Weak though he was was, he still had a fair amount of strength in him, and he was continuing to struggle against the nurses who were cleaning up his injuries. But when the door swung open and Riley burst in, he relaxed back on the bed and smiled. She was on her feet; it couldn't be that bad, right?
"Riley," he said softly. "It's OK. I'm OK. I kept my promise."

Tears sprang to Riley's eyes and she forced herself closer, getting in the nurses' way. She didn't care. Behind her, Chase nodded them away, silently letting the know that it was all right for now.
Riley's heart was beating triple the speed it should have been, creating a rushing in her ears and she came up beside his bed. Her fingers reached out until they were centimeters from his wounds. "You're hurt," she said, forcing herself to keep her eyes on his. "How badly?" she whispered, wanting to know.
A bigger part of herself wished he would ignore her questions and just pull her to him and kiss her deeply.

Roland was unconcerned about his injuries.
"They're just flesh wounds. I was hurt worse than this the last time I faced him," he told her. "You didn't see it, I was mostly healed by the time you saw me."
He reached up and laid his hand against her cheek. "I'm going to be fine," he said. Then he pulled her closer and kissed her urgently, as if drawing strength from her.
"Now, how about you? Are you OK? You're not hurt, are you? How's the baby?"

Riley kissed him back with urgency and almost with desperation. She didn't know if she felt better now that she saw him, or worse because of the state he was in.
"I don't know. They haven't been able to check," Riley told him. "I kept telling them I had to see you first. I didn't know how you were." The unspoken bit was that she didn't know if he'd even been alive once they made it to the hospital. "But I'm sure everything's fine."
She left out that they needed to find out how the baby was, because she was a little terrified to know. She put her arms around Roland, not caring about the blood. "I was so worried about you... and I'm so angry with you. I love you."

Roland smiled softly and hugged her back with his one good arm. The other still hung at his side, his elbow dangling at a precarious angle. "I knew that's what you'd be doing. And I've been doing the same thing. But I'm fine. Or I will be, anyway. You should get back to your room now, and let the doctor check on the baby. And I need to let the doc here treat me before I pass out. But I promise I'll see you later, when he's done, OK?"
He kissed her once more, then released her. "I love you."

Riley didn't want to leave him, but she knew she had to. There was so much blood. It was freaking her out, to be honest, but she didn't let on.
And she was still cramping. They both needed help that they couldn't give each other, so she nodded. "Okay. I love you," she said again, finding his good hand and squeezing it. "I'll see you soon."
Before she even started to leave, she felt a hand on her back and looked up to see Chase. He gently guided her back towards Lydia, and she complied.

Lydia had stood back and watched the scene before her. It was shocking, to say the least, to see that Roland Ferrera was truly alive after all of this. But she didn't question it. It wasn't her business to know what had actually happened, only to take care of her patient. And her patient was Riley.
"All right, back this way," she said in a motherly tone. "We need to check the baby."
She led Riley back to her room and instructed her to lie down, while she got some equipment.

Finally, Riley went without fuss. She knew Roland was all right- injured, but all right. And he was in good hands now. She followed Lydia quietly as she felt the adrenaline start to wear off.
It was finally over. She could go back to just being Riley, Auror, and not on a secret mission to destroy the killers of her pretend to be dead boyfriend. She was going to sleep for days. And maybe she'd finally take time off from work.
She lay back, closing her eyes briefly, until she figured out that she might fall asleep if she did. "I'm about 8 weeks now," she told Lydia. "Or 7? Somewhere in there." Another month, and she'd start to show. "I couldn't say anything last time because you would have asked too many questions that I couldn't answer."

Meanwhile, Chase returned his attention to Roland. "Better now?" he asked, raising his eyebrows. He took out his wand, keeping Roland to his word that he would comply once he saw Riley. He did a quick, assessing scan of Roland's arm and frowned before he said a few spells to heal both gashes.
"You'll need a blood replenishing potion-" as he said it, one of the nurses nodded and left to retrieve one, "- and you've dislocated your elbow. The easiest way to fix it is just by literally popping it back into place... it's going to hurt."

Lydia sighed and shook her head. "Still, you could have lied to me about the father. I could have given you something that could have harmed the baby. The peace draught wouldn't have done it, even if you had agreed to take it, but still."
She looked over at Riley as she laid down and closed her eyes. In spite of her need to stay professional, she felt for the girl. She had clearly been through quite a lot. "Well, no matter now. I'm not even going to ask any questions now, I'm just going to concentrate on the baby right now. Did you say you were having some cramping?"
As she spoke, she waved her wand over Riley's abdomen.

Roland looked up at Chase, a slight smile on his face. "Yes, much better. I'm sorry, I just... I had to see her."
If the guy had a girlfriend, which it seemed pretty clear that he did, he had to understand what Roland had been going through. Just seeing her face had eased his mind considerably.
At the mention of the dislocated elbow, Roland nodded almost dismissively. "Yeah, I know. I've done it a few times before. I can handle it. But give me the potion first, OK? I'm feeling pretty weak, and the pain might actually knock me out if I don't take the replenishing potion first."

Riley sighed. She'd thought about lying about the father, but that wouldn't have been possible. Anyone who knew her knew she wouldn't have had a one night stand, and she couldn't do that to Geoffrey. And anyway, it didn't matter now.
She nodded. "Yeah, a little. It just feels like a bad day on my period. That's not bad, is it? The baby's okay?"

Chase rolled his eyes. "I should have guessed you were one of those types," he muttered. He hated patients that wanted to treat themselves. He was the doctor afterall, wasn't he?
"Relax. I'm going to give you a couple of potions first, and then I'll pop the elbow back in place. You're under my care here, so let me do the work, all right? I'm sure your girlfriend wouldn't like it if I allowed you to get injured further. She looks like she can be a force to be reckoned with when she needs to be."
The nurse returned, three bottles in hand. Chase took them from her. "Blood replenishing, a numbing potion, and a healing potion just in case. It can't hurt at this point."

Roland sighed and nodded. "All right, all right," he said, holding up his good hand. "I'm sorry, I've never been a very good patient. I'm kind of a control freak, but I'll let you do what you have to do."
He smiled in spite of himself when Chase mentioned that Riley looked like a force to be reckoned with. It was true, she was. She had to be tough to go through what he had been putting her through all this time. He just hoped that, once the dust settled, she'd be OK.
"Do I get to take them myself, or do you want to help me?" he asked, raising his eyebrow at the healer.

Chase raised an eyebrow. "And I wonder how she puts up with you," he added. Roland was a cheeky son of a banshee, but at least he was in good spirits, considering what he'd been through. "You can take them yourself," he confirmed, rolling his eyes yet again. "I can't say that I won't be happy when we release you. Speaking of, I think you'll be fine. I'd like to keep you overnight, but then, assuming nothing surprising happens, we'll let you go in the morning."
He waited patiently for Roland to take the potions, and then he put a hand on Roland's arm. "Ready?"

"I don't know why she puts up with me, either," Roland replied with a crooked grin. "I'm just glad she does."
He was quiet as he took each of the potions in turn, wincing at the taste. Really, couldn't they find a way to make these things taste better? Maybe something cherry flavored or something.
When he was done with the potions, he braced himself against the back of the bed with his good arm, then nodded. "Yeah, OK," he said, gritting his teeth in anticipation of the pain. "Go ahead."

Chase wasn't going to lie about how much this would hurt, and he took a few moments, waiting for the numbing potion to kick in. It wouldn't make the pain disappear entirely since it was a general potion, but it would help him a bit.
He put one hand behind Roland's elbow, the other taking hold of his arm. He nodded at his nurses, who all stepped back.
"All right. On the three. One... two-"
He popped it back on two (another trick he learned... you never actually waited until 3). Even still, he anticipated a scream or something from Roland. His eyes met Roland's. "How are you doing?"

Even with the numbing potion, the pain was pretty powerful. Roland had experienced it before, only with his shoulder, so he knew exactly what to expect. And even though Roland thought of himself as a tough guy, he was unable to hold back a loud grunt of pain when his elbow was popped back into place.
But he quickly recovered and looked up at Chase, nodding. "I'll live," he replied, although his breathing was somewhat heavy for a moment. "Am I done?"

Ted shook his head. "I'm not keeping you from her, Roland. You're injured. Let them treat you, and let them treat Riley, and then you can see her." He felt back for the guy, but what was he supposed to do? A nurse looked at him and asked him to leave just as the mediwizard came in. "I'll check on her, okay Roland?" as he said this, he backed out of the room. Things had to be taken care of. When he found Hayden again, he went up to him. "You should go tell Cara and Mathieu. They should know Roland's alive," he said slowly. "I... I'll send a message to Angelique." When Hayden was gone, Ted immediately went outside and sent a patronus to Angelique. He gave her no details other than to tell her to meet him in the waiting room of the hospital. Angelique was having a strange week, but she had no idea that it was about to get much stranger. It was after hours at the Ministry, but it seemed like she never went home anymore. When the patronus came, she was with Sean and Dan of the MLE, talking about her missing auror, Riley Neves. So far, there was absolutely no information to be found about her. It was as if she had literally fallen off the face of the earth. When the Patronus told her to meet Ted at the waiting room of the hospital, Angelique let out a breath. Something told her that she was not going to like this. "All right, guys," she said to Sean and Dan. "Just keep looking and let me know the instant you hear anything at all. Thanks again." She took her leave of them and walked briskly down the hallway until she reached the apparation area. She apparated to St. Mungo's and made her way over to the waiting room, where Ted was waiting for her. "Hey, Ted," she said. She almost dreaded the answer as she asked him, "What's going on?"

Chase raised an eyebrow. "If I say yes, are you going to tear through the hospital to get back to your girl?" he asked. Looking at Roland, it looked like that guess wasn't a thought that Roland would dismiss. Although, if he didn't get in Lydia's way, and she said it was all right, he couldn't think of a good reason to say no. But then, Chase had a soft spot for things like this.
One of the nurses came forward and handed him a hospital issued shirt since they cut his to shreds, and spell was said that cleaned the blood from practically everything.
