If she had mentioned that it was all her fault, Roland would have been quick to correct her--it was all his fault. This stupid plan of his, putting her in danger, even getting her pregnant, they were all his fault. He was glad thiswas over. He'd put her through hell, but at least he was done doing that now.
He really wanted to go to her, to hold her hand, but he would wait until the doctor was done treating her.

Lydia had walked over to a cabinet in the corner and got out a small bottle filled with an amber-colored liquid. She returned quickly and handed the potion to Riley. "Here you go. Drink all of it, and then relax. He can stay here with you for a bit and hold your hand, if that will make you feel better."
She glanced back at Roland with a slight grin on her face. Like Chase, she had already figured out that Roland was pretty stubborn, but at least he truly seemed to care about Riley. There were worse things to be stubborn about than wanting to be with the woman you loved while she was injured.

Riley nodded. Unlike Roland, she wasn't thinking about anything else. Angelique and his family and everything and everyone else could just wait. Right now, she really just needed to focus on her and Roland and their unborn baby.
After she swallowed the potion, which tasted better than she hoped for, she handed the empty bottle to Lydia, and reached out her hand for Roland. The panic was clear in her eyes, but she kept it from the rest of her face. Now that he was back, she was going to lean on him. Just for a while. Everyone else would understand.

Roland immediately went to her and slipped his hand in hers. He was worried, too, but he also tried not to let it show in his expression. He felt like everything had been about him for a while now, and he was anxious to focus on her for a change. He wanted to take care of her and to be there for her to lean on.
He sat down on a chair next to the bed and held her hand against his cheek. "It's going to be OK," he whispered. "Our baby is strong... it would have to be to come from us, wouldn't it?"

Riley nodded. "Yeah. I guess." She needed to stop thinking about it, stop worrying. They'd have t wait an hour and then the doctor would do what she could if something was wrong.
"Can you just hold me? I don't really give a damn if she said all you could do was hold my hand." To prove the point, she scooted over on the bed, making a little room for him. She just felt cold and worried, and all she knew was that when she was in Roland's arms, those feelings went away.

Roland nodded immediately, casting a quick glance in the direction of the door. Both of the doctors were silently slipping out, giving them a few moments alone for the time being.
He stood up from his seat and walked around to the other side of the bed. "I can only hold you with one arm right now, the dislocated elbow is still pretty tender," he explained. His left arm was the injured one, so he needed to hold her with his right arm.
He climbed up onto the bed and slid over next to her, wrapping his good arm around her. "I have to tell you, it feels pretty good to be back in the world."

Riley didn't even ask if he was okay. He would only assure her that he was anyway, even if he wasn't. She just nodded and adjusted so that she wouldn't hurt him.
"You say that now. We haven't had to actually answer to anyone yet. But I like having you back," she added, giving him a little smile. "It must feel pretty strange after all this time to have so many people around." It felt strange to her being able to talk about him, and to him in the presence of anyone else. She had a living boyfriend again, and it just made her feel better. She didn't feel like she was keeping some dirty little secret anymore.
"We can just be us now, right?"

He smiled. "It is pretty strange, being able to have a conversation with someone other than you or the dog," he replied. "But I'm happy to report I'm just as much of an arrogant prat as I've always been."
Possibly even more so, he realized. He had been so far removed from everyone else that it had made him a little more ego-centric than he had been before, except for where she was concerned. Still, it was good to be home, and even though he fully expected to be reemed out by Angelique and his parents, he was actually looking forward to it.
"Everything can go back to normal now," he promised. "It's all over."

"The dog," Riley repeated. "We have to go get him," she said. She honestly hadn't thought of Phoenix... there were more pressing things on her mind. "We'll have to go get him tomorrow when we get out of here. I hope he'll be okay for the night."
She laced their fingers together, giving his hand a gentle squeeze. "It feels good, though, right?" she asked. "Knowing that it's over? That Blake is gone and you can come back to your family? They'll be so happy to see you. Angry, maybe... but happy underneath it all." She honestly didn't know that she'd be able to forgive him for that kind of pain, though. Surely, his family would, and she didn't have to.
"I'm glad you're back before I start showing or anything like that. It's been hell, a little."

It was getting late when the knock arrived at the door, and Cara was alone in her home. She should have been with her husband, but no. Lina had stopped by a few times, and as disapproving as she was of the girl, she couldn't deny that she appreciated the visits. She was just so lonely now. She went to the door, opening it, and her eyebrows went up to see Hayden. "Hayden, what are doing here?" she asked, but opened the door wider. "Come on in." "Evening Aunt Cara," he said as she opened the door. Hayden should have been pouring over with excitement however it just wasn't very Hayden if he was showing it. Plus, his mind was trying to wrap around how Roland got away in the first place but nothing was coming to help ease his wondering so he just tried to push it away for the time being. Hayden walked into the house and put his hands in his pockets. "I thought that I should pay you a visit, and I have something to tell you but I'm waiting on Uncle Mathieu to get here. Both of you should know this."

"I made a few modifications so that at least the dog would have some food and water, and access to the outside, if he needed it. I'm just worried he'll be lonely. I wasn't expecting to get dragged to the hospital." He rolled his eyes, making it clear that he thought the whole trip was unnecessary, at least as far as his own injuries were concerned. "But I wouldn't have wanted to leave you, so it's just as well. Anyway, the doctor says I'll probably released tomorrow, so if necessary, I'll go get him and bring him back to... wait, I guess I lost my apartment, huh? I guess I can bring him to your place..."

Post by Mathieu Ferrera on Jul 15, 2009 21:45:27 GMT -5
Since moving into Roland's apartment, Mathieu spent every night alone. In fact, his days were usually the same. Tonight he sat in the dimly-lit living room, looking through photo albums while polishing off a bottle of firewhiskey. After his breakthrough with Riley a few days earlier, Mathieu had retreated further into himself and his memories. He hadn't showered or shaved, or even gotten dressed. And he was pretty sure he hadn't eaten, either. The only thing in his system was that bottle of firewhiskey, which he'd been going through most of the day.
He wondered idly if he would ever find the strength to crawl out of this hole. Right now, he couldn't see it happening. Maybe he'd drink himself to death and be found a week later when Arthur Weasley complained about the smell.
He could almost hear Roland yelling at him to snap out of it. He probably would have even hit him. But without him there, Mathieu simply couldn't find the strength.
What he didn't know was that everything was about to change. He was staring at a picture of Roland at about age 10, his green eyes burning a hole right through the paper, when there was a sort of growling noise, and Mathieu looked up to see a silvery wolf. It opened its mouth and told him to meet Hayden at the house for some important news.
Mathieu wasn't entirely sure he could take any more news, but something about the message caught his attention. Sighing to himself, he went to get dressed and washed up. It took him about 20 minutes to make himself presentable, but he finally did and he went out in the hall and apparated over to the house he was supposed to be sharing with his wife.
It was a lucky thing that the door was still open when he got there, or he would have felt uncertain about whether he should knock or just walk in. But it was open, so he just walked in.
Avoiding Cara's eyes, he moved over to the old armchair that was his favorite. "What is it, Hayden?" he asked, his voice heavy with dread.

Just seeing his Uncle the way he was made a little more anger flare up. Hayden kept his face emotionless at the moment. He couldn't really understand why exactly Roland would do this, especially to those he cared about. However, it wasn't really his place to just start demanding answers, he had to be patient.
Before he could tell Mathieu that he should be seated for the news, he was in his armchair. Clearing his throat, Hayden wasn't exactly sure how to approach the news. "Alright, well, I should start off by saying this is not a prank and that I'm completely serious when I say this. After I finish telling you, we'll all go at the same time, we can't just have one of you run ahead even though you want to."
His business like tone started to fade away. "Tonight, Riley came to Ted and I, asking for help." Hayden drew in a breath. "We went after him." He didn't sense the need to explain who 'him' was. "Anyway, I'm just going to get straight to the point," he said eying both of them, "Roland, Roland is alive."

Mathieu could not process what Hayden was saying. It didn't make any sense. He just stared at him blankly. Roland wasn't alive. His funeral had been less than a week ago. He was gone. What was Hayden going on about? Mathieu knew he wasn't the joking type, especially not about something like this. So what was happening? Had he hallucinated?
"Hayden, what the hell are you talking about?" he said angrily.

"Look, tonight we went after the last person. Riley wanted Ted and I to go with her to face him," he said with a sigh and ran a hand through his hair. "We went with her. While we were there, Blake showed up. He threw the killing curse at Riley, but Roland came out of no where and blocked it. It took me a moment to process it myself, but he is alive, I swear to you he is. He and Blake started fighting and he got a little injured, but in the end he killed Blake. Riley, she's pregnant and it's Roland's."
Hayden felt like he was talking a little too fast so he slowed it down a little. "Ted and I took both of them to St. Mungo's. They are both getting checked and I know that Roland would like to see you."

Cara had been strangely silent during all of this, and her face showed nearly no emotion. What was she supposed to say to that? She still wasn't sure that Hayden wasn't joking, even though she knew him well enough to know that he never would. Especially not about something like this.
"I always hated Blake," she finally said, as if that was the one thing that registered in her mind. What was going through her head was another story, and she was going to kill Roland for making them go through this. If he was alive.
"Are you sure it's not someone else playing a prank on us?"

"No, you needed to come here. You were banged up worse than me."
Riley shook her head. "Actually, your apartment is still yours." She sighed, dropping her eyes from his. She may as well tell him.
"I've been... well, your family hasn't taken this as well as I told you that have. Mathieu's been living in your apartment for a few weeks now. I'm sure he'll be glad to give it back to you, though."

Mathieu felt like his head was going to explode. It was total information overload, and considering he had consumed quite a large quantity of firewhiskey and nothing else, this was just all more than his normally sharp mind could process all at once.
"Roland's alive.... Blake's dead.... Riley's pregnant...?" he repeated numbly.

"I promise it's not a prank. You know that I wouldn't be here telling you this if it was a prank." His hands were still in his pockets and he looked to Mathieu. "Well, that basically sums it up," Hayden replied. "All three of those things have happened."
He let silence fall for a moment. "Aunt Cara, why don't you put your cloak? I'll take the three of us to St. Mungo's. Like I said before, I'm sure that Roland really wants to see you two," he said gently.

Cara stood up, still showing no emotion. She should have begging him to take them to the hospital already, but she was just numb.
Leaving Hayden and her husband, she picked up her cloak, and then reached for the spare she kept for Roland. It would fit Mathieu. Coming back to the living room, she handed it to Mathieu and clasped her own, quiet. It was almost unnerving.
