Ted stopped pacing when he saw Angelique. The reception witch had shown him to a bathroom where he could clean up, which was a good idea. Seeing someone in the waiting room covered in blood wasn't reassuring to anyone. As of yet, he still hadn't sent word to Andromeda.
He took a deep breath. "I've got a lot of news. I can give you all the details later, but we found Riley. She's being looked at by a doctor. She was hit with a Cruciatus, and she's pregnant... And we found Roland, too. Alive. He's also being looked at." The rest was just details about fighting Blake and Riley coming into the Ministry, and he was sure she would ask, but he wanted to get the two bombshells out in the open."

Roland grinned. He was already feeling much better. The blood replenishing potion was working its magic, giving him a surge of warmth and energy, dulled only slightly by the effects of the numbing potion.
"Probably," he said. Of course he wanted to run straight to Riley and hold her hand while the doctor checked to see that the baby was OK. But he also didn't want to distract her or the doctor. And by now, Ted would have found Angelique and Hayden would have found his parents. They were probably already on the way.
"Although, I expect any minute that I'll be swarmed with people when they find out I'm alive. Look.... Thanks for not asking any questions. This is... well, it's complicated."

Chase just shrugged. "It's not my job to ask questions. It's my job to keep you alive and healthy... and I imagine there are quite a few people who will be happy to know that you are alive. And I don't need the details."
He thought for a moment, his mind still lingering on Maia. Roland had been smart to ask him about his girlfriend. "Listen... I'd have to check with Dr. Kenyon first, but I might be able to hold off that flood of people for you. Unless you'd rather face it all head on... and you seem like that kind of guy to me. But if you need anything at all, have one of the nurses page me, all right? I'll keep on eye on Riley as well, if you decide to wait, and let you know as soon as I know anything."

Of all the things Angelique might have expected him to say, the words "Roland" and "alive" were probably the last two words she could have expected. Compared to that, Riley being pregnant was barely more than a ripple.
"Wait a minute. Roland is alive?" she said, trying to process this information. "What the hell.... where has he been all this time? What happened? Tell me everything you know."
She sank down into one of the chairs, rubbing her head. Less than a week ago, she was speaking at his funeral. And now he was alive?

Ted sighed and sat down across from here. "Okay. I didn't get details from anyone, but I can tell you everything that happened. Around 5, Riley came into the office and asked me and Hayden for help. I should have come to you, but I didn't think of it. She needed help, and that was all that was really on my mind. She wouldn't tell us where she'd been, but she said she found Roland's killer and was meeting him. Hayden and I had to go. We went back to the warehouses, and Roland sort of... just showed up out of nowhere. He killed Blake Malfoy when he attacked Riley, and then told me she was pregnant, and then we all came here. Hayden's telling his parents now, but I don't think he knows much more for me. And that's it... that's all the detail I have for you."

Angelique wasn't sure what to make of what she was hearing. But she couldn't help but think that it was so like Roland to appear out of nowhere and play the hero. As much as he would have acted uncomfortable with being thought of as a hero, he definitely had something of a hero complex.
"And do you think this was planned? What did Riley know?"

Ted held up his hands. "I'm not going to make a judgment call on this," he said. "I don't know, and I didn't ask."
He sighed, running a hand through his hair as he thought about it. "She's pregnant, though. And from what I've heard the nurses saying, it doesn't sound like she's far enough along for it to have happened before his supposed death. And she didn't seem that surprised to see him." So much for not making a judgment call. "But what do I know?"

Angelique let out a long, measured breath. This was such a sordid mess, and she didn't really know what to make of it all. But her first instinct was to kill Roland.
"Well," she said, for once at a loss for words. "This is... unexpected. How badly is he injured, do you know? Because however bad it is now, it's going to be worse when I get through with him."

Hayden followed what he was told to do. The only thing he knew to do was actually go to Cara's. He didn't want to drag them to the hospital if they didn't want to go.
Arriving at Cara and Mathieu's, he sent a patronous, which happened to be a wolf, to Mathieu to meet him at the house because he had something to tell them. It was best if both of them were sitting down. He would go to his own parents after this but right now Cara and Mathieu deserved to know first.
He knocked on the door, awaiting his aunt to come to the door.

Ted almost laughed, were the situation not so sordid. Roland was, rightly, in a ton of trouble. There was no explanation that was going to excuse this, but that wasn't any concern of his.
"Not badly. He was injured, and there was... it looked worse than it was. I think. I don't really know. He kept telling me that he didn't even need to see a doctor, but you know how he is." In fact, he sort of felt for the doctor who was tending to Roland. Merlin knew that wouldn't be an easy patient.

Angelique nodded. "Yes, I do. I'm sure he's making things difficult for his poor doctor." In spite of herself, she grinned. "What a bastard... I imagine having to make his triumphant return from a hospital bed is a big blow to his ego. Good."
She was angry, but there was still a part of her that was glad to have him back. Even if his flagrant disregard for the rules was enough to give her an ulcer.
"So, what? Do you think I can go back and see him yet, or do I have to wait for clearance?"

Roland only hesitated for a minute. Yes, he wanted to see his family and talk to Angelique. But Riley was carrying his child, and she might have been seriously hurt. He wanted to be with her. "I want to see her," he said, giving Chase a look. "For a few minutes, anyway. I think it might have scared her to see all that blood earlier. It'll do her good to see me all cleaned up and walking around."

It was getting late when the knock arrived at the door, and Cara was alone in her home. She should have been with her husband, but no.
Lina had stopped by a few times, and as disapproving as she was of the girl, she couldn't deny that she appreciated the visits. She was just so lonely now.
She went to the door, opening it, and her eyebrows went up to see Hayden. "Hayden, what are doing here?" she asked, but opened the door wider. "Come on in."

Chase nodded. "Of course. I thought you'd want to see her. Afterall, if it was my girlfriend..." he trailed off, giving Roland a look. Then, he made a motion with his head.
"Dr. Kenyon is probably going to kill me for interfering with her patient so much," he murmured, but gestured to Roland that he should walk with him. He wasn't too worried about Roland. His injuries had been painful, but minor.
Taking him down the hall, he knocked on Riley's door before he gently pushed it open. "Lydia," he said softly, catching her attention, and not quiet letting Roland in yet. "If we both swear he won't get in your way..." he trailed off. She would know what he was asking.

Ted shrugged again. "I don't know." He gave her his boyish grin. "They're not telling me anything."
He actually laughed, though, as he remembered the interaction he had with Roland earlier. "You know, when I told him I was bringing him here, he fought me on it. Said it wasn't how he wanted to come back. I told him to shove it."
It was still a vaguely amusing image, Roland bleeding all over the place and still worried about his heroic return. Just like him.

Lydia had just finished her scan of Riley's abdomen when Chase and Roland entered the room. She glanced back at them, prepared to yell at them both for the disturbance. But they both looked sort of pitiful, and since Roland was the father, he probably ought to be here for this.
"Oh, OK," she said, sighing slightly. "Just stand back there for now."
She shook her head and turned back to Riley. "I think the baby is OK, although the heartbeat is a little sluggish for my taste. Also.... the cramping you're having? They're mild contractions. I think the Cruciatus curse is causing some involuntary muscle spasms, and since you're already sensitive there, they're being focused on the uterine wall. I don't think you're in danger yet, but I'd like to give you a potion that will stop the spasms and relax you. And you need to promise me that you'll stay in bed and relax until I give you the all clear. Got it?"

Riley relaxed visibly when Chase let Roland in, telling him to stand back. "I'll be around if you need me," he said to both Roland and Lydia, and he gave Riley a little smile.
Riley, in turn, smiled at Roland. "You look better," she said, before Lydia started in on her. He looked better without so much blood covering him, and there was color in his face again. He was Roland, in all his glory.
All of what Lydia said sounded terrifying, and she was only two months pregnant or so... contractions couldn't be happening. "But the baby's okay?" she asked, wanting repeated confirmation. That was all that mattered. "I'll relax," she added. "Just tell me the baby's okay."

Roland smiled back at her. Merlin, every time she smiled at him, his heart still beat a little faster. And even now, when he was terrified for her and their baby, he couldn't help but be affected by her smile. If she was smiling, things couldn't be that bad, could they?
"I feel better," he replied simply, then listened as Dr. Kenyon spoke about the baby. He felt a surge of panic when she mentioned the contractions, and he had to grip the door handle with his good arm for support.

Lydia hesitated only slightly. In truth, it was a little soon to tell if the baby was going to be OK. She thought it would, but she didn't want to commit just yet.
"I think so," she said. "I'll know better once the contractions have stopped and both you and the baby have had a little time to rest. I'd like you to take this potion, and I need you to drink all of it. Then I'll leave you alone for a while and check you in an hour or so."

Riley nodded. "All right. I'll drink it." She almost laughed. "I won't refuse anymore potions. Whatever you want me to do, I'll take it. I'm done fighting." The look she gave Lydia just clearly said that she had no fight left in her.
But the news that Lydia would have a better idea when the contractions stopped... that terrified her, because that meant that she didn't know now. Her baby could be hurt, and it would have been her fault. How was she supposed to handle that news? That, and the fact the its heartbeat was too slow... she could feel the panic bubbling up in her, and she bit her lip. Lydia said the potion would relax her, so she didn't mention this. But she avoided Roland's gaze.
