Seth had been smirking at Maxi. He really couldn't help it. He silently took her challenge and pointed at the jar with his wand. "Accio Jar," he said just as Maxi's had. His had flown a couple of feet as well and then dropped. He frowned and put his wand down, mumbling about something being wrong with the jar.

Gage shakily took his wand and pointed at the jar. "Focus," a little voice in his head that sounded strangly like Maxi said. He closed his eyes tight and imagined that the jar floating gracefully onto his desk. "Accio Jar," he said clearly, his eyes still shut.

Bek was about to cast the charm herself with a jar whizzed passed her head and landed, surprisingly, on Gage's desk. Bek almost dropped her wand in shock.
"Gage!" Bek said, amazed at her second year friend. "How did you...wow!" Bek herself didn't get the charm down until her fourth year.
"Maxi, Seth," she got their other friends' attention, look at Gage."

Gage opened his eyes and found that the jar he summoned was sitting on his desk, not broken on the floor like Maxi's and Seth's. His cheeks burned as he heard the apprasial from Bek, but he grinned all the same.
He didn't know he could do that.

Samantha was easily distracted, but when it was her turn she was extremely focused. The spell wasn't difficult, not anymore. It had been when she learned it last year, it had taken constant practice, determination, a few days without sleep, and she had been able to control it within a month that was practicing night and day when she could.
The problem was her control, the first thing she had ever tried to summon to her burst apart instead, it was terrifying and embarassing. She wasn't good at picking things up quickly she had to work twice as hard and twice as long as anyone, but she didn't rest until it was done, and with her Tutors, it would get done. Early even. Her mother insisted she be ahead of the class and they had kept a relentless pace. Summer vacation was supposed to be just that, but her real vacation was during school when she didn't have to rack her brain for hours and practice until she was so tired she would literally drop.
"Accio Jar." she said with the propper wrist rotation and flick.

Severus was bored. Summoning things...blah! it wasn't like his legs were broken, but he supposed if his legs were broken, it'd help. He wondered if you could someone's socks, would they be tugged right off their feet? would that be painful? what a funny thought, summoning someone's socks to cause pain. It was simple enough, it was just a matter of paying attention he thought. He swished and flicked and made his jar float, but it made no movement toward him, which he had expected, he wasn't summoning it, he was making it float. He wondered if something heavier would be harder to make float, but he lost concentration and his jar smashed against the floor. He raised his had and waited for the professor to help him with his broken jar.

Severus was still avoiding her. It made Natalie feel empty and hollow, and her concentration was worse than usual. She kept moving her wand as instructed, and repeating "Accio jar" over and over, but the jar would only seem to move forward an inch or two at a time. At the sound of Severus's jar falling to the floor, she turned and looked at him. It felt to her that the shattering of the jar was echoing the shattering of her heart.

Samantha was a little annoyed at the sounds of so many glasses shattering, well not annoyed but startled, glass shattering just signaled right before a hex would be cast her way at home so here she jumped a little when the jars fell to the ground.

Of the students who attempted the charm on the first round, it seemed only Gage Oliver was able to successfully summon his jar without breaking it. "Well done Mr Oliver. Five points to Ravenclaw." Carlisle drew his own wand and repaired the broken jar that lay on the floor. He had hoped that by using plastic jar, the room wouldn't be such a mess. But still, when working with children it seemed everything was a mess sooner or later. "Keep trying until you get it," he said encouragingly to the few who had yet to succeed. "Concentrate and be clear with your incantation."
As he moved around the room, studying each students technique and taking note, his eyes fell upon Samantha. She looked uneasy about something. He leaned over her desk. "Is everything alright Miss Montgomery? You aren't looking well."

(Lol Samantha summoned hers over too, I forgot to say that it worked)
She smiled but it was tight, "Just the noise professor, I'm alright." she nodded, "Thank you." when another jar fell she jumped just a little, laughed at herself and gave him a shrug. She could have cast a spell to silence the sound but then she wouldn't be able to hear to professor. She lowered her eyes to the jar in her hands and then smiling put it back on the Desk.

Gage smiled proudly. "Thank you Professor," he said kindly. Then he stared at the jar for a moment, before turning towards Bek. "How did I DO that?" he asked, only half serious.

"Magic, Kiddo," Bek teased, rubbing Gage's head. "Told you! Just focus," Bek pointed out. She stayed quiet after that, knowing that if she continued talking, she'd embarrass the poor 12 year old.
I'm proud of you Gaget! I knew you could do it.

Lyra, sitting in the back of the room practicing silently aside from when they had to enunciate the incantation, was finally ready to try out the charm. She held her wand gently but firmly and properly rotated her wrist twist, then flicked it once. At the same time she said "Accio jar." The jar she had been focusing on shuttered, but didn't leave the table. She tried it again. This time the jar rose an inch above the table and toppled to the floor. After repairing the jar, she tried again, as the professor instructed. This time the jar rose a foot, and began closing the gap between them. It seemed to be racing toward her and she ducked as the jar flew straight over her head and shattered against the back wall of the classroom. Lyra, not one to become embarassed over such things, laughed aloud. "Sorry Professor," she said between laughs and repaired the jar once more.

Ristain was in the third row and awaited for the professor to give them the okay for their turn to summon the jar... he was in the seventh year and had already learned this particular charm and given it much practice ever since... the real challenge was doing it non-verbally and he wondered if the professor would make them attempt it. He had been practicing in his room already but the idea of doing it non-verbally was a bit more daunting considering glass shattered easier.. too much focus and you'd have nothing but a broken jar.. too little and it wouldn't do anything at all... it was a balance of concentration, more so than casting verbally and he waited to see what would happen.

Sam was vastly annoyed with her jitters and cast the silencing spell anyway, or at least a dulling spell, she didn't hear the glass shattering as sharply as before, but hopefully she'd be able to hear if the professor talked to her again.
She glanced around the room noticing the different students, taking inventory of their strengths and weaknesses.

"Accio Jar," Maxi said, this time keeping her focus on the jar. It quickly zoomed toward her, but then she heard her name called and she turned, loosing concentration and letting the jar drop with another crash.
Maxi rolled her eyes and turned to the person who had spoken to her.

Seth was not paying very much attention to the task of summoning the jars. He didn't want to bother, everytim he tried it crashed anyway. Seth lazily cast the levitation charm on an ususupecting fly, and toyed with it a bit before letting go.
Seth was bored.
He turned to his left where Maxi was practicing her charm. He wanted to bug her a bit, so as Maxi's jar came toward her, he said. "Hey Maxi?"
The jar dropped and Maxi turned to look at him annoyed, but he smiled. "Almost got it, Max. Maybe next time!"

Sam had been practicing this spell with Frank for a bit nonverbally. She had practiced at night as well summoning things to her bed and whatnot without voicing anything. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it flopped, but she was getting better at control on a whole. She wondered if she could do it here in class, it was a prime time to practice, she needed all the practice she could get if she was going to be in the Tournament.

Nearly everyone had at least gotten close to completing the charm properly, and that was very good for just learning. He was pleased that his class was so talented. He was sure, if given another twenty minutes they would all have been successful. Unfortunately they were out of time and Carlisle still needed to assign homework. He went back to the front of the classroom where the blackboard was.
"Alright class, lets settle down." He paused while everyone got back into their seats. "Very good work today. You are all quick learners. Now, before we leave I'd like you all to copy down your homework assignment. If you have any questions you may see me after class." He waved his wand at the blackboard once more and the homework assignment appeared in chalk.
((Homework: PM me with the answer to this question by Saturday, September 20th for two house points.
Name the counter charm to a Summoning Charm. I require the Name and the incantation to receive any points.))

Samantha didn't copy the homework down, she didn't need to, instead she wrote down the answer in a short little paragraph that would've taken her just as long to write out the question, signed her name and attatched her own securing charm so her homework could not be tampered with. When there was a din in the room from students anxious to leave getting their things together and writing down their homework Samantha stood discreetly and walked to the professor's desk.
"Professor?" she asked.
