by a girl, will you?"

"I can handle that," he said with a smirk. Part of him thought she was going to come up with something a little more sinister, but buying the loser a coffee for a week wasn't too bad. "I'm glad to see that you're confident about this whole thing sweetheart. I don't want to crush your dreams." Daniel winked at her.
"As for me being confident, I'm always that way. You should know that by now." He was teasing with her but yet he was being truthful. The confidence he used was mostly a cover. Sure, he really was confident, but he used it to help cover up what was really going on. Daniel never let it showed that he was worried about anything, unless it had to deal with Sean or his family.
"I'm never humiliated love," he said with a wink. "I let things slide." Daniel had been through a lot during school which allowed humiliation to not really be in his vocabulary. "We'll see how this whole fight thing goes and maybe you might learn a thing or two." He had never been in a fight with a girl like this before, but there was always a first time for everything. "Also, to add to the coffee for a week, the loser has to buy the winner's dinner that night at a place of their choosing."

"That's a very good attitude," Victoria said, grinning boldly at him. "Because I'm totally going to wipe the floor with you, so it's good to know you won't get all macho and be a poor loser about it. And I think it might be you who learns a thing or two."
She was having entirely too much fun, and she had pretty much forgotten about the fact that she was going to have to go back to work at some point. It seemed a waste of time, really, because she had nothing to do back at the office, and at least here she was doing something worthwhile... she was cheering up a coworker. The fact that she was doing that by flirting shamelessly with him was really just a technicality.
But his next suggestion made her blush, and she looked down, allowing her blonde hair to fall over her face and create a temporary shadow so he wouldn't see it.
"Well now, Mr. Leviner. Are you asking me out?" she asked.

"Oh, so sweetheart talks big huh?" Maybe Daniel was having too much fun with this too, but it was much better than just laying in the bed counting tiles. There was a light smirk on his face.
Seeing Victoria's hair fall over her face caused Daniel's smirk to grow a little wider. "Maybe I am, maybe I'm not," he said with the smirk evident in his voice. "However, if and when I win, it will be you that are taking me out sweetheart." Part of him wanted to reach out and touch her hair, to move it from her face but Daniel refrained. That would probably make things slightly awkward.
"Are you blushing behind your hair sweetheart? There's no need to start blushing. It's quite alright."

Victoria's cheeks felt warmer as he correctly guessed the reason she was covering her face with her hair. But now that he'd called her on it, she couldn't very well keep hiding. After all, she didn't want him to think she was just a silly, shy girl. So she looked up again, tossing her hair aside and smiling brightly. It was obvious that her cheeks were pink, but suddenly she didn't care.
"We'll just see about that," she replied playfully. "But you're on. The loser pays for dinner. And I'll have you know I'm not just one of those girls who orders a tiny little salad and nibbles at it, either. I intend to order a big meal, so I hope you have plenty of money."

Daniel couldn't help but laugh at Victoria's response. Although he was not going to admit it, he liked her a little more since she admitted she wouldn't get just a salad. Sure, Daniel could eat and eat and he would in front of Sean, although Sean would usually pick at his food, but then again that was his brother. Daniel liked girls who didn't just eat a salad or just pick at their food. He usually felt out of place when he was around them.
"I was about to say the same thing sweetheart," he said amused. "I tend to eat a whole lot myself." Daniel grinned. "I like a girl who likes to eat too."

More than a few guys had been surprised by the fact that she liked to eat. In France and Italy, the men there liked that about her... they said it meant she was "passionate" about life. In England, however, a lot of guys seemed sort of confused by it. Maybe they were just used to girls who ate like rabbits, or maybe they just expected her to be that type because of her figure. But for Victoria, it was more important to keep in shape than to be skinny, and working out made her hungry. She wouldn't apologize for that.
So it was a good thing Dan liked that about her, because she wouldn't pretend to be anything she wasn't, not for any guy. No matter how cute he was.
"Somehow I'm not surprised that you like to eat," she returned, still grinning. But be careful, or someone might start to think you like me or something."

"My mum made me that way," he said with a laugh. Daniel had always had a 'healthy' appetite growing up. Some how he was always able to burn off whatever he ate. Of course, after he worked a job, Daniel was starving. During his stay here was the only time he hadn't really eaten a whole lot. In fact, Daniel asked Sean if he left and came back to bring back some apple pie. That was the number one favorite food of his. If nothing else, he would eat pie.
Daniel rolled his eyes as Victoria told him to be careful, but he did it teasingly. "Hmm, I should be saying that about you sweetheart. I mean, you did challenge me to a fight and you are saying that the loser buys coffee for the week. Sure, I added the dinner thing, but if you're not careful, people might start to think you have a crush on me," he said with a wink.

Sean, feeling bad for his pain in arse brother, had gone out for a bit, picking up an actual meal, including the pie. The hospital food was disgusting, even to Sean.
He noticed when he came back that Daniel wasn't alone, and at first he thought it was one of the doctors. He paused at the door, in time to catch the last bit of the conversation, from her asking if his brother was asking her out. After the torment with Lydia, this was too good to pass up.
He stepped into the room, past the new MLE officer, and set the take out bag on Daniel's legs. "Challenge to a fight... is That what the kids ate calling it these days?"

Leave it to the Leviners to have 'perfect' timing. It always seemed like each brother would catch the other one at a moment that they could tease the other one relentlessly about.
Daniel's attention went from Victoria to his brother. Payback always happened and he should have figured that it would happen but Daniel never thought anything about it until just then. Knowing that he never blushed, Daniel raised an eyebrow at Sean. He was pretty sure his brother knew exactly what his expression said.
"Sweetheart challenged me to a fight." Daniel looked down at his legs reached to grab the bag and looked in it. "You didn't forget the pie," he said looking to his brother with a wide smile. Putting the bag on the table next to his bed, he looked between the two people that were now in his room. "You know I can never say no to a fight."

"Or pie, apparently," Victoria said with a grin, giving Daniel a playful look before turning her attention to Sean. She might have been blushing earlier, but at the moment, she didn't feel the least bit shy, even now that she had just been caught flirting with Daniel by his brother.
"Hi, Sean. We met the other day... I was the annoying girl who wouldn't leave you alone while Daniel was out? I heard what happened and I thought I'd stop over and visit him during my lunch hour..."

Sean raised an eyebrow back at Daniel, matching the expression, but meaning something entirely different. He glanced at Victoria when she teased Daniel. "Or a pretty blonde," he added, hoping to both compliment her and tease his brother in the same go.
"I remember you," he continued. "Though I definitely don't remember you being annoying. That's Dan's job." His lips curved in a barely suppressed smile. He was going to have entirely too much fun with this.
He liked at Daniel saint. "No... you broke my heart last time I forgot the pie and you started crying."

If Victoria was not in the room, Daniel felt like he would have chased Sean around the hospital as they did when Sean teased him about a girl when they were younger. He knew exactly what Sean was doing and knew his brother was going to have way too much fun with the situation.
"I can never say no to pie," he said looking to Victoria with a smile. As Sean added his remark, Daniel raised his eyebrow at him. The look said 'just you wait'.
"I'm never annoying," he replied. "I'm just your older brother." A teasing look appeared on Dan's face.
"I didn't start crying, I yawned, and I was highly disappointed you forgot the pie last time, because that was the third time in a row you forgot it."

Victoria laughed. She, too, was rather enjoying this situation. Sean was not picking on her, just on Daniel, and she was sure that was totally justified. She knew Dan well enough already to know that Sean had probably been on the receiving end of Dan's teasing often enough.
"Oh, no, you're right, Sean," she replied. "He is annoying. You see how he keeps calling me Sweetheart, when I told him my name is Vic-tor-i-a." She grinned as she slowly enunciated each syllable of her name.
Smiling at Sean's compliment of her, she tossed her hair and added, "I like your brother, Daniel. He's sweet. What happened to you?"

"Both of you ganging up on me, I see how it is." Daniel looked between the two and shook his head. "I feel betrayed." He placed a hand over his heart and frowned.
"I think Sweetheart is a lot easier to say. Everyone has a nickname, including Sasquatch right there." In all honesty, there was not much height difference at all between Sean and Daniel, but growing up, Sean hit a growth spurt before Daniel.
"You only like my brother because he's adorable," he said raising his eyebrows teasingly at his brother. "And I can be sweet when I want to be, but I have decided that giving people a hard time is a lot better."

"I don't see how that's a bad reason to like me. And I'm pretty sure you cried. I saw tears." Relentless was what Sean was. He didn't have many opportunities to get Dan like this, and he passed up a few that he did have, but he really needed revenge for earlier, when Lydia was in the room. Thank Godric she wasn't here now.
He rolled his eyes. He was barely taller than Daniel, but there had been a time when he was inches above his brother. Sometimes, he really missed those days
"I didn't know you'd be here, Victoria, but I did get a lot of food. If you're hungry, we can try to wrestle some away from Daniel."

"Everyone has a nickname, do they?" Victoria said, raising an eyebrow at him. "Well, then, you must have one, too. So, what is it? Or should I just make one up for you? I bet I could come up with something really good..."
She pretended to think this over, and she studied him thoughtfully. It gave her a good excuse to really look at him. Even in that bed, looking abnormally pale from the vampire bite, she still thought he was really cute. And maybe that was OK. After all, they were adults and there wasn't any point in being shy.
"I think maybe I'll call you Pumpkin. Or Boo-Boo. How about it, Boo-Boo?"
Turning her attention back to Sean and leaving that comment hanging in the air, she grinned. "I think maybe I can wrestle some food from him. It'll give me some practice for our sparring session... which I'm totally going to win."
