Penelope tapped her foot up and down in mock inpatients as she stood before the stool and sorting hat. She had had to endure the taunting of her older sister Helen the entire ride to Hogwarts. Her entire family had been in Ravenclaw and Helen's favorite hobby over the summer had been to assure Penelope that she was nothing like the rest of them and had no chance of being put in the same house. Penelope in turn had been assuring her that she had never wanted to be in Ravenclaw. She would never admit to her family how much anxiety she had been having about the sorting ceremony. She knew she would be expected to end up in Ravenclaw and, truth be told, she really, really wanted to be. The anxiety had been mounting steadily all summer and she couldn't wait for this ceremony to be over.
"Jones, Penelope!"
She closed her eyes and breathed deeply before heading up the stairs and placing the hat on her head. Finally, it was about to be over...

Teagan shifted slowly from foot to foot, a piece of her light brown hair held firmly in her right hand. There was a prick of something behind her eyes and she prayed silently that she didn't burst into tears in front of the whole school. She felt as if she was already being judge by the many eyes that were watching the First Years curiously, wondering which ones they would be getting in their Houses this year. She started a nervous chant silently in her head as a boy was called up; his last name sounded awfully close to hers. Suddenly, her name was being called and she walked quickly up the stairs, not wanting to look too eager or be too slow. The last thought that raced through her mind before the Hat slipped down her forehead and blocked the room from her eyes was Please don't let me embarrass my father. Please.

She's nervous! You can see slight tremor of her hand. Her eyes are huge as she stares at first person called. But as she gathers herself, her posture becomes straight and you can see her eyes become hard. When her name is called in thick Scottish burr, her smile becomes a smirk and she walks up to stool. Looking out among her 'peers' eyes squinted, yea, she will be ok.

Chip stood out among the other 11 year olds in more ways than one. Not only was he just about the only black student in sight, he was also a good 4 inches taller than most of the kids around him. And as if those two things weren't enough, he was also singing as he stood there. He was getting some odd looks, but he really didn't care. He just kept on singing his current favorite song, Respect by Aretha Franklin:
"Ooo, your kisses (oo) Sweeter than honey (oo) And guess what? (oo) So is my money (oo) All I want you to do (oo) for me Is give it to me when you get home (re, re, re ,re) Yeah baby (re, re, re ,re) Whip it to me (respect, just a little bit) When you get home, now (just a little bit)
R-E-S-P-E-C-T Find out what it means to me R-E-S-P-E-C-T Take care, TCB..."
The teacher came over and tried to hush him, so he began to sing a little more quietly. But he was still singing when his name was called. He walked up to the stool, still singing, and then put the hat on his head in a dramatic fashion.

So many bloody people... If you asked Isolde, everyone of them should really advert their eyes. She was tired of being stared at as if she were something unique or rare because she wasn't. Being in the spotlight was something she was rather unused too. It wasn't a pleasant feeling but, then again, she didn't really mind it so much.
A smirk played on her lips as she walked up the the aisle between too tables. She saw an older student looking at her oddly and glared to which he immediately looked away. Huh. Well, whatever. Isolde did not want nor need their approval.

Haley watched people go past her and get sorted, this was all new to her. She got goosebumps when she heard, ''James, Haley!''. Haley stood up and walked over to the brown stool and sat on it, all she could think about was her brother and his time at Hogwarts. He was in Ravenclaw, so she prayed she would be in the same house as him. She looked at the sorting hat calmly, waiting for his answer.

Ariesa sat quietyly as each of the other first years were called up on stage. Her eyes had remained cast down at the ground, half closed, as each child took their turn upon the stage to be sorted out among the throng of students. Her thoughts were subdued, as were her emotions as usual. But what few thoughts she had quietly wandering about her mind were of her mother, the liar. Why she would keep such knowledge from her daughter almost sickened Arie. But she pushed the emotions away.
Finally, her name was called. As the final sylable exited the professor's mouth, her eyes popped open, looking directly up at the woman, but her head did not move. It was almost creepy how she stepped up to the stool and sat down, her eyes once again, turned to gaze down at the ground before the stool. As the hat was set upon her head, the only surface thoughts it sensed from her was an almost defiant...
'What?'

Jynx looked around everywhere, bored with what was going on. She watched the kids go up before her, remembering how her parents had pushed for her to go into Slytherin. Some small part of her did want that, but then again she wanted to prove them wrong and go with Gryffindor. But Jynx was very smart for her age and she thought that maybe she could go into Ravenclaw. She finally heard her name called and she skipped up the stairs, happy to be finally moving again.

Kingsley cooly walked up to the stool when his name was called, somewhat concious of all the eyes following him but not really worried about being the center of attention. He sat on the stool, trying to pull the hat over his mass of tightly knit curls. After struggling for a moment, he settled for wearing the hat at an awkwardly skewed angle, staring right back at the students that were watching.
So, the sorting. Let's see... well, my mum was in Ravenclaw and my dad was in Slytherin, but I really don't think I care for either of those. Knowledge is important, yes, but knowing how to apply it is even more so. And Slytherin... well, I really just don't want to be there. Hufflepuff would be alright, I suppose, but they're usually not the first to go into the fray. I do like a good showdown. I don't know, Mr. Hat. What do you think?

Post by Niela McMorna on Jun 14, 2010 22:57:12 GMT -5
The little, red headed, twin first years stood side by side with each other. Her mind was elsewhere, though, thinking back on the train ride.
Niela had endured her sister's excited talking the entire ride on the train. Every time she had turned around, Cassidy had been talking to some other new person that she had met. More than once, Niela had to drag her back to their compartment so she could keep an eye on her.
But she had slipped past at one point and ran head long into a slytherin boy of a higher year than them. He had started yelling at the first year when Niela caught up to her sister. Niela, being vastly shorter than the Slytherin, stepped between him and her sister, glareing up at him. When he started yelling at her, she started yelling back, showing she was not afraid of him and even stepped on his foot and had pulled her wand on him. Just as she was about to yell something out, one of the Gryffindor Prefects appeared and covered her mouth. The other grabbed the Slytherin and told him to shove off.
Niela had already been dealt with by the staff and was even starting her first year off with a minor detention, after they had determined it was not her fault and she was merely protecting her sister.
Cassidy had appologized several times to Niela, but she was still upset at her for once again getting her into trouble. Even as they stood in line, she was appologizing.
Niela was glad for the interruption of her name being called and she stepped up onto the stage. Finally, she smiled again at the professor as she sat down on the stool and the hat was placed on her head.
