"I'm sure she'll accept it gladly, she's always been your number one fan," Nell giggled, smiling softly at that. She was sure Victoria would be fuming once she got back outside to her, lecturing her on how Nell needed to get over Xander, the man who had broken her heart.
"Coffee?" Nell asked, blinking at him. A million excuses went through her head, each as lame as the one before it. "I..well I don't know...We shouldn't..." And then she let out a breath. "Yes, Xander, I'd like to get some coffee with you."

He was sure she'd say no. She should say no. Part of him even wanted her to say no. But when she said yes, Xander let out a breath he hadn't even realized he'd been holding and broke into a shy, uncertain smile. This was a bad idea, and they both knew it, but Xander didn't even want to think about that right now. He was just... happy.
He was never going to hear the end of this from Ike.
"OK," he said. "OK, great. Um, why don't you go tell Vicki where you're going, and I'll give my excuses to Ike?"
He left out Carley, of course... He'd have to give his excuses to her as well, but he didn't want to remind Nell that he'd been sitting with another girl when she saw him.

"She's going to litterally kill me..." Nell said, shaking her head. It wasn't like she was a big fan of Xander and now Nell had to tell Victoria that she was cancelling thier plans to skip out on what was most likly going to end in Nell cooping up in her living room with a carton of ice cream and feeling like she did back in school when Xander broke her heart.
Maybe this was a bad idea after all.
"Alright, meet you back here in five?" she asked, smiling a little, but still trying to figure out what to say to Victoria as she walked back into the Leaky Cauldron and found her friend.
"Hey Vic..." she started slowly.

"Back in five," Xander said, nodding. He waited a beat after she walked back to the pub, trying to figure out what had possessed him to do this. But the truth was, one look from those eyes of hers and he was lost. She had no idea the power she had over him. It had scared him then, just as it did now, and that was why he'd broken things off with her. He was too immature and not ready to deal with such complicated feelings.
But maybe he had changed. He'd seen what else was out there, and no other woman had the same power over him that she did. And a part of him knew what that meant... he just wasn't sure if he was ready to accept it. Still... it was just coffee... it wasn't like he'd proposed marriage.
Marriage? Where the hell had that thought come from? He was surely losing it.
Shaking his head, he dashed back into the pub and went straight to Ike, who was still talking to Yvonne. "Hey, buddy. You're gonna kill me, but I gotta bail. I'm... Nell and I are going to get some coffee."

Ike noticed the whole situation with Nell. He saw them run into each other and wondered how it was going to go. He always knew that Xander was in love with her, but he knew better than to attempt to tell that to his friend. Xander was too stubborn after all. He continued to his conversation with Yvonne. Their conversation was actually going pretty well.
Noticing Xander coming their way, he gave a quick grin to Yvonne. "Oh, this should be good..." Issac looked up to his friend. "You're leaving me?" He gave an almost lost look. "Oh, wait. I think I can forgive you since it is with Nell after all." He gave a wink. "I'm pretty sure I can get home myself. Go have coffee with her." This time Ike gave a knowing grin. "I'll see you tomorrow?"

Xander knew perfectly well what Ike was trying to say with that knowing look. After all, Ike had been there when Xander was dating Nell. He'd heard all the times Xander used to begin sentences with "Nell says, Nell thinks, or Nell likes..." He'd also been there when Xander had decided to break up with her. He'd heard all the excuses and justifications and known they were just covering for the fact that he was hopelessly in love with Nell and it terrified him. And he'd been there when Xander had dated girl after girl, comparing them all to Nell and finding them all lacking.
Xander let out a breath. "Don't start," he said in a warning tone. "It's just coffee." He sighed, then added, "I'll meet you for lunch tomorrow, OK?"
He gave a nod to Yvonne, then went over to where Carley was still sitting. "Hey, Carley... I'm sorry to do this to you, but that was my ex... I need to talk to her about some stuff, so where going to get some coffee. It was really nice meeting you, and I hope we get a chance to talk again some time. Will you be all right here?"

With Nell taking so long to talk to Xander, Victoria knew that there were three possibilities for what could be happening. The first, which she hoped to be the case, was that Nell had killed Xander and had to go into hiding. The second was that Xander had somehow managed to break her heart all over again and she ran home to sit on the couch with a carton of ice cream.
But the third was what Victoria feared the most... that Xander had somehow gotten her to take complete leave of her senses and that she was actually thinking about going somewhere to talk to him alone.
And so, when Nell came up to her with that look on her face, Victoria knew exactly what had happened, even before Nell spoke.
"Oh, no. No, no, no... Tell me you're not going to stay what I think you're going to say..."
